  1. The biggest watermark in S.E. Asia is currently under construction behind Silverlake. maybe when it's finished there will be some competition and prices will be lowered. You can only hope. Howeve, from the prices listed above, seems like they lowered them from the initial opening.

This is the website..such as it is currently, for the new park. http://www.ramayanawaterpark.com/en/home/

  2. You need to re-read my posts. I stated the name brand is Gadget Guru. Also....I only put the link there for the brand of box. I realize there is more than one, but unless you have a better translation than I have NOTHING was CLEAR. Guess I would rather pay the cheaper price anyway.....i've already set up 14.1 on a laptop, but rather have a box......I was just hoping maybe someone had experience with this particular brand...well doesn't matter anymore.

Already done all the research I'm gonna do on the different box formats etc.. At first I though I'd get ROKU, but it has it's limitations, whereas android is more adaptable.

Guess I will just order a pre-configured Kodi g-box from Amazon and have my family send it to me....that way I know for sure what I'm getting and for sure documentation will be in English.

I wouldn't call 'android' or 'media player box' a brand.

Probably better to refer to media players as a 'type', and there are several.

Sticks, Boxes, Set Top, Built-in, Integrated, HTPC, etc. And, sure, many are running Android, or some flavor of Linux.

A lot of discussions already occurring over the last two years in the Internet, computers, communication, technology and Audio/Visual, HiFi and Home Theatre forums.

Just use the ThaiVisa search "android box" or "internet TV".

Have you read any of those topic entries yet?

So, 3,490฿ is OK, but 4,990฿ for a preconfigured box is way too high. Got it.

While I didn't buy an M8 android box, I've purchased and configured a CS918 hdmi android box for 3,000฿. Learned what custom roms and features could be run on it.

I got it mostly for the Thai Family to watch Internet downloaded and streamed content. They've gotten used to playing with the standard android interface and lauching youtube and thai specific music and movie apps, but while xbmc would have been trivial to install they never took to that media player interface. They'd rather watch a rerun on the DVB-S2 Sat box.

But for expats these are mostly great devices. Very quiet and non-intrusive. Great HD picture.

Before buying a specific model it's highly recommended you read and research the user feedback and product specific forums for information on how well they work, or what one can do to get them to work. Just like their mobile phone cousins, an under-powered device with no real memory isn't much fun.

  3. Does anyone know about this line of media players. It's android for sale on Lazada...says will work with xbmc/Kodi. Not sure if it includes pre-installed software or not, but I have experience installing Kodi 14.1 on windows...and there is help on You Tube, but just wondering about the box quality and how easy to use....

  4. I have been in touch with the head company of BKF Int'l division because I was fed up with not getting any information from the SE asian distributor of BKF. I was informed that they have been working with a company in Thailand for several months to get BKF in the stores here..just takes time with all the red tape. The person here in Thailand will be notifying me on updates, so I will pass that a long as soon as I hear anything.

  5. If you listen to the channel that gives news on updates for Truevisions...it's because they are changing to HDTV/digital...and it only affects satellite for

now. On Monday the 21st. the network will be down from one minute past midnight until 10 a.m. Cable subscribers will get the same updates soon. Whole country changing to digital.

Why, so we can have 500 channels of Thai soaps and variety shows?

Why do you spit on the messenger.....there was a question that I answered.....that's what's going on. I don't watch true,(info from someone else that does) just giving free info....Next time ya all can just moan and groan!

  7. My husband, just informed me that the Thai Calendar for legal holidays in Pattaya, includes the 20th in the celebrations this year. officially 18,19, and 20th. Have you ever known a Thai holiday that is at the weekend to NOT include the WHOLE weekend? (or more)

  8. From guidelines for application of Thai citizenship....(how many of you are willing to do this..... I believe this has been added in the last few years)

"Applicants should produce a document that they have submitted to their embassy or consulate in Thailand that demonstrates their intention to renounce their existing citizenship when they are approved for Thai citizenship."

  9. We have one rai for sale in a development east of hwy 11 down 1006.....turn off not far after crossing the RR tracks.

When we checked what we could sell it for two years or so ago the price was 2,000,000 baht.

I think prices have gone up a bit since then. In any event it's still for sale. Concrete road, electric and phone connections close by. Land is square flat piece.

  10. I need help disconnecting my question mark slash key from a shortcut. Since I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 my question mark slash key does not type the question mark or slash.....it will only open a side bar for "project to a connected screen". I have search all the settings, done all kind of seaches to try and find out how to get that key back to typing a question mark and slash. You wouldn't think not having that key would affect much, but I can't even type my address without it.

    Thanks,

  11. Surprisingly enough, I asked at a Kasikorn exchange booth at Central Festival today and the girl there told me "no limit". I was surprised as my bank (SCB) always does a third degree when paying for my health insurance or sending other money out of the country even in smallish amounts. I asked her B300k she said no problem. I asked how much more and she said, "No limit".

