I prefer a swap but if none is forthcoming in a few more I might resort to the classifieds.
thanks for your interest.

I have a 1DMk2N sitting unused in my dry cabinet. I use 2 other dslrs and think it is time for it to go to someone
who can make good use of it. I am looking for a used SX50HS in reasonable condition and if anyone would like
to trade please respond here or PM me.
Couple of pics taken by this camera: no PP applied just resized.
EXIF included in both pics.
I am just an amateur so in skillful hands it would produce better pics.

Another kingfisher that has turned up here recently.
They have a raucous call and like to call on the wing, can hear them coming more often than see them.
The ones I have seen have been around paddy surrounded with mature trees.
Stork Billed Kingfisher.
Good catch Robby. I ticked this one recently when out fishing but still no photos yet.

Anyone got any ideas what sort of butterfly this is?
Looks like a Common Birdwing from memory when I used to collect butterflies as a kid.

Come to Cambodia and visit my local patch; up to 50 Pied Kingfishers on certain days (and Black-necked Stork, both Adjutants, Milky and Painted Stork, and much, much more).
Sure is tempting Hanno but just the thought of going through Cambo's immigration is a big turn off. But that's another story.
Any montane birding near you?

This is one I really want to see but so far no luck.
See them most days down by the river here, not always lucky enough to be able to get close enough to get a photo of one hovering.
Had a look through and found one of this one perched in a small branch.
Not usually easy to get close to them as they have very sharp eyesight and are not keen on people.
These pics make me drool. I've been wanting to capture the Pied KF since I set foot here. Been looking for it at Bueng Boraphet without success as well as Surin. A fellow TV member shared a location over in Surin recently but I still failed to sight one. TFS!

Before I moved here (Isaan) I used to swim 3 or 4 times a week at a pool within a condo I rented.
Where I am now, there is no public nor accessible private lap pool within 100km radius. The closest would be
Korat city "The Mall" shopping arcade but that entails a round trip in excess of 200km.
To get to the point, is it safe to swim in the local reservoir which is quite large. Far as I know there is
no raw sewage draining into this reservoir but local folks keep buffaloes and cows on the far side and
I have seen buffaloes wallowing in the shallows and crapping in it.

Looking for breakfast.
Pied kingfisher
Never see them anywhere else than the river.
This is one I really want to see but so far no luck.

You mean to say the 1st of the 3 pics of my mistaken ID of small niltava?
In any case, I am glad it is still a tick for me.
I have C.Robson's guide and quite obvious it didn't help me-not the first nor the last time though.
Did I get the very first pic ID correct? (large niltava). Thanks Goshawk.
I know this isn't really the right sub-forum for me to upload these images specifically asking for ID help.
So mod/s please let me know if it is OK to continue.
Thanks

What do you think?
yes.. two-barred looks favourite, like a Yellow-browed but with a longer bill... your pics clearly show that element.
With this phyllosc type warblers I wonder how you guys pick the differences especially in the field.
I have a tough enough time trying to ID them with captured images on a monitor. I usually toss them into the
too hard basket.
Anyway, here is another tough one for me...I have a large niltava (f) taken from Malaysia.(1st pic)
For comparison-a few shots of a yet another female which I hope is a small niltava from Doi Angkang so I can earn a tick.

Ok then, here are 3 pics; 1st looks like some cuckoo that is all I know. Probably juvenile too.
This was taken at the RNP Sydney along Lady Carrington Drive (where you can't drive)
2nd and 3rd should be easy as they were taken from a suburban backyard so it's a garden bird.
It was observed feasting on a palm like tree that has this red cherry like fruit.
Ta!

You guys really know your birds! Good work.
I got a tick out of it too.
My apologies for posting a foreign specie.
I have 2 more from the same folder which I can't ID but I guess
I shouldn't post them here.

Hanno, could it be a winter migrant in the southern hemisphere?
I recall now this was taken at a local park in SW Sydney.

Sorry folks....it's been sitting inside my hard disk for so long I've totally forgotten about it but I've just looked at the exif although there is no geotag.
Going by the date taken it was while I was in Oz in Jan 2011.

Thanks Anguid. I'll look out for this one.

Thanks Anguid your shots are awesome.
Did you sit the camera on the ground for that one at post #587? Great DoF!
These little guys have no fear. I can lightly touch them before they take flight.
Gotta go get me a butterfly book for Thailand now. Any you recommend?
Over the last 2 months or so, there were thousands of butterflies of all kinds around my fishing spots but seem to be tapering off now.

A pretty visitor looking for sunflower seeds
This is a strange one. Anyone know its ID?

Thanks Rob. Black kite then. Can't remember where I took those pics. Probably somewhere near my
village in Isaan. I was looking through my archives and rediscovered these.
I have heard and read about Thale Noi but yet to visit. It's a very long drive from Isaan.
I think the migratory season is just about to begin too.
A couple more from my hard disk (Khao Yai):

Thanks for sharing this vid. LH is one of the better airlines.
Just wondering why at 9:25 number 1 engine reverser isn't deployed.
Hi,
No reverse on either outboard engine on the A380 aircraft.
Ah...learn something new. Strange though for the largest civil transport plane that they have opted for no outboard reversers.
But I am sure the designers would have done their homework and decided so. Thanks.

No Jimmy I think yours is a Brahminy Kite. And I haven't a clue what mine is. We'll wait for some bird experts.

Any sightings of Oriental dwarf and Ruddy kingfisher in your patch?
