Just my opinion,  based on 1 year,  is gold or cash.  Based on time frame not too big the bigger the bigger the expectation since one year isn't much to based a relationship since you aren't here full time?  To Thais gold is the same as cash, anything brand name is just that today popular tomorrow not!

Use some imagination!!!  I always opted for the hand made 4 meter cast net since we live on the bank of the Mekong River. I bought the net from her granny who always gave me a good discount, so I got out pretty cheap for 1,000 baht. Gold is a waste because as soon as the little lady needs some quick cash, off to the local pawn shop. As a sign of even greater love I gave her two well seasoned cane poles to use when her arms tired of casting the net. She loves me too much, sure.

I don't claim to be a 747 expert, jet mechanic or even a commercial pilot, but I will wager anything left in my bank account by Jan 12th, that this plane is not a 747,  It is way too small.  Maybe the shape of the cockpit would give it away if anyone would take a close look at the 747 which has been sitting at the Udon Thani airport for years. This looks more like a military transport.  Business must be booming there noting the size of the outdoor restaurant...

    Interesting comments above !!

There seem to be a lot of pine grown down south and my Uncle in Law has a wood store which sells pine.

I think there must be some variety that flourish here and the wood is used for construction work ie the classic Thai scaffolding :)

Don't discount the idea OP, little more research required.

I lived in Alabama most of my life; many species of pine trees flourish. I lived in Isan for a number of years and comparing climates, I cannot find much difference; hot and humid then some cool weather in Thailand, not nearly as cold as in Alabama now, but not being a farmer I can only guess that Pine Trees would flourish in Thailand, although you are probably looking at 25 years before a decent harvest. Just my thoughts.  Good luck but like I say, it is a log time until payday.

    Well, which is it?

Quit whining. Stop going to the bars and do your drinking at home... You should know you and every other foreigner is a walking ATM so you should expect to be a victim.  You got caught being a victim of your own devices.  Booze and Bar Girls....

If your local office(s) won't fix the mistake, and you are leaving within a week of Dec 9, you could apply for an extension, which will be denied, but you will get 7 additional days (Dec 16) to leave the country.  This costs 1900 Baht, but might be easier than a trip to Bangkok to fix the problem.

It is even possible, that by asking for the 7-days extension, they won't be able to do it, because the existing stamp is, essentially, bs.  In that case, they will have to fix the incorrect stamp to get out of the box.

Every time I read one of these visa problems it makes me glad I am back in the USA....So, who you going to believe among the many visa lawyers here? You know they all mean well but you will also see no two posts offer the same advise.  Good luck in  the LO not so many Smiles anymore.

  6. The doubt and suspicion are already in your head. My advice, believe what your brain is telling you. It will save your money if nothing else. \If your significant other is a bar girl, you better wise up because she is a pro at taking your money and you can bet you are being played.  Welcome to the club. Don't come to Thailand and expect fidelity and true love in your relationship with almost any Thai girl, especially the ones who have been working the bars for awhile.  You are just an easy money target..

  7. I have the opinion that any foreigner who has taken a bar girl as a partner is just another ATM machine.  Can you really believe any young 20 year old bar girl from Soi 4 is going to fall in love with a 50 or 60 year old Farang booze guzzling geezer?  You see it all the time with the old guys and a pretty young girl. She will love you until the money runs out and she will be "friends" with other beer guzzling Farangs, as soon as you are gone for a day or two.

Those of us old geezers who have married girls from the small villages, girls who have never worked the bars will probably wind up giving our wife money for a new home, a Rubber Tree farm and money for 20 Rai of land for sticky rice, not to mention money to take care of a sick mom or other extended family member. I know I have done all of that and am still feeling like an ATM machine.  Does my wife love me?  All I can say is I think so, but in the back of my mind I wonder if she is putting up with me because she knows I have a monthly income of about 180,000 baht. Maybe that is why she does not mind when I have fun with her younger sister; maybe that is why she let her best friend sleep with us, with all the benefits a man could want,  for a year. She has never taken money from my wallet or abused my AM card, but still, in the back of my mind I think she puts up with me because I am a good, big hearted foreigner who pretty much gives her what she wants.

be grateful you didn't charged 20 - 30 thousand on top of bin like has happened in some bars.