I'd rather do the cash in my pocket as I am not going to my home country. The $10,000 notification is not a limit, it is just that you have to declare it. Not a problem.

Right...there is NOT a limit, but if you want to be under the radar....then it's 10,000 USD. good luck!

  12. If you are selling the car to a farang - you could get them to do the exchange as part of the deal.

I have also heard of cases where the farang will deposit the money, most likely via the internet, into your home country bank account, and the deal is done.

Not a great idea to have around $3500US on your person, or in your room.

Thanks, Rickster. No limit? I might wait to sell the car then.

    Whereabouts is Tilok-u-Thit 2 ? Sorry - I don't get to Phuket Town much.

The legal limit without having report your cash to Customs is $10,000 USD or equivalent.

    $20,000

Sent from my iPad using ThaiVisa app

Actually legal limit for carrying with on a flight is up to 10,000 USD...that INCLUDES any loose change in your pockets....HOWEVER, with TSA the way they are and very sticky fingers....don't think it's a good idea...either wire transfer or international bank draft.

  13. Are there any leather repair shops that are actually EASY to get to in Pattaya....a place that actually refinishes cracked leather instead of replacing it? I have a very soft leather on my sofa that we brought with us from the states...but needs a little TLC after 10 years plus....

  14. start with lemon juice - never underestimate fresh lemon juice

strongly recomend a dermatologist before you go nuts with chemicals off the internet, at least get their opinion and advice about what NOT to use as some stuff has crazy side effects

You need to be wary of lemon and/or lime juice. You will not know you are photosensitive until you try it and then it's too late.

I had lime on my hands, just from cooking (not on my sensitive face even) I was outside less than ten minutes on

a cloudy day and I had burns on my hands. Even after the blistering disappeared I had red marks on my hands for at least six months.

  15. While looking for info on another topic I ran across this topic. What started my dilemma with greying whites was a front loading washer in a house

we were staying in in BKK. It would spin a couple a times in either direction and then just let the clothes sit in the "water saving" minimal amount of dirty water. yuck! On top of that the shortest wash cycle was 60 minutes.

Anyway, after moving in our new house I had my own washing machine but still those pesky grey whites. (deep well water) By accident, when soaking a white plastic bucket, I found that bleach was actually turning the water yellow. Many whites now say do not use chlorine bleach, I quit using it as it seemed that chlorine bleach actually made those clothes REALLY grey.

After trying almost every brand of washing machine detergent, I found that Attack in HOT water with Attack oxygen additive works very well at keeping hubby's t-shirts very white. I just run on the pre-soak cycle before the main wash and even his filthy socks come out white. IMO the oxygen additives work way better than bleach....also, Haiter bleach has a foaming agent which I wasn't especially fond of....when I did use bleach for household etc. (Just a side note,if you build a house and have a new well and disinfect the water lines etc, use Clorox brand bleach as there is no foaming agent.)

  16. I made and sold soap in the states and wanted to continue making soap for myself over here, but for the small soap maker it is easier to buy what I need in the U.S. than here. For one thing small soap makers in it for the business are not sharers of information like they are in the U.S. They are afraid of competition.

That being said you can buy coconut oil in bottles at Lemon Green Farms in BKK...1 litre recently went up to 175 baht...so although it is

not the hydrogenized coconut oil (white hard melting points of 72 degrees F or 90 degrees F) and is not virgin coconut oil, it is supposedly

organic with a slight coconut smell. If you buy it I recommend putting in the frig as the heat here WILL make it go off.

Sunflower oil you can buy anywhere...Tesco, Makro, Big C. They also have safflower oil, but the price is prohibitive of using much in your recipe.

Olive oil is my preferred largest percentage base oil, but it is quite expensive over here too. I am now going to try a recipe with mostly Palm oil

and coconut oil with a couple ounces each of good expensive oils or butters...ex: olive, grape seed, coco butter. You can get fragrance oils in china town in BKK, but be careful they do not contain alcohol. You can also get some essential oils. They used to have a thai essential oil store online, but they are no more as their prices were very high. I don't know where you are from but if from the states and have someone coming over for a visit there are two main suppliers I use in the U.S. for fo and eos that are very resonable. send me an PM if interested.

Lye you can get at any hardware store even small village hardware....soda fai.....I have yet to see potassium hydroxide for making liquid soaps.

or Palm Kernel Oil, or Palm stearic which both make a hard bar of soap.

    Hope this helps a bit.

  17. the thing is the treatment and the special shampoo you have to use are so dirt cheap on amazon.....if you have someone

to bring it to you it's worth a shot. Even if it lasts only a month or so IMO, compared to the cost of the salon treatments.

Also, the shampoo is sulfate free, which is what curly heads should be using to begin with.......or so I've read/heard.

