  1. YellowFeverCAD Hyundai clearly states on there Thai web site on English Hyundai Motor (Thailand) Co. Ltd. has set an unprecedented standard in the Thai automobile industry by becoming the first automobile company here to offer a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty for the Sonata

Could you show me a link?

When I go to the website I see only 3 years 100,000 when I look at the downloadable PDF specs on the Sonata it clearly again states 3 years 100,000 km and when my wife phoned a dealer here in BKK today to ask they confirmed for her on the phone that the bumper to bumper portion of the warranty is ONLY 3 years or 100,000 km so clearly somebody is not updating the troops on the ground as to what is being offered..

Which really is moot to the original point of you (or someone) claiming it was a bumper to bumper 7 years warranty and it was nice to see BMW catching up... even if your "new" info about 5 years is correct that would make the warranties the same... save the fact that according to Hyundai they do not cover wear and tear items but BMW does...

So if you can show me that link I would love to pass it on to the Hyundai dealer here so they can see what they should be telling people..

    Thanks,

  2. why don't you read the warranty it says unlimited km and 5 years for the sonata also 24 hour emergency service for 3 years 24hours a day. I would say that's better than any of the run of the mill brands.

As stated I can not find that information... this link http://www.hyundai-motor.co.th/dealer_service_service.php?id=9 which is the Thailand Hyundai website clearly says 3 years/100,000 km if you can show me where in Thailand this is being offered I would be interested to see as I have always thought the Sonata was a great little city runabout.

As to your comment about 'run of the mill" brands, the person that brought up their 7 year warranty claim (I note you have only claimed 5 years) was comparing it to BMW not sure they count as a run of the mill brand... but I digress.

  3. 5 years now on a BMW ? well there catching up slowly... Hyundai is 7 years...

Curious where you are getting this information from?

If you check the Hyundai website it clearly says 3 years or 100,000 km whatever comes first you can see that plainly here

    http://www.hyundai-motor.co.th/dealer_service_service.php?id=9

Basic Warranty: The basic warranty covers everything except items that are subject to wear and tear or replacement in the ordinary course of vehicle ownership, such as oil and air filters, wiper blades and brake pads. Tires and batteries are excluded.

OTOH BMW is now offering 5 years or 100,000 bumper to bumper excluding ONLY Tires and Batteries. They do in fact cover oil changes all parts and labor and anything subject to wear and tear.

So not trying to nit pick with you but I am curious where you saw Hyundai in Thailand offering that 7 year bumper to bumper warranty.

  4. Just for a minute I could have sworn that this was the motoring forummad.gif .

I do'nt give a flying <deleted> where up market or low market farangs like to spend the weekend.

    ph34r.gif

and stop inventing waffle about old boys and their young totty, its not clever.

I thought I was in the motoring forum as well, but where exactly in YOUR post is any reference to motoring of any kind???

FYI I did apologize in advance for being OT and it was my only OT post... prior to this one...

    So yeah back to cars

  5. Any discounts on a new 320d ? thought I read another post where someone here on Tv was offered something like 2-300 K discount on a new

Just bought a new 320d Sport this past week, I was given 200k off list and they paid the first year's insurance which my current company quoted at 45k I was happy with the deal and the car.

At what dealer did you buy it from? That's a good discount!

yeah we were very happy with the deal.

    Millennium Auto Ladprao Co., Ltd.

2222/9 Ladprao Rd., Soi Ladprao 112 Khet Wangthonglang, Bangkok 10310

  6. Pattaya weekends are for the low budget, Thai and farang

Hua Hin has been for a century and will continue to be BKK peoples weekend getaway

Sorry for being OT but couldn't agree more on the above. The wife and I have always taken the kids to the Centara Villas in Hua Hin, one weekend we got offered a great deal on the Centara Resort in Pattaya, never having been there we were assured by the hotel staff that they were in the "family oriented" part of Pattaya. While standing in line to check in we watched a very very nasty scene between a rather old and tired looking farang as his much younger tattoo covered "friend" in the micro shorts as they battled it out verbally for all to hear. We cut our three day trip to one night and will never return again. There was nothing family feeling about the place to me or my wife. I think we will stick to Hua Hin for the last minute weekend getaways and of course Sentosa in SG for the out of country weekend getaway. Just MHO

  7. And once again The Thai Visa Elite have spoken on their forum soapbox, having all the answers to thailands social problems as they are so thai in their hearts and care so much for the people of thailand. <deleted> are you so scared of by this goverment ??? You are not thai !!! None of you will ever know the problems of the thai people living in your gilded cages, living fat on your retirement money constantly coming on her spouting your shit about thaksin and how all of thailands problems are all his fault, you sound just like the people who want to keep things just as they are. As much as I hate the saying go home thailand will be much better off when you are long gone.

Oddly enough I was thinking as I was reading your rant how much better off Thailand would be if people with your narrow hate filled views would move back to where ever they came from. You know nothing about the vast majority of TV posters yet you presume to paint them all with your sloppy broad brush... yes in fact I do very much want what is best for the Thai people and I do have a very good understanding of how they live. I moved out of my gilded cage years ago and am a long way from retirement age.. so seems you missed the mark there by just a bit.

Being afraid of the gov't is quite different than being afraid FOR the people perhaps you should learn the difference.

  8. Well Gentlemen I suggest they give it a go, and let us bring Thai salaries more into line with their western counterparts, because in case you had not noticed, that is the way prices for the consumer are heading..........I see words like training, education, scattered among the solutions.......in reality let us give even the lowest paid a reasonable salary to aim for........might just be a starting point......because working for a pittance wears very thin very quickly.....

