You’ll be fine. Just go through the unmanned gates. From what I recall, you are overseas born. So this is simply your first entry to Thailand as an overseas born Thai citizen....

    Hi Samran!

We've done this topic perhaps a decade ago??

It has finally come to a time that I have to do this as my employment in Thailand as a foreigner for which I've been issued a Non-Immigrant B is coming to an end.

But no, I was born in Thailand.

While @ubonjoe is correct that there should be no problem entering with your blank Thai passport, I can remember a report from the past where a Thai passport issued in Thailand  (as in your case) was a problem with no Thai exit stamp. This was some time ago, and was with a Thai dual national. As I recall the story, Thai immigration ended up deciding the holder was not a legitimate Thai, and destroying the Thai passport. I trust you will not run into anything so extreme. However, if they can ignore Thai tourist visas, maybe some officials might be allowed to ignore Thai passports also.

I have read multiple such threads myself, but not someone claiming to have his/her passport forfeited and destroyed. ????????

    What happened to that person?

It's one thing to deny entry to a foreign passport holder with a valid and legitimate Thai visa, another thing to bar entry to Thai citizen with a genuine Thai passport...  ????

  3. Just as the title says.

I'm leaving Thailand in April as a passport holder of another country and returning to Thailand with a freshly new passport to be issued in Thailand next week.

I'm a Thai citizen by birth.  Have Thai national ID card.

Would I have difficulty entering Thailand with a blank Thai passport with no stamp trail at all??

  4. I have to admit I haven't seen her "gold card" myself but she claims to have received it when she received the same for all her three children who were born Thais, myself included (my house registration under her address). So it wasn't sent out to her recently like I said earlier but soon after the health scheme's inception.

What do you mean by "higher level of care"?

No, permanent residents are nto eligible, only citizens.

Hi, Thanks Sheryl.  That's my understanding too but what do you think they sent her one for when she doesn't and never had a Thai citizenship?  Do other permanent resident receive "gold card" only to be turned away at the hospital they've been assigned to?

  6. I have dual citizenships, one of which is Thai, therefore I'm eligible for 30 Baht medical scheme and I've been using it at Chula hospital since its inception for prescription of an expensive synthetic hormone (among others).

Before that, I used to go to Bumrubgrad and I still go there.  Despite all the hearsay I hear about the poor quality of medical care under 30 Baht scheme my personal experience at Chula is anything but excellent, if not superior to Bumrungrad.  And it might depend on which hospital they assign you to depending on the address on your Tabien Baan (unlike medical under social insurance you can't choose).   However it's not without a glitch.  You can't go there for simple cold or tummyache.  For that they assigned me a public clinic called "Center 16" (ศูนย์ 16) near the old Lumpini Stadium in the low-income neighborhood of Bong Kai.  It's only when you have a condition beyond their capacity (I have a feeling most ailments are) they refer you to a real hospital like Chula.  And you have to go there to get that referral renewed annually.

I also have to go to Chula twice each time for one doctor appointment to get the medication I need.  That's because unlike Bumrungrad result of my blood test does not show up before noon, the time my outpatient clinic closes (endocrinology for me, might depend on the clinic and department).  So I have to come back on another date to see my doctor, who wouldn't prescribe me the medication without checking my electrocyte.  As for Bumrungrad they didn't require me the same blood test at all, despite it actually being necessary.  In the U.S. many patients who receive the same medication under private medical coverage receive generic medicine but I only ever had brand name medication prescribed both at Bumrungrad and Chula under 30 Baht thingy.

Now my question is my parent, who doesn't have Thai citizenship but longtime permanent resident of Thailand had recently had a "gold card" for 30 baht medical scheme sent to her.  Is a permanent resident who therefore doesn't have a Thai citizenship eligible for 30 Baht medical at all?  Has the topic been done or should I start another fresh new thread for that?

Most of the capacitor equipped cams will hold the date/time longer than a few days.

I'm not sure.  The YouTube reviewer makes no such mention about the capacitor limitation but that's what the store owner told me.

All of the lower end, popular, dashcams from china are cloned by multiple companies.      Some look exactly the same externally, but are a mish-mash of internal parts that don't really work, or work well.

The A118/B40 is a good example,  There are some clones floating around from various chinese manufacturers that are a nightmare.

The actual Viofo branded models are usually ok, and have some product support (such as it is when dealing with a chinese manufacturer) after the sale.

Viofo G1W-S I held in hand was actually branded and clearly marked as Viofo on its product and the box.  How about Viofo A119S.  Any reason I shouldn't buy it?

Agreed that anybody interested in dash cams should be aware of the G1W but did you actually listen to the reviewer? He made the point that Viofo had taken the G1W and put there slant on it for what its worth. The issue I suggest is more whether Viofo as a manufacturer are a better quality bet then some of the others.

Same as the A118 - mine supposedly made by a company called Blueskysea..........

One I held in hand and in the youtube video it was clearly marked as Viofo.  But suppose it's not, should that be any reason for concern?

  9. I just went to a shop called DashcamThailand in Minburi whose owner speaks fairly good English, almost coming home with a new dash cam.  I narrowed my choices to 5 models including Vicovation OPIA2, but knew nothing about this dash cam I found at the shop and almost overlooked it and never cared to know its feature and spec because I didn't like the style and cheap finish.  However, it is fairly new model from a well-established, seemingly reputable brand VIOFO and while its features are basic, its spec and quality seems too good to be true for 1,900 Baht, not to mention it had one of the most important feature for me - no need to attach to the film-attached windshiled (comes with a rear view mirror mount aside from usual suction cup mount and 3M adhesive mount).  Here's why I thought it's highly recommended and suitable for Thailand, if you don't mind its style and finish.

