  1. 500 baht for the Certificate of Residency..................oooops we already covered that....Its free supposedly .....but thats another repeated topic!

Yep, this is what I paid this morning in Jomtien.

It was 300 THB exactly 1 yr ago...

  2. I registered my phone at the AIS office in the lower level of Central Festival in Pattaya. It took two minutes. All that was needed was the phone number and my passport details.

If you're getting a new SIM, the registration will probably be done when you purchase it . (??)

I was there about 3 weeks ago. A rather straight forward procedure indeed but be prepared to wait if :

    • your queue number is > 5 for there is no dedicated registering counter per se. Every counter is proceeding any type of transaction; returns, warranty service will jam the queue anytime.
    • you have an old SIM (5 or 6 years), they have to encode a new one if you want to keep the same phone number. Only this task took them 20 minutes to complete.

I was there for 45 minutes altogether. New SIM card was free. Took about 5 days before new implemented options (4G services if I remember) were activated. SMS confirming the update was in Thai only. No use to show passport if you got Thai Driving License with you.

  3. Thais like to touch light skin....and visa versa

    same for hairy skin.

sister in law loves to stroke my forearms. and once got courage to stroke my chest, which sent her into fits of laughter

I was having a cold one at a BB when my lady of the day saw a shirtless and amazingly hairy falang on WS. She almost broke me a rib with her sharp elbow poke. '' Look, look, oulang-outang, oulang-outang'' Took me a sec to realize what she was talking about but nearly choked on my beer then. cheesy.gif

  4. snip...I asked the very same question to the contractor who had to pull vehicles out of the way every morning before he could continue work.... the answer was plain & simple:

We put up warning signs & lights every night but people steal them to sell for cash/recycling or materials for something else !!

Reminds me of Newfoundlanders extinguishing lighthouses to have some nice wreckage to plunder at dawn. Those were the days my friend.

  5. @ Paulhino

Launching your VPS upon connection will eventually get you back to more normal ping times. At least, that's what it did for me... thumbsup.gif

Amazingly, I 10-ping CAT-Telecom in BKK from Chonburi at 263 ms but takes me only 56 ms to 10-ping Toronto (or NY, LA, etc.)

The first 5 or 6 hops to CAT give a decent +/- 45 ms but then slow down to an unacceptable >200 ms

Anybody knows what's that bottleneck down the route ?

  6. We were there at 4am and #700 in the que. If you arrived at 7am, it would be to late.

It was like a zoo tongue.png

Arrived Bangna at 10hr30 Tuesday and #1720 in queue. Biometrics done by 19hr00. No fast track to get the passport made in 3 days (as still posted on the Foreign Ministry web site), tea money not accepted either.

Hundreds patiently waiting in perfect order, laying or sitting where they could. Very quiet crowd, with people softly talking to each other to kill time wai2.gif

All in all, the 2hr30 return trip to Pattaya on a crowded van, doing some hundred stops on Rd. 3, was a lot more harassing indeed.

I cross my fingers the 10-12 days wait is not further delayed by some post office issue due to the never ending protests... but by now I know that I'm a lucky bastard biggrin.png

  7. Great question, 7% VAT based on what price or value?

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I would check my last marine survey (required by most insurance companies upon renewal policy) some surveyors do state that value in there.

Otherwise, any able marine surveyor will produce that kind of document for a small fee.

  8. ... Grow up and see a doctor.

Haven't seen one for 30 years (I was 60), when I told him so he replied "I don't see my mechanic either when everything runs smooth"... Got a full check-up then analysis confirmed high blood pressure and pre-diabetic condition. I tell you Man, the sooner the better.
