I try to avoid generalising but that is perfectly true. Evidence from several friends whose wives set up/were set up in businesses and thought that any cash in their pockets was profit.
But it is 100% profit that's the point they never paid for the stock in the first place just rinse and repeat every time good ole hubby will pay.

That project was supposed to be finished this month. It never eventuated, as most of us suspected.
If he was serious about eventually doing something, I am sure he would be casting an eye over certain complexes where most have / will go broke, or as I mentioned, Soi 6.
Credibility ground zero.

Historical sales and values will mean little here in the future. They meant very little even before the virus, so they will be near useless now, and into the future.
Someone posts something positive and your there right away snapping at the heels to try and put it down on just about anything to do with Pattaya. It's not normal, everyone has the right to their point of view but yours is just way way over the top with negativity. If you have so much bad feelings about the place and feel there is no future for the city or anyone in it why not go somewhere else? It's depressing enough with what is going on without you bleating on. Give it a rest aye.

It appears some of our members are suffering from cabin fever whilst watching re-runs of Octopusy and the Spy Who Loved Me. ????

Sounds like a BKK school teacher that has spent years in an unironed, ill-fitting out of date Indian made suit being jealous with no actual money to spend themselves. What have you saved enough to get yourself a hugely discounted Wendy House? lmao

No it's not boring. Not unless watching paint dry gets you exhilarated.

If I made the wrong choice and settled outside of Pattaya and had no hope of cashing up and and having a second chance I'd be on here slagging it off too.

Pattaya is the best place in Thailand to live and that's a fact unless you're a hermit type character in the sticks or an odd ball teacher in Bangkok with no other choice.

Enjoy Pattaya while it is still open for business.
Pattaya has survived an average of 1 military coup every 7 years.
The Tom Yum Goong crisis.
2003 SARS epidemic.
Relentless bad press worldwide (most of it bs)
Rampant corruption from the top all the way down.
Countless condo developments over the years that have taken deposits and never finished. And you think a flu like virus is going to really end it? lol

If things ever get me down I shall think of Nigel and his wonderful laugh and how he beat the pompous, arrogant yet extraordinarily dim witted remainers and how they will never get over it. That will hands down be better than any medicine a doctor could prescribe me. Cheers Nigel I will be having a few beers for you tomorrow!

This video is such <deleted>. If you take out the "girl" side of the argument (which most retirees wont factor in), and if you don't give a t*ss about whether an official smiles at you all the time or you have to comply with the law to get a visa, he is down to:
1. Visa rules may change - yep, the world over....
2. There is a focus on the growing tourist markets in preference to others. Yep, the world over...
3. Thais are racists, yep the same in Europe and almost everywhere actually. We will always be a foreigner but nowadays who isn't? He actually says "foreigners will never be Thai". Wow, smart guy!!
4. Farang pricing. Never been a problem for me. You live here and most likely pay no income tax. Factor that into your cost of living or amount paid to go places. So completely blinkered it is sad!!
6. Tourist scams - obviously he has not been to many places because there are many places worse than Thailand at this - try Egypt for example.
7. Corrupt police. Yup - so that covers 50% of the world!
8. Its all about the money in Thailand - no "its all about the money everywhere in the world" - they just make it more obvious! - I think this is largely a "girlie" thing so excluded really.
9. Saving Face - well that is all of Asia and most of the rest of the world but they just don't call it that
10. Lack of culture - loads of culture but not everyone wants to spend their retirement chasing Museums or Galleries. Anyway, bullsh*t as there are loads - just look for them.
11. Lack of compassion - obviously never been to hospital or really been close to a Thai girl.
12. "This is Thailand" - again, another earth shattering observation from our robotic commentator.
13. Lower class citizen - never ever experienced this
14. Instability - OK show me where there is stability right now.
I don't know why I spent so much time analysing this as it is such a poor video in so many ways. But I did, and here it is....

Excellent post Rod.

Tens of millions don't make a satang off of you tourists but you seem to expect them to put on a show for you.
Agree.
Too many here have this deluded vision that the Thais should stop what they are doing and wai or wave with a great big smile to the foreigner as they drive/walk by lol
Many foreigners I've meet here look so miserable and negative about everything so why should they bother trying to make you feel better about yourself? they don't owe us anything!

Great advice, simply had your winning ticket over to Somchai crack open a bottle of bubbly and wait for him to come back with a wheelbarrow full of money.

The West can also give you an opportunity to get by on your merits rather than waiting for an inheritance of a rai of swampland and a few pigs
If ones life has amounted to just 1 rai of marshland and some pigs one can see why the west would seem like a better option when one has failed miserably here. A hearty sitting of Jeremy Kyle week mornings whilst the kids are at the local school of excellence in chav culture and general juvenile delinquency, one could sit back on a DFS sofa and wonder "where it all went wrong".
-
A positive yet gently spoken luk khrueng child with manners and respect for authority and their elders is what the west can not offer.
If your an imbecile without the necessary brains to give your kids a rosy future here when they leave school/uni then yes they will be earning 15k a month. Whereas business minded people here who for example own land and commercial property will pass all or part of that on to their kids and teach them how to make money with it.A good standard of schooling with a mixture of good business sense and the kid(s) will have a very happy and rosy future here indeed.
-
I can only assume if one takes their children to be bought up in the the UK one has limited resources and has "no other choice".

I do admit that salad bars at gourmet market and S Pyre chicken (which is supposed to be organic) are about 80% cheaper than in Canada.
That's it then, sold! You sure made my mind up about living here permanently or not, the salad bars at Gourmet Market are cheaper than Canada!
Beam me the f** up Scotty!
