  1. Ok for all you math gurus here is a pic of the actual lot...not sure if you can calculate the angles you guys are talking about from this or not....but this is all the info I have....the measurements are all shown in feet as the lot is in the USA. I'm ok with the previous 758 sm but if anyone wants to keep calculating go for it.

    Pomchop,

758 sqm is area if it's cyclic quadrilateral shape. If it's not, you need to know at least one of the diagonal length or angel of any one of the corners. Looking at your picture it may not be cyclic quadrilateral meaning all four vertices must lie in a circle. Best way to be sure is measure the distance of any two points.

  2. If you google "calculate area of irregular polygon", it quickly becomes clear that there is no simple way to do that without getting into serious maths. If you don't have access to an app like Acad, then what I would do is get a simple drawing app (like MSPaint that is standard with windows, or even a pencil and paper with grid lines on it) and decide on units for each square, Say a big square = 10ft, and a small square =1ft, you can get an approximate answer.

If you know how to do vertices, then you can do it online as shown here http://www.wikihow.com/Calculate-the-Area-of-a-Polygon

All you need is calculator with square root feature and use Brahmaguta's formula as stated in my reply to Pomchop.

  3. Simple method is using Brahmaguta's formula.

Area is equal to square root of (s-a)(s-B)(s-c)(s-d)

a,b,c,d are the length of the four size and where:

    s = (a+b+c+d)/2

Hence you get square feet of 8,159 sqt. convert it to meter, it is 758 sqm minus the decimals.

  4. You see mikekim1219 ... it all depends what you identify as a 'Townhouse'?

Are you suggesting a 2 story building with common walls on both sides?

Is there common ownership of the large parcel that all the properties are built on and the Structure simply owns a lot on the 'Body Corporate'?

... or the English Victorian model where it is the same as above but the building owns the land that it is built on.

Same but different ... and that difference is important.

    .

It is a building with common walls on both side with two stories. Not sure about common ownership of the properties. What is the "Body Corporate"?

I just saw the building yesterday with introduction from a foreigner friends. He claims foreigner can buy but didn't provide anymore details..

  5. The amity treaty is cignored by eveyone.

Originally Americans had all the priveleges of Thais and vice versa - in the 60's Americans could by land here. The US kept it's part of the bargain, but Thailand no longer gives Americans anything over any other country.

Have you tried to open business under Treaty of Amity? The Treaty stipulates that no land owning.

  6. You can go to old airport road. There is 9 hole course. You can also unwind at the World Class Hamburger (WCH) at the course. There are 4 main course in Chiang Rai, Mae Kok, Happy City, Santiburi and Waterford. Santiburi is the best maintained and located 10 km from town. Happy City newly opened course invested by Koreans. It's about 15km to Happy city. Mae Kok is army course located near downtown and least maintained course but have interesting 18 holes. Waterford is bit out the way, 45km from town.

For transportation the course, you can call the taxi. The rate is very cheap. Santiburi, about 300B, Happy City 500B round trip.

There is saturday morning friendly outing at old airport. You can hang around at the WCH and meet some local farlang golfer. The owner is also golf instructor from California. He can guide you about the golf

  8. Yes, you can get marreid in Thailand. Both of you will need a letter from your embassy confirming you are free to marry. Check with your respective embassies to see what is required to issue such a letter. Most embassies have that informtion on their website.

Once you both have that letter, you have them translated into Thai and then legalised at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. When that is done you can go together to any amphur in Thailand and get married.

With that done, she can apply as your dependant for a visa and extension of stay in Thailand. Not sure if she can convert her visa in Thailand to a non-O visa.

You can also get married in China. Don't know the procedure for that.

Thanks for the info. Perhaps marrying in China is easier since I am familiar with the process. Once married, does she need to apply for non-0 in China or can it be done here in Thailand after arriving with tourist visa?

  9. I have posted this question but would like further info.

I am bringing my Chinese g/f in two weeks. She has acquired 30 day tourist visa from Thai Embassy in China. After 30 days, we need to figure out way to extend her stay as long as possible.

I am staying on retirement extension and one option is to marry her in China and apply for visa. What is the process? Can we get married here and apply for spouse visa in Thailand?

    Thanks in advance

  10. "I'm looking at Lua Prabang because the flight's only an hour from Chiang Mai"

It's only 1 hour from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani by plane, then go to the bus station which is right next to Central in the city centre and get the bus to Nong Khay,it's 40 baht and one hour,I just got back today!

Nong Khay is the border with Laos, get a bus to Vientiane from there (avoid tuk-tuks and minibus scammers) for another 40 baht and about half an hour!

Coming back you can actually get a bus from the bus station in Vientiane to Udon Thani for 22,000 Lao Kip,less than three US dollars.Or to Nong Khay for 15,000 Lao Kip,less than two US dollars!

Does this mean no visa runs for Chinese national?

If so, 30 day extension which allows her to stay two month then apply for another 30 tourist visa in Vientiane and repeat all over again? If all else fails, I may have to go this route

  11. As far as I know Chinese nationals are not entitled to Visa Exempt Entry.

They are entitle to a Visa on Arrival.

This gives a stay of 15 days and costs 1,000 Baht.

    1. Suvarnabhumi Airport

    2. Don Muang International Airport , Bangkok

    3. Chiangmai International Airport , Chiangmai

Chinese are allowed 15 day visa exempt entry. However she is arriving one month tourist visa obtained from China.

I would like to know if how many visa runs she can do after 30 days.

  12. Walen School breaking news!

We have signed a contract for a school so now it is official. The location is perfect. On the main rd. not far from Macro and airport. Plenty of room for parking around the school so good for all those who drive. Took us more time than expected to finalise renting the right place for a Walen school but it is done now and construction will begin shortly.

Interestingly enough we already have a lot of interest in the Chiang Rai school. Happy to see that as some were not as welcoming at the beginning.

Some pictures of the furutre Walen school. Two blocks on the right are ours.

Walen School - Chaing Rai confirmed!

    Hello,

I would like to enroll my Chinese g/f for purpose of learning Thai and ED visa. She is 31. She will arrive Dec 16th on one month tourist visa (she applied it in China). How can she apply for the school?

    Mike
