  1. when we first come here i did a bit at hinta hinya and it was ok for the first week are so than the weather hit and it was not good so we went to Ko Taen just go the south and find the boats there we paid 4 or 6 hour 1.000 for a long boat just me and my wife and it was great

  2. i stay just out of lamai in the middle of hinta hinyi and ban hua thanon 5 min to lamai and 10 min to Nathon and even less to the beach up the road only 2 min on the bike they is a beach cross the road just needs a clear up,i have a couple of friend in mae nam and yes its nice and quiet and cheaper to stay there to, best to stay a couple of nights in a hotel and have a look around first before you jump in i would say.

  3. I just bought 2 bags of ice from the Fresh Mart at the bottom of my road.

Does this mean I have to go to the police station and pee on something or have I got it all wrong . . .?

Do they check your temperature or what . . . ?

Is this affected by relative humidity?

clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif pmsl i was in chaweng yesterday and funny enough we were in bigc saw a guy walking around and his eyes was glazed over said it all ,not sure what he was on it was he they was no one that home

  4. i have been to cambodia cheap as chip just not my kind a place.i saw a watch that i like in bangkok so the haggling started and i could get them down to a good price started at 2000baht so left and said i might go back, shopping as you do in cambodia saw the same watch (looked the same and had the same strap on to) ask the price 8 dollars i said 5 and he took it lol

  5. I have often found with Agoda that their 50 % reduced rate just comes down to the same price the Hotel website has the room for. You have to question whether the real room rate was ever what Agoda quoted. Seems more like a sales ploy to me.

as a matter of interest i checked the internet room rate on the hotels web site at the time and it was the full rate agoda qouted as full rate, so the savings are 50% in that instance. Cant say i would be to happy if i was a customer paying full price.

web rate for hotel was 1500, agoda 800 baht.

i do not use them now to just do a little search and its the same or cheaper

  6. who knowns i might get it later on but that the moment i just do not. i like samui and thailand

but you do understand how to moan about the cost of everything here to an anal degree, don't understand why an item cost can vary in different geographical locations, and at the same time you are quite happy about the fact you can make massive margins by exploiting the cheap labour and products you are buying from here to sell at a higher price in a foreign market? ermm.gif

i do not buy from samui i buy from bangkok but you do not here me moan about bangkok, and i do not make massive margins like the thais greed does if you are going to call someone read the facts that the thais charge more then we do fact.and for exploiting do you run a business here 600k to 10k a month and you call me for exploiting cheap labour pmsl god where is your head up you anal i think and i have bought from all over the world its called business.i am only saying this once more it the rest of thailand charged me 80 to 100 baht for the same thing this place would be busys 24/7 but it does not and there is no reason for it not to charge around the same price as the rest of thailand thank you good day lol

  7. One more comment / observation. You say Tesco is dearer on Samui. That is an absolute fallacy, Tesco & Makro print the same catalogue Thailand wide, they do not print a special Samui edition.

If you're referring to me, I'm sorry for the confusion. I didn't buy the razors in a Tesco here in Chiang Mai, I bought them in a pharmacy. I just normally buy them in Tesco in Lamai because I assumed they would be cheaper than a smaller retailer like a pharmacy.

Edit: Ah, maybe you're referring to doingok...

No James , was not referring to you lol.

you's guys re missing the point yes we are buy here to sell in the Uk/Spain but even here they are selling the same stuff that we are, but we sell it cheaper and they i guess they pay the same price as me but i have a bigger shipping cost.i.e bigc stall in they selling the same necklace we have from bali we paid around 30p =15baht they are selling it for 250baht = £5 we will not be selling them nowhere near that, they is a profit and there is greed so sorry rooo i am not like them here sorry that is just greed.and as living on a tight budget to me i am not plus that is not the point for me and others.i have talked to people who only come here for a couple of days cause of the prices here, old, young, family's, a like, no matter where you go on a budget are not no one likes paying over the odds when you do not have to. and i wish i had a quid for every one i have hard say i am not paying that. i understand most have wife's, businesses and have to stay here but we do not..budget are no budget people are not staying here for they full holiday cause of the price.people work out what they can live on before they decide were they are going stay/live and if they have it they love samui as many do they will come,if they just like Thailand on a hole they go else were as many have pointed out on here like the guy who went to phuket instead of here these people count and many more do to they should be coming here.put it on paper the cons and pros the list is bigger in the cons. i have got the say this though i wouldn't live in BBK to and that is cheap its just what a person is after.all we need is a nice beach a nice place to sleep do not need these other bars just a one to chill in with a cold beer or 2 so to US why pay more for the stuff we do not need?

anyway i have had a great 6 months here and travelling about ,made some great new friends Thai to but my eyes have been opened and my options widened.

who knowns i might get it later on but that the moment i just do not. i like samui and thailand

  8. Money is not a prior just a principle for me i do ok retired at 45 but i do care the p is not taking they is no reason what so ever the prices are so high and the number of people coming are down and its easy to see why,the prices the the attitude of people here and people wonder why they businesses are quiet and i have to say its such a a shame as the island has a lot to offer but i am sorry to say the price is to high to pay for much people as i have said people only come here for 2 to 3 days of they holidays cause of price of thing here i can live here very comfy myself with my wife.but why pay higher prices for the same things i can get else where, as i am here with my wife i do not need the girlie bar's what so ever,i am sorry if i have upset the hard island lovers and i can see why you love koh samui but love can be blind. i like it to just a shame we look like ATM'S to these people on the island as the island would be booming.

