  1. $399 (USD) from Newegg, free shipping (in the U.S.) and no sales tax.

    http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834230018

Then add $57. shipping from the US and what would the customs/import tax cost???

I posted the price/link more for reference than anything else. But for those of us who go back often, and hand-carry goodies back, it is also an option. I return June 29 - July 5 and am thinking about a bringing a tablet back. I like Newegg as I can avoid the 6.25% sales tax in my home state.

Of course that's the best way to do it as the US has the best prices... If I was to go home I would do the same

  2. I only know what it said in the press release as translated by Google, sorry. Maybe call and ask them if you're considering getting one :)

Personally I would love to have one, but I still think it is too expensive. Consider that Apple products have always sold at a huge premium, yet you can buy a Ipad 2 starting around 15k (Ipad 1 starting around 12k). Consider also that you can buy a netbook at around 9,000 baht, which contains considerably more parts and are considerably more complicated to produce. In my personal opinion tablets need to get down under the 10k mark before they will really take off.

    Found this online

Eee Pad Transformer is scheduled for July 2 is in Thai!

I'm waiting for my Eee Pad Transformer is well prepared to head it. Facebook Asus Thailand since the last report came out that shows progress. Will be released on July 2, the price given here. Only the tablet only 14,900 Baht (excluding Vat) Eee Pad + Keyboard Docking 17,900 baht (not the solder Vat), which details a lighthearted, even below it.

  3. I know what you mean, and It will be interesting to see what happens if you get a phone call while in Pad mode. But it does mean that you only need one voice/data plan, and the Pad acts as a secondary battery.

I have two identical SIM cards, and despite what the telco told me, I still miss calls because they go to the wrong device.

    :)

You can answer using the Pad

I think the Transformer is the biggest bang for the buck... The issue I have with Apple's IPad is Apple only lets you install Apps that they approve. Don't get me wrong, I have a Macbook Pro and an IPhone and love both. But when it comes to Tablets, The EEE Pad has it all over the IPad.. I intend to get the EEE Pad.

  5. Yup, courtesy of Google translate (sic):

Are these phone numbers for Asus?

  6. What the US is doing is double taxing. They charge the anti-dumping duties (which can be as high as 30%) against all imports of a particular product from Thailand (not just against the confirmed dumpers, but against all importers from Thailand of the same dumped product). Then they demand a second deposit of the tax against future imports. So in effect, they apply the taxes twice--once as an import duty, and the second as a deposit against future import duties.

Thailand may charge high duties--but they do not charge them twice!

Just another example of US protectionism that goes unreported in the public media.

They are not charging the tax twice.. AS you said, "Then they demand a second deposit of the tax against future imports". "DEPOSIT" is the key word.

  7. FYI, Eee pad transformer is available in Malaysia just few days ago.

My mate is planning to get one soon.

    Price is

    RM1499 (15,000 baht) without dock

    RM1799 (18,000 baht) with dock.

Thanks for the info.. I ordered one from the States... B13,500 no dock but includes shipping

I'm quite hot on this little thing too

If you don't mind letting us know when it arrives, I'd be very interested in hearing how long it took to deliver and how much, if any, duties you had to pay for it.

    Hi Phil

I am ordering the 32 Gig (B15,000) model from B&H Photo in New York. They quote 3 to 5 working days delivery via UPS.. I don't think there will be any duty as they mark the package as a gift... but I will let you know

  9. To my knowledge, no it isn't

A friend of mine just bought one in the UK and when he got back to Thailand, it wouldn't charge. He took it to the Asus authorized service center and they had never seen one before. Turns out the USB cable is defective and they have to order one from Europe.

To my knowledge they are also sold out in the US and UK. My friend had to order one online.

Thanks so much for your reply.. I did check online (USA) and Amazon, Tiger Direct and B&H Photo all have them. B&H has the best price.. $399. for 16 Gig and $499 for the 32Gig.. Amazon and Tiger are $50 to $250 more...

  10. Also, my first 30 days are Visa exempt, as I'm from NZ. After 28 days I will go to Laos and get a tourist visa, 6 months double entry. Does the 6 months take effect from the date the visa is issued, or from the date I first arrived in Thailand?

I believe there are no 6 months entering your calculations.

    1. You apply for a double-entry tourist visa at the Thai consulate in Vientiane and receive it the following day. The visa's issue date will probably be the same as the date of application and it will be valid for two journeys to Thailand within the validity period, which the Vientiane consulate usually makes 90 days.

    2. On each of the two arrivals, you receive permission to stay for 60 days. Each of these can be extended at the immigration office by 30 days.

Why not make it easy... you are from NZ and eligible foe an APEC Card. This allows you to come and go as you please.. You can stay a maximum of 90 days and then do a boarder run... check it out

  11. If one has a iphone4 with ais 3g always on internet, is there any need for the 3g version of the ipad?? You could just tether or local hotspot all the time, no? As well as not having to buy and maitain a separate sim number/account... or has AIS got some better 'always on' deals now??

You are correct... There is no reason to buy the 3G model if you will enable BluetoothTethering . But you will drain your IPhone battery faster. The only advantage to the 3G model is when you use it independent of the IPhone as 3G is faster.

  12. I saw iPad2's for sale at Pantip today ... the fully loaded 64GB, wifi + 3G was going for 36,000 Baht.

    No I didn't buy one.

I just bought this model of the iPad2 (64GB, WiFi and 3G) in Singapore and paid S$ 1'380.00 (THB 32'000)

It works fine here in BKK with the 3G SIM from True, no problem.

    1380 = 33,709B

  13. Tethering over iPhone works well, and the 3G plans for the iPad aren't all that great. True has a companion plan where you pay less if you already have an iPhone plan but it's still pretty expensive. Best option is probably prepaid. I'd recommend true as they actually have 3G, Ais 3G is rare and doesn't work with the iPad.

The only other advantage of the 3G iPad is that it has a real GPS chip built in. The wifi doesn't...

Pre-paid is not a good option as the iPhone wifi is always connected unless you turn wifi off which defeats the purpose.

If you pre-pay 500B you will need a refill in 2 days... I am talking from experience... Your best option is a plan from

DTAC or AIS.. 550B per month gives you unlimited wife plus a good amount of free minutes and SMS