Oh well, each to their own....I think it's worth a try, just don't know when someone will be coming my way from the states.

  18. I went for the brazilian keratin treatment as suggested by dgisler in the other older thread. Took a couple of hours, smelled something awful, but 3000 baht lighter and I am FRIZZ FREE! THANK GOD ALMIGHTY FRIZZ FREE AT LAST!

Sorry, Couldn't resist! Its been so many years, so much product, hair irons, blow dryers, special brushes etc.

Treatment is not as severe at the japanese one from the sounds of it (cheers eek for the blow by blow description of your experience with the japanese hair straightening). did a fair amt of online research and this washes out where the japanese one does not. So, special shampoos and not too much shampooing but, it should last about 3-5 months. Immediately after the treatment it was really straight and flat to my head. I waited about 4 days to shampoo (they said min 2) and after washing and letting it air dry, I was very pleased to see it had body but NO FRIZZ.

I will most assuredly do this again when it wears out.

I had it done as dgisler suggested at the Corner Salon off Rama IV, around the corner from the old Robinsons Silom and down about a block. You want Nang, you can email but you have to make an appt with her. She seems to only work after 3 pm and you'd best remind her one day before the appt.

I've been checking out what is called the Brazilian blowout on http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curl-products/i-did-a-brazilian-blowout They say this one doesn't smell bad at all but actually has a pleasant smell. What I like about it is that if you want you can have straight hair, or as in my case I just want to relax the curl a bit. It's also supposed to make it softer and smoother....Now all I need is someone that actually knows how to cut curly hair and has this product. It cost between $250-450 in the states.....I'm hoping if it's available it's way cheaper than that.

  19. A Farang mate of mine was treated there for heart problems and he reckons they were great with him although they did not have all the necessary tehnology and had to refer him on.

I've also received minor treatment there under the Thai Social Security scheme with no adverse treatment.

I also know one Farang that was turned away by them though.

I'm not sure if being told to come back on Monday morning at 7am counts as a legitimate turnaway, but they told me they had too many patients and not enough doctors today, having arrived not long before lunch, mind you. I assume they must close their emergency department on weekends too, which seems a rather advanced sort of system.

Thank goodness for antibiotics across the drugstore counter to fix me up again. :)

    \

They have an evening clinic everyday....at least during the week. I had to take my husband on more than one occasion. On weekends you would use the emergency dept.......emergency is never closed and has separate check in next to OPD dept.

If you went in just before noon, it's understandalbe why you were turned away, as they use the afternoon to clear out all the patients from the morning.

  20. you might look into a pay-as-you-go phone through AT&T. it's called a 'Go Phone'. check it out: http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-ser...arted/index.jsp

My nephew bought me a go phone from AT&T for my visit last year...(he works for them) It was almost totally useless except in big cities. No coverage.

If you want cheap cellphone with good coverage area use a tracfone. Buy at Best Buy and you can even pick up refill cards at dollar stores, 7/11 type stores etc.

    Tracfone

Skype is good too, but then you either have to have a U.S. wireless account or hook up to the internet. I think skype out to anywhere in the world is approx. 1 cent per minute.

Computers in internet cafes should have skype, just log into your account. I buy skype out for 10 dollars, to use from Thailand. Cost 2 cents a minute to the states, double. Still

    last for months.

    Beachbunny

P.S. If you want lots of minutes for $5 U.S. go to an asian market (especially in CA, but you can use in other states)and buy a phone card to call thailand, you can use regular or cell phone. I got hundreds of minutes for $5, lasted almost the whole month calling home everyday, sometimes more than once.

  21. Thanks everybody for your comments regarding my scribbles. Indeed, I am over 29 and I have learned by now that Thai men tend to get married when they are younger, at least the majority. I am not unhappy, as one of you suggested. Being in a relationship for more than three months often give more cause to grief than being single for a considerable time. I also understand that Pattaya is a sex-orientated city, which has its advantages haha. Interesting to read that men in the south tend to be taller. In Europe it’s the opposite. When I lived in Bangkok I was able to make more quality friends, but the air quality and noise made me move to a quiet place outside Pattaya. I thought it was a good choice as I still desire to travel to Bangkok frequently. From Pattaya it isn’t a very long drive.

Also, I don’t speak a lot of Thai and whenever I visit other places, nobody tends to speak English or French or Hindi or Spanish. What cities do you girls (and boys) think are good for living? I work at home so I do not rely on finding an outside job, just a nice place to live.

If you are looking for someone around your age and single, I'd say Bangkok or at least where a big university is located....someone doing post graduate work. It has been my experience that thais, men & women, marry later than most in the west. I asked my husband about that and he said generally they marry late 20s or later, but that may be just his family and his experience also....most of the ones we know wanted to or want to get all their education out of the way before getting married. My husband was 36 when we got married....his brothers younger, but not by much.....all from Bangkok though.

    Good luck!