Spoken like a person that has either never owned a business or never owned one in Thailand. In case you were not aware this is NOT the West so why should salaries be raised to be more in live with Western ones? Among the few businesses my wife and I own we employ well over 100 people and I can assure you firstly that if we were forced to raise salaries across the board to the 300 b/day minimum there would be layoffs and not a small token few. It is just too much cost to absorb all at once overnight or even over the course a year it might be too much.

For your continued incorrect bleating about how the workers need to make this 300 baht per day to live like humans I think you need to check out our employee parking lot. Yes we have some skilled staff that make well beyond the 300 rate but for the most part it's unskilled labor and under 300 but above the current BKK minimum. As a whole our staff seems to live fine, they have kids and places to live and many drive motorbikes and some have cars and I seem them eating everyday just like real people.

Maybe you should learn about Thai culture and how they live and they function as a family group before you decide that they are not making enough to live based on newspaper clippings. This debate with ill informed people is simply a waste of time suddenly raising to 300 baht a day will put some smaller to mid sized factories out of business if it is enforced.

  9. Narrowing the gap is a good thing, rising inflation and unemployment isn't. A sudden nationwide increase of the minimum wage to 300 baht will create more problems than it solves and ironically, might make the gap even wider.

I am shocked at how many of the "educated" westerners that can't seem to grasp this. You can't simply put up wages and magically that money appears from newly planted money trees. It has to come from somewhere and as it comes from the bottom line of the employer that means IF they leave their staff levels the same it will increase their costs by quite a bit in BKK. So all those pimping this huge increase seem to think those business owners will just grin and bear it? Not bloody likely... hello increased unemployment...

  10. The Illuminate in here will never accept the Thai peoples decision,no matter what u say.

It is so sad that so many people like yourself have such a terrible opinion of Thai people. I guess they really could be that stupid but I prefer to not believe it.

The decision you speak of was a slight majority in the actual popular vote so it means there is a huge number of Thai's that do not approve of the winning party I wonder if their opinion suddenly does not count?

I know or accept it's possible that a large majority of people that supported PTP/Reds don't fully grasp that they will not get rich from having them in power and in many cases will be worse off. I also see some value in letting PTP hang themselves with trying to implement their policies, but that would do a lot of long term harm to the financial health of an already shaky house of cards.

I can keep the faith that once enough people of those that voted for PTP and their exiled leader see them for their true colors and come to understand that real change takes time a long time.. they will in time NOT vote for them again or for the quick fix they think is coming but in reality never can.

If step one is filing charges against ALL parties that broke election day rules that is where we start.

The tired old we won so forget how we won is such an insulting elitist POV that far too many Farang seem to put forth.

For the record my wife and her family voted for neither 1 or 10 so no axe to grind here.

It would just be nice to something that resembles actual progress happen in this country however far fetched that appears at the moment.

  11. Sorry !!! I just have had this thing about BMW onwers for a long time.

Reminds me of what I thought was a cute story. My brother's GF in Canada bought a BMW after many years of making rather snide comments about owners of such vehicles. When ask what prompted her to purchase one she said "it's a social experiment I want to see if after driving it I turn into a self important selfish prick as well" hmmmm the answer turned out to be YES hahaha

  12. Good that someone can still afford to shop at Villaaaa!

There's a myth still being passed on I see.

Villa is very reasonable compared to any other store if you are comparing apples and oranges of course.

Have shopped there almost from day one in Thailand and was thrilled when the next Pure Place branch opened.

  13. Non-residents (Foreign Tourists or Foreigners working in Thailand temporarily)
    • Passport
    • Work Permit
If you do not have a work permit, please submit a copy of your passport together with ONE ofthe following documents:
      - A letter of recommendation from a person acceptable to Bangkok Bank such as a Bangkok Bank staff member, a respected customer of Bangkok Bank, a respected university teacher, a respected company director or senior executive. This must be on the form provided by Bangkok Bank (this can be obtained from any Bangkok Bank branch which provides a foreign currency deposit account service) and it must be accompanied by a certified true copy of the identification document e.g. ID card or government official ID card of the person making the recommendation; or
      - A letter of recommendation from a reputable organization located in Thailand such as an embassy or an international organization; or

      - A letter of recommendation from your bank abroad, acceptable to Bangkok Bank, sent to Bangkok Bank via SWIFT; or
      - Your driver's license containing your photo and address

    My Thai driver's licence worked....

Which is swell expect the account it clearly labeled for NON residents.. so why would I as a non resident want or need to have Thai drivers license?

It seems odd that an account that is more restrictive NO ATM access, NO online banking etc, has a more strict opening requirement... *shrug*

  14. Documentation required to open the accounts is the same as per a Thai Baht account.

I would say the above is not correct. I tried both Bangkok Bank and SCB today at The Mall Bangkapi, both told me I would need a letter from my embassy to prove I was a citizen of that country, my Passport was not enough and if I did not want to do that I needed to have at minimum a work permit.

When I opened my Kbank accounts it was a long term visa needed and nothing else. So not quite the same as a Thai bank account.

Unless that is a fluke that two different banks today asked for the same exact set of docs.

  15. Lot of misinformation (or maybe old information from a decade ago) in this thread.

I opened a USD account at my local BKK bank a few months ago. All done and dusted inside of 30 minutes, had to wait a week for the passbook to arrive.

USD transfers into the account cost 0.25% and cash withdrawals 1%

Once again the Thai banks surpass the UK banks by a huge margin.

Thanks for all the info I am curious does the USD account operate as a normal Thai baht account in that you are able to use online banking an ATM card etc?

Just curious if I could have money wired into the BKK Bank account and then if needed do an online transfer to my local Kbank account.

    thanks for any info.