Old Farangs should know this is a common practice in LOS. Don't act so surprised or outraged when it finally happens to you on a booze and give the girls another round night of drinking. Cannot imagine raising a stink over a 500 baht rip off, knowing what can happen to you. Here is a thought. Pay the girls bar fine, take her to your room and drink until you pass out, but be sure to lock your money in the room safe. Better yet, let your girlfriend for the night lock it away for you before you pass out. I love you long time G. I. LOL

  9. You just pay the overstay fine on departure from the country.

Where do you plan on going for the non-o visa?

Why do people always hit the panic button on overstay? I am betting it is because they do not have funds to pay the over stay; non the less another example of the hundreds of similar posts on this subject we all see here. It reall is an inexcusable mistake on the person's part.

  10. Some details of the new Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) are yet to be announced. However, it may not be what you are looking for. It allows unlimited entries into Thailand for six months after the visa is issued, but each entry allows a stay for a maximum of 60 days (extendable at immigration for an additional 30 days at a cost of 1,900 baht). Thus, border hops are still required if wishing to stay for an extended period. Further, there are some indications that the METV may only be available from your home country.

If your parents are over 50, a better option is a Non-Imm O visa that can be extended at an immigration office in Thailand for a year at a time, based on 800,000 baht in the bank or 65,000 baht per month in income.

GLBV. I bet you get as many different opinions here as you do replies to your post. If your immigrations friend does not have the up to date information, why on earth would you think anyone here whoud have the answer? You also mentioned November; well today is only the first day of the month so hang on and finally, go ask this question at immigrations and I bet you will get different answers too. Good luck

  11. I'd move to less expat-oriented area sooner.

If I had it to do over again I would have shacked up with the 17year old bar girl who was prettier by far than any other on soi 4 and whose magnificent rack overshadowed anything that did not have silicone in them.. It was her first night and I have cried over her for 8 years. She promised me that they had no sick water buffalo that was gonna die so please by me another one, and that mama and all her brood were not in the hospital and needed 30,000 baht each for surgery. Or I would have married my wife's beat friend who is the presonnification of a nympho and the best snuggle bunny I am ever likely to find in the complete world. That is just what I would have done concerning the past 8 years.

Before that, when here in 68, I would have shacked up with the big breasted bar girl for a full year instread of just when I could. Her boyfriend was TDy almost all the time so he paid the bills and I got the pleasure.

In 1970 I should have tried marrying the big breasted house girl who did our cleaning in Vietnam. She was a 26 year old widow and I was in love with her' alas a long lifetime ago but not forgotten.

Now, I am married to a small breasted Thai farm girl who has never worked the bars but her big breasted sister has, so when I feel the need to set my eyes on some firm large hooters, I can always see Ann and relive those days when I thought big breasts ruled my world.

Or I might go to India and try those beautoful women before making anotheer life decision. I have been partial to their skin tones and looks for about 25 years too...

  12. From the day you apply,,,, to the day you get your new passport, it takes only round 1 week here in Khon Kaen.... NOT 6 weeks..

    Good luck....

    Glegolo

My best advise to you is to talk to someone at your nearest embassy. You are leaving yourself open to many problems even entering Thailand without proper credentials, ID Passport, etc.Dont take chances of being denied entry and dont take everyones advise here as truth. Not all is same same when enteringThailand and you need to be sure to keep from being denied entry...

  13. If I would buy 49 % of an existing, functioning and strong selling Thai Company - what would it mean for me?

it means you own 49% of a Thai company, which is less than the 51% required to be a majority stake holder, further if your a foreigner 49% is the maximum percentage you can hold in Thai company.

Honestly if your getting into this and not sure what your getting into, which by you post seems you don't, I wouldn't be putting any money up until you do figure it all out, its called due diligence otherwise you could end up owning 49% of nothing

If you unsure of contracts and shareholders agreements, you better get yourself a lawyer of your own choosing as if your asking on here what to look out for, you had better be careful because you don't know what your looking at, spending a some decent money up front for a good lawyer will pat dividends in the long run

First post I have replied to in 3 months and I get a message saying I cant post again so quickly and must wait six seconds to add new reply. Well anyway, as I tried to say, don't invest because you will more than likely lose your money. Nobody, in my opinion, can trust anyone here besides themselves to count the money before it is siphoned off into someone else's pocket. Who do you trust here not to rip you off? No names come to mind; I thought so. me either. Don't be foolish. keep your money and invest elsewhere. You sure as heck will not be able to hire an expat book keeper or office manager...