i didnt use that Lomprayah ferry as it was CHEAPER TO HIRE A CAR to drive up to chumpon and again Lomprayed doubled they prices since i have been here only 6 month now

as for the price of food it was a little lower in tescos lotus chupmon and surat thani and rangon as i have said just been in them in the last 2 days oh and the car rental is cheaper to in these places to..i cannot complain about to price i am paying for my place sea-view and only 8k for my one bedroom love it just outside lamai.but i can have a 3 bedroom with a nice garden for 10k just 200yards from the beach.

the best price i have found for food on the beach is NEW HUTS great food and cheap drinks to, like have said you can find it but you do have to look hard, cheap drink just stay out of the girlie bars which i have no reason to go into so i know its cheaper by 20 to 30 baht and again it all adds up

  9. ok hotel in surat thani big hotel to prices for food and drink large chang/singer 80bhat food no more then 100bhat. chumpon bar and a nice one to with pool table, large chang 55 baht large singer 78 baht you are lucky to find a small bottle for them prices on samui. food, chicken cashew nuts and rice 60 baht and not a small portion to, petrol 35baht a litre (samui 42baht) tescos lotus food pork in Chinese sauce with rice 35 baht,.tescos lotus samui 50 baht we were with a couple that has a 5 year plan to stay on koh samui and even they didn't realise the different in prices the list can go on and on.paracetamol 5 bhat a strip i get charged 10 baht here (bought 2 boxs) checked a agent on houses 10k for a 3 bedroom house looks nice had a garden and it was well kept not far from beach(no i didn't go and see it).

all i can say is go and see for yourself it was a shock to me to a real eye opener, ranong was the same but i wouldn't stay here lol and this all adds up in the end no matter how small but add it all up in a month and i bet its a lot

  10. well as a newie here on koh samui i have to say greed is the work i would use for here yes i know its a strong word but for me its true, how i have not just stay on the island for my whole 6 months i have travelled about to just back from chumpon again trip away and i have to say the prices are keeping people away from here i have talked to many on the beaches and in pubs and most are only here 2 to 3 days which is a faction of they trip and only cause of the things cost here.the fact of the matter is very thing is way over priced here even for an island even, yes its a great place but knowing you can spend more here than else were of cause people will go else where. a week on samui might get you a week and 3 days else were?not every body as money to burn.yes you can stay here on a budget but you have to work hard to do it. just back on the ferry to yesterday and there was not many people on it to only Thais 99% only about 6 westerners(including 4 of us) and i watched them get on,saying that i have been checking the BBK airways flight out of samui as i am going to bangkok again and some of the flights are fully booked but going out flight back no probs going off the island yes most flight are full.

Yes for me and the wife i have to say its a shame great place some nice people to but they have to keep seeing you face around before they stop over charging you.

i know the prices charge from place to place but on my travels koh samui is the most expensive place and that alone will stop people from coming here especially in these hard times.

i have used agoda many times while on my travels and yesi have stopped to cause i have found most of the hotels website a lot cheaper, off to bangkok again and looked on agoda and then checked the hotels website saved 300 bhat a night booking with the hotel of choice and i have done this now over and over again i would not trust them again and i did a review on the hotel saying it was cheap just to walk in and they edited my review ?

  11. I walk about 2km every day on Chaweng Beach and I sit near the jet ski rental. I can tell you that the scams have started again, not every hour like the past, but they will probably push it until there is an uproar. I see many more riding them this year and the scammers will probably try to recoup some of the revenue lost from the past few years when there were few takers. You stay here long enough and you see the scams go in cycles. This will never go away as too many people are making plenty of money at the cost of tarnishing Samui's image once more.

that remindes me bit off topic but i have seen those scamming forang time share sellers and they are quicker at kid napping people than before.

they have a car near by and then the rush off quickly straight after they have made a sale.

i wonder who is protecting these people.

If i was to go up to one and give one of the a proper slap. then who am i really messing with. who should i exepect to come after me.

suppose there is only one way to find out. maybe i shall be the bait. if i do not report back then their back up if very strong round and bullet shapped lol

i have to say spot on there we were in chaweng and i guy jumped off this bike like he was in a hurry were are you guys from England, oz,he could not talk quick enough and then took my wife bythe arm as he done this i asked him to take his hand off my wife as her face was in shock as he asked were we were stay i say we have a house here he quickly jumped on his bike as quickly as he got of off again.and redid off lol

  12. What a depressing thought. 80's pop music introduced by someone for whom english is their third language, interspersed with adverts for jet-skis and muay thai events.laugh.png

Edit. That dig at the dj wasn't aimed at you doingok, but at that TV character we used to have.

it would be long ride to get it off the ground but to what music to play just play a bit of everything as i have say they is nothing English here, and they will be throwing money that ya to adv

  13. pity i am away in 4 weeks time i used to DJ a radio station just a small one.and did it in clubs for 12 years in my time use to love and i have to say the island could do with an English one, and yes think of the money made by advertising .tenerifer has 3 radio stations and made good money to, just on advertising its not hard to do and not much out lay,as the island is only small so you power signal to cover this small place is very small.

should have a drive up to Nathon from lamai i have passed the sign many times for the samui radio station just passed Hua Thanon

now then then you pop pickers pmsl

  14. new shop in lamui on ring road towards Hua Thanon got some crazt stuff in there. worth a butchers hook.

also there is one in nathong coming from manam side

this shop is just cross the road from me it's call the marine shop just passed rockys hotel and the temple on the left hand side coming from lamai does not same busy place though and do not know what they cost.

  15. First ferry ( Seatran ) leaves at 5 AM, arrives Dongsak around 6.30 You then have to drive to the airport which is about another hour. Arrive say 7.30 - 7.45 allowing for traffic, you will be leaving it very tight.

You are better off staying the night there, hotels are very reasonable in Surat.

agree there , check this hotel , styed there many times - http://www.agoda.com...suratthani.html

i have done this same flight many time and just stay over in surat thani the night before
