As I said before, you'd think that Thailand would want to showcase its national treasures as a point of pride, not have visitors make up the financial shortfall...I think it sends the wrong message: Look at our pretty nature and culture, but look how money-grubbing we are....

i agree with you there i know someone that is from Burma and he gets the thai price is that cause he looks thai or cause i am white? (with a tan lol) he went to the pharmacy and got my tablets and saved me a bit money.though now i can get them my self at thai prices but you are spot on in what you have said if no one came here in the first then they would have no income what so ever i would guess, so they charge us more on top of this and its the tourist who bring the money to the island in the first place, and to some point i understand in every country the tourists get hit but if you live there then you are not one but try and fit in but here you well never be able to cause they well always see you as a ATM some not all of them but them that do not allow you to feel you fit in and you will always be different to them if you know what i mean.surely they most know they are losing money as well we just walk away and go else where now madness really losing a sale though sure greed.

well as you said a few weeks ago after a visit to Phuket, Samui does seem worse. i know many that have left and noticed the difference and a more farang friendly pricing stucture. Give it ago some where else next time, i am sure you will see the difference in price and attitude.

i think if we come back that's would be are plan, do not get me wrong i have made some nice thai friends here and like samui but we have been to more places than phuket, like khanom,tha sala,koh tao, and so on and heading to cambodia in a week or so,so staying in bangkok to have a look around and then going to chumphon before we head back for a couple of day,if we had just stay on samui we would of just thought this was the norm but with travelling around we know its not.the people in tha sala was so helpful and friendly and nothing seemed to be to much trouble,we got lost and a guy jumped in this car to follow him to put us on the right track and he didn't even stop so we could give them was cash he just turned around and waved lol.

Absolutely true. Together with the fact that they are often unaware that it is going on. Whilst ever the price of the meal here is lower than what it is back in their home country, they will assume they are being treated fairly, as it is cheap! And who can blame them for not arguing .... they are on holiday having a good time.

i am home its been my home since September lol i lived in Florida about 12 years ago and its state residency as been said, Spain has the same on flights and ferry's and if you have residency in spain you get half price fares, and i think it is race here as if it was residency they would just want proof of it would be asked but it isn't i am known in my local fish market now and treat one of them ish now and i have to say the service i get now to the first day is a lot better.they see westerns as have more money so we have to pay more in some cases not all.

But generally speaking we do have more money and the Thais have much less. For those that chose to live here, and are not tourists is not a differentiation Thais really care about generally. Could look at it this way, we are paying full-price and the Thais are getting discount because they can't afford to pay more. At the end of the day, if you think it is good value buy it. If not then don't. With a Western income or earned money, paying an extra 20-50 Baht is not being ripped off.

It's not necessarily about the money for me but more about the principle. At the end of the day I pay tax here and should be given the same price as locals. Simple, really.

well on my travels here in thailand i have only came a cross it here? it sad really cause we well not go back and they will lose more money in long term as we go 5 tp 6 days a week, and it was not that great but did the job,told our thai friend who told us to go there and they are not happy to.as tourist site not been to one as we think animals should be free in the roam around. they must more lose a bit money though as there is a lot of gyms about and the money is in the ones that stay here.

we got the bus from koh samui in December was only 480 to phuket town

being going to the gym now for to keep fit now for a while and was told to try a new gym as it is only 30baht so we went and as we are not thai the owner said to us its 50baht though we are staying here.i tried to explain that we have used the gym before with are thai friend and only paid 30 baht and that we would not use it again i.e losing money in the long run he just looked at me and said he didn't care.

after only being on the island 4 month this is starting to do my head in on principle though we have meet some nice people that charge us the same as Thais and not see this anywhere else on the main land.and before you stay its only 20baht i know but its on principles,my medication started at 200baht for 2 boxs now 70baht????????????????CRAZY

yes i heard they found a body to but was also told a couple of body parts to which was washed up on the beach,they have done a good job with the clean up but pity and the raw sewage going straight into the sea now cause the sea as took a lot of sand away so the sea is not what i would swim in.

try the post office or fed express in chaweng or they is one in tesco lamai not sure on cost though.i shipped 5 phones out to the uk from the post office and it only took a week.

lots of Russian-speaking people around but others to true, and lot of new stalls popping up all over in lamai, coconuts mainly, but the beach where we hit when we first came here in September was empty,now you have to early to get a place on it,and for the seller they having a ball,the guy we know who sells ice lolly's cant keep up.

Suksawat area too for making garments up, source the material (normally by the meter for printed fabrics but often for cotton by the kilo) and have it made up to pre determined patterns and sizes then add your own care label and brand. give it a go on Ebay to test the water and demand.

There is a shop on the middle street in Nathon who supply other retailers wholesale.It is just opposite the back of the SCB Bank (the one on the waterfront).Even if she can't supply she may be able to point you in the right direction.

Try eBay. I had a friend who made quite a lot selling t-shirts from Samui until others jumped on his idea and over-crowded the market.

This kind of stuff you can buy in the Mall in Bangkapi, Bangkok for a fraction of the price. I'd ask there.