  14. Don't do it, period, if you want to keep your money for more than a year. It probably means you will ultimately lose your investment. Who are you going to trust to make sure you are not being cheated; that would be my number one concern, knowing how so much of this country's businesses are managed. You sure as heck will not be able to hire a expat book keeper or office manager so your money will be deposited into a very loose sieve and you will never know it is going down the drain until you suddenly cannot meet expenses, but like most expats, you will learn the hard way not to invest money in Thailand and have it managed by the locals. As much as I love Thailand, I do not trust any of them with my money.

  15. Better late then never, but a 7 1/2 year delay is unforgivable. It is high time to instigate meaningful and thorough police reform, perhaps using the aborted effort in 2002 (13 years ago) as a starting point.

It breaks my heart to read this and infuriates me that this has gone on for 7 years without resolution. Nothing will be uncovered; the guilty party will have moved onto his next victim and all clues will be cold as ice. Why go through the motions other than to placate the parents? I hope it gives them some peace of mind and that the murdering scum rots in hell for his crime...RIP beautiful girl You are in a beautiful, peaceful place now and nobody will ever hurt you again.

  16. It is quite obvious she does not want to be aline with you and that she loves her tomboy friend. You are the money man and the extra man, and a farang at that, in the equation. Dump her before she and her girlfriend take all your money....some guys cant see the forest for the tomboy friends....you will always be the odd man out take that as solid advise because your relationship with ms tesco lotus is going nowhere,

Probably better off in Expat Life.

  17. He gets to join Hillary Clinton in getting caught in exaggerating the truth about his experiences in war zones.

It's always sad when the people reporting the news become the news. It doesn't lend anything to his credibility.

Prime case of a man wanting to be something he definitely is not; similar to stolen valor scumbags who want a headline they have not earned. I do not feel any empathy for him, Maybe he needs to quit or be fired for false reporting...but then that would mean about 95% of all journalists would need to be fired for lying too.

  18. A poll conducted in Bangkok amongst a group of 1,000 personally selected yellow shirts is hardly representative of the people. How about a poll stating, 100% pro government supporters support the government. I despise both sides of Thai politics. If you want something that basically represents the people then poll people from all areas. A poll amongst yourselves is just rubbish propaganda.

I am surprised any Thai would go on record speaking about the coup for fear of being arrested and needing to have one of those dreaded "attitude adjustments"..

  19. Well she was pretty dumb saying it was for self defense...

Should have said it was for minor repairs...

Just l like all great democracies...only the crooks can have guns, knives, machetes, etc. I must admit I had no idea having a pocket knife in one's car was a crime. That makes me glad I am back in the USA in a state where one does not even have to have a permit to own a gun....makes the crooks think twice before robbing you

  20. Obviously, failed to keep up the payments!

HMMM. er what this means for the bars in Udon thani who clearly have escorts working there

I guess if you pay the right amount of Tea Money you can run a pleasure bar cum massage parlor, or is it licensed to sell the girls short time or all night .It gets rather confusing for me since I have not gone short time since 1968 in Nakorn sawan province. Sixty baht was enough for a massage with a happy ending back then and the girls wore very skimpy clothes or sometimes see through negligees...When did it all lose its flavor for me? LOL

  21. And ivory produced in Thailand itself? Only African ivory is applicable to this change?

Quote, "Laws and regulations have been amended defining African elephants as protected animals in order to block the trade in African ivory." unquote.

So Thai elephants are still unprotected? Get the facts right reporter!

This new law means nothing to the poachers. They need to be killed in order to stop the illegal trade, but that will never happen because the poachers are smarter than the Game Wardens. When the market in Thailand becomes to hot to make it profitable to market ivory, they will just take their ivory elsewhere and continue to slaughter elephant and rhinos.

  22. I'm sure the Western allies will understand before the week comes to an end, and in addition will 98.6% of the Thai population support that general happiness once again blew a fuse.

So. The General is going to call the opposition party leaders for an attitude adjustment. I am sure that will NOT happen, as opposing parties NEVER see the other party's proposals as having the least bit of merit. The General assumes the opposition can be made to understand HIS Martial Law policies. I am sure they will NOT agree on this either. I guess next, the General will have the opposition arrested and imprisoned on some trumped up Martial Law violation. The big question is how will continued Martial law impact the generl population of rural Thailand. It has already had adverse impacts in my wife's vilage in Isan. Freedom is a word from a former government.