    1. Good video quality day and night, but particularly at night (only up to 1,080p and 30fps).

    2. f/1.6 fast lens with Sony Exmor IMX323 CMOS sensor (no wonder the good night video quality)
    3. Integrated Capacitor, therefore high heat tolerance (tested in up to 59℃ temperature and promoted as "for warm weather" dash cam in the YouTube video review).
    4. 3 different mounting methods - suction cup, 3M adhesive and rear view mirror attachment
    5. All that for 1,9000 Baht,

However, while it has capacitor built-in to save the video files without fail, without a built-in battery its clock will go dead and will need to reset time if the engine ignition is off for more than two days - so I was told.  The optional 500 Baht GPS dongle for GPS logging will reset the time every time you turn the ignition, however.

I was too happy to buy it just for rear view mirror mount but didn't get it in the end.  Why?  because I found out during installation the rear view mirror mount interferes with the tab for my rear view mirror's anti-glare day/night tilt.  :saai::sleep:

Here's the review video just posted yesterday by a famous dash cam reviewer Car Cam Central.

Depending how much it bugs you and if you get satisfaction in fixing things, you could spray paint the rubbery skin and get rid of the sticky feel.

Clean off as much sticky stuff as you can with washing up liquid then when dry spray with grey primer. If you can remove the actual camera from the skin all the better for a neat job, if not some detailed masking will do.

    Here's one I did earlier:-   59982b7fd3ccd_PaintedTorch.jpg.8ba9b3d02ef4bac3de1ace257641bd16.jpg

Obviously not a camera but the principle is the same. The grey is what was the sticky rubber stuff. If grey is not your color you can overspray with whatever suits you.

Daffy, thanks for all that but it's not just the skin but the shell is also cracked up from the pressure applied to it while my wife carried it in her bag during car wash, exposing the the mainboard inside.  Also making the LCD panel difficult to flip open and close.  After 4 years I decided it's not worth doing anything but just keep using it until I settled on what dash cam to replace next or just wait till the existing high end models price to come down.  Surprisingly it never failed in such a state and the built-in battery is still working after 4 years in Thailand (bought in Japan).

But I might try that with one of my Canon binoculars.  It's too bad that it got so greasy and sticky (almost like hot asphalt) that I gave up on using it despite nothing wrong with its optics.

Batteries fail, eventually.    When that happens it's not always catastrophic, but most dashcams won't save the last file  (Ignition off) when the battery is toast.   That's the only reason a dashcam has a capacitor or battery, to save the last file when power is cut.

Most dashcams also run a bit warm, when coupled with heat from the sun, and it varies with location and the angle of the windshield you have it mounted in.   I have seen pictures of dashcams that the body has melted from sun exposure.

You also have some focus shift issues with some dashcams, that use a plastic lens mount.  lens shifts enough to knock it out of focus.

My dash cam stores video files in 120 seconds segment.  So is it fair to say at worst, I'd lose the last of the 2 min recording (or less) most of which would be in parking lot in the event the battery fails?  And it probably doesn't matter much at all if it's a capacitor or battery if I intend to upgrade and replace the dash cam every 3 - 4 years?

I've not had a battery fail in a dashcam, yet, but I moved away from cams with batteries as a primary cam.

(I always have two forward facing ones in my tractor trailer in the US since I know NO cam is 100% reliable)

I have a few old ones with batteries that have been used a year or so, no problems.

My dash cam came in thin, smooth rubberized skin which had become very coarse and sticky over the years.

I had a smash and grab similar to yours. Believe me, even with a high-resolution camera, they cannot identify the culprit from 8 frames of blurred hand and the shower of glass. But I do see the relevance of having one inside the cab that can be turned to point at the nice, friendly traffic cop on a shakedown.

Sorry it happened.  I put my bag in the middle of the rear seat, which would have required the thief to stretch through the window to reach for it, but the front seat might have blocked the view anyway.

I think the Pajero Sport boasts an all seeing 'eye' type surround camera but not sure how that looks in real life.

    Really?  Like a factory option??

Lesson: Don't leave valuables worth 30,000 baht sitting on the rear seat for the world to see. Just asking to be robbed.

I usually don't, not even at attended parking lot.  But the thief didn't know the contents of it and would have taken it anyway.  I usually also don't park it in an open, unattended parking (actually an open plot of land next to a temple).  But after almost two hrs drive with friends and being told to park there I had no choice.  I actually initially carried the tote bag with me but put it back in the car later for I had many other stuffs to carry.  I could have at least put it in the 3rd row seat where it can't be grabbed without opening the door (which would have triggered the alarm).

  14. 41 minutes ago, NanLaew said:

I don't consider a second camera filming the back seat as truly a 'rear camera'. I would be more interested in catching the bugger that rear-ended me rather than the surprised looks on the faces of my back seat passengers.

I once had my car broken in and a tote bag on rear seat with contents worth over 30,000 Baht stolen from my car.  This cam, although poor in video quality might have helped identify the theft for it's capable of recording in parking mode.

Impressive but sounds like a significant investment for a dash cam.  Has anyone ever made a good use of a dash cam in parking mode?  I wish I had one when my car was broken in many years ago from the rear side window and got a tote bag placed in rear seat  with contents worth over 30,000 Bath stolen (thief was careful not to open the door as it triggers alarm).  But the camera probably had to be facing the passenger room to capture the face of the thief.

  16. And here's front and rear cameras in-one-piece, dual channel dash cam with parking mode, etc.  Looks good and reviewer seems to like it but video quality looks pretty poor, especially rear camera.  Not listed on Lazada but available from Amazon at US$170 if anybody's interested...
