  1. Thanks guys.  Just hope it's as nice as Bangkapi.  I spent 18 months there and loved the area.  Loved the fact that it was away from the centre and very 'Thai' if you'll excuse the  saying.

I think you will find bang kae is far more 'thai' than bangkapi but i'd better not say why. Bang kae also has the mall which is the vatican of country music and also two of the finest cafe's in bkk with the third, krungton also being not far away. Bang kae is about 100 baht taxi from surasak BTS-peter

They had sent out by post some complimentary certificates to wait-list for stand-by upgrade, which I cannot normally use, travelling with KW and rug-rats as I invariably do.

I roll up to check-in at LHR, presnt all the bumf and attempt to claim my place on the standby wait-list (Big Deal ! :o ), only to have my attention drawn to the small-print.

same thing happened to me. Would not mind so much but I have never had an upgrade whereas thai friends say they often get them and even from ecconomy-first, none are gold card members. After going thai about 50 times I have had enough of the food and crappy entertainment so have decided to try Eva, the miles knockout is the last straw, idiots-peter

  3. Here's a novel idea, why not PAY for music and film instead of supporting the illegal acvtivity which is damaging it, and don't bother pasting some news article claiming otherwise. Not paying for music and film is theft.-peter

  4. Good Morning Thailand :o Can you help me? I am moving to Thailand soon and I am bringing three dogs with me from the UK, do I have to quarantine them? and are there any boarding kennels anybody can recommend in the Pattaya area?

    Many Thanks...........

I think you should have them put down mate, not only are dogs pests but I think you'll find thailand has too many already-peter

  5. Crackdown on motorcyclists who can't read the sign (written in English): "Please drive on the left". :o

How about a crackdown on bikes riding along pavements, also:

falangs wearing shorts-don't they realise what <deleted> they look

shop assistants following you around pointing out the bleeding obvious

    hotels charging outrageous joiner fees

  6. Never thought they would stay long after the MRT opened, land became of more value than for scruffy bar beers. Not bad though as they lasted five years almost to the day. The wise owners got out last year. If they are shutting down eyesores can soi 4 be far behind? -peter

  7. Now that's more like it. Your wife has good taste chalermpon is a great singer and writes for many others, he is Siriporns favourite singer and does a good concert.

Songs for life have not really changed in style for 30 years and whereas they were once prostest songs the stuff they sing now seems tame and uncontroverisal. Look at carabaos stuff, and I'm no expert here, but he does seem to have sold out. Where are all the songs protesting at ecconomic inequality and corruption in high places? No he does made in thailand and songs about monks and old temple stones that were returned years ago. -peter

  8. If it was my child and I was choosing, I would choose a British University and probably a British education  throughout - Just like so many wealthy Thais

They do do for very good reason.

UK Universities are a bit like football clubs with premier ones and those in the minor leagues. Comparing somewhere like a Top Cambridge College with lets say De mont fort in leicester could be compared to Chelsea and Northampton town.

Standards at former Poly's like De montfort can be woefull, with almost anyone applying being admitted onto courses which they are often unable to complete leading to high drop out rates. Then there are the standards of the courses and teaching to be considered which are often far from acceptable. It's all about bums on seats and income for a lot of Universities and sadly although they spout a lot about quality and standards it's the bank balance which comes first. Some of the courses are a waste of students time and do not equip them for outside employment in their chosen field of study. Where do all the thousands of media studies students go? two I know are working in a pizza a restaurant and in an estate agent. Some UK universities benifit themselves more than some of the students.

If I were chosing a UK university today I would be very carefull over the choice, they are not all the same.-peter

  9. And people may find your choice depressing. Don't knock someone's choice of music. Take the piss out of their clothes, hair or whatever but flatly telling someone that there favourite music is crap is downright bad mannered

I did not say anyone's choice of music is crap did I, just that in a land with some of the best music in the world to listen to it is depressing when it is largely ignored in favour of the most commercial string and pleng chewit- names. Also it would be nice to hear why people think Loso, Carabao and all the other usual names are 'cool', just saying I like silly fools etc seems a bit pointless-peter

  10. My Thai favorite, Fon Tanasoontorn.

What a depressing collection of favourites, I like none of them, with the exception of Fon. But her latest valentine CD is a bit disappointing compared to earlier ones. Maybe the writers at Sure are giving their new singer Air the better songs? Fon's outstanding tracks are Jai Orn and Ab Rak Khow. She is greatly respected as a good role model and all round Jai dee. I love some of the duets she did with Monsit Khomsoi and and with the original cha cha cha girls.

As well as Air another great newish singer is Tai Orantai, her latest CD will be a classic. Not only a good singer but with Grammy's writers behind her she cannot go wrong.

My favourites change all the time but presently include:

    Jintara Poonlap

    Pumpuang Duangchan

Sunaree Rachesima ( very nice to her fans)

    Deang Jitakorn

Mike Piromporn (best male singer since surapol)

    Siriporn Ampaipong

    Banyen Raggen

    Job and Joy

    Tai Orantai

  11. Generally I dont have a problem with this.I have many Thai friends in bands  In Bangkok. But i have to say. I am in Penang at the moment. I went to see a local playing some songs. ###### ###### it was terrible.

Why not hear them singing their own songs? Why anyone wants to listen to locals singing western songs at all is one of lifes great mysteries to me-whats the point? Not so bad if an ex pat for a bit of nostaligia once or twice a year but thats about it.

Having said that thias singing string is almost as bad, that's a horrible empty musical import as well.-peter

  12. Maybe they are getting revenge on falangs for inflicting Jonas and that cute blonde chick on them.  :o

It seems not generally known that Jonas Anderson and Christy Gibson grew up in, and are both active members of the mind ###### cult the family. This was previously known as the children of god and as usual in cults demanded total commitment even to the point of letting other memebers shag your kids, yes they preached sex with kids. Don't buy their CD's as part of the profits go towards the cult. I have seen them both, Jonas is a joke as a singer whislt christy although not a bad singer has no emotions to empart and behaves like a 'star', neither deserve the title luktung singer-peter

  13. men. The lyrics to a few look thung songs have also illustrated the sad plight of the Thai man whose wife leaves him for a foreigner (the lyricists excuse was that it was “for money”).

Can anyone name any such songs or the singers? I have not seen any examples of falangs appearing in country songs at all, although there are a few references to falangland and the odd complete song about a falang country, where a thai might be working, or a song like arai world trade centre. The only one I can think of is in a Job and Joy song, but that does not involve the girl leaving a thai man for the falang.

On Nigel this would seem to be a rumour which remains to be confimed, nobody else seems to have heard of the incident. I would not wish this to happen to him, perhaps being kicked in a klong though-peter
