  1. thankyou lomatopo and jiu jitsu.

i bave a samsung galaxy swhich sadly does not have the 850 mhz band and the trueshop tried one of their sims to make sure too.

i like those two websites...very handy. looks like thehuawei mifi is the way to go

one quick follow up ques... the listed routers talk about windows and mac osx operating systems. i have neither...no computer but will buy a tablet same time as wifi routeer///. will these portable wifi routers operate/install on a tablet easiy...or shld i get a windows tablet altuhogh windows 8 is not mentioned as being compatible...this is for the initial setting up..

  2. i am about 40 mins SW of udoon thani and have seen true network 3g speeds on friends iphone.

i need to hotspot an ipod and android device and will also get a wifi tablet. i was going to get a 3g tablet but have been advised to get a mobile wifi router. do True offer these or shld i but elsewhere. my aim is low power consumption first hence non 3g tablet... especially if i can surf using ipod.

any advice or suggestions on such a unit...

  3. I am looking for a knowledgeable taxi driver/service or equivalent who knows the 'Nong Wua So' region of Udon Thani as i wish to get a lift to wat tham sahai shortly (before rains retreat starts).

Can anyone recommend a reliable and competent taxi driver (hire service) familiar with the south west part of Udon Thani, or maybe familiar with the various forest temples?

they would need to speak a little english too. a phone number or email would be great.

    many thanks

  4. i bought two online from this thai website. http://www.overzeas.net/28-leatherman arrived nicely packaged. maybe people can compare the price (980B) to retail shops they have seen them at. it did take a little while but it was out of stock at that time so had to be shipped from the USA first. overall very happy with the service.

it would be cheaper to buy while overseas but i travel 'carry on' only so cannot take it onboard (prohibited for obvious reason),.

cheers to you all and thanks for the different excellent ideas. i hope this website may be useful for others.

  5. Which of these books do you recommend? I have download the free lyndonhill website text and also have a copy of the 1995 edition of the paiboon text along with audio.

Do you have experience with both or either of these?

I have a poor understanding of grammar as it was taught when I went to school, so I would life the one which has the simplest, clearest explanations.

I like how both are quite comprehensive (there are another two books in the paiboon series as well as

audio) while lyndonhill text is one large text.

They have very different transliteration systems, I have become familiar with both.

I need a comprehensive guide as I will be staying in a forest Temple.

If you think the is a better alternative I am all ears. I wont have Internet access.

    Cheers

  6. I intend to buy one for a monk but am having trouble locating them in Thailand and the cost of delivery from Amazon makes it too expensive (delivery costs are more than the pocket knife - the squirt PS4 model).

Do you know where/how can i buy one in Thailand? Maybe you can recommend an excellent camping shop or maybe there is an online store in Tthailand that stocks these items.

    thanks in advance

  7. Hi

The first time i went to laos for a border run i didnt know i had to pay for the visa in usd and got raped when i handed over THB instead. this time i want to go prepared with some USD currency. Can someone recommend a place or two for me with good exchange rates, say either a consistently good bank or somewhere else?

  8. Hi

Presently I am staying in Udon Thani but will be attending a wedding in bkk on saturday morning and will have a short amount of time on sat and/or sunday and hope to buy/browse a good thai language bookshop and also a camping shop. I want to get some books and maybe some tapes as i have limited internet access. I am also looking for a lightweight small self standing mozzie net with a good ground sheet as well as a leatherman pocket knife as a gift.

The hotel i am staying at is: Avana Hotel and Residence, 900 Moo 12 Bangna, Trad Road Km 2

    location of hotel is: http://maps.google.co.th/maps?q=%E0%B9%82%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%87%E0%B9%81%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%A1+%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%A7%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%B2+%E0%B8%9A%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%B2&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=13.669673,100.620153&spn=0.011843,0.01929&view=map&cid=4918354806398639332&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A

    any suggestions greatly appreciated

  9. I suppose another approach might be to put everything you have into a single savings account and watch as the interest is paid (usually monthly) and then switch the account to another account or bank before you reach the 20K limit. The most effective solution though is to do what you're doing presently, you've got the benefit of the higher rate, it's fixed for a defined period, plus, you get your tax back, that's a win win scenario with only a slight inconvenience of having to deal with the tax folks.

Most savings a/c are paying 6-monthly interest, no?

The underlying concept for the different treatment for fixed and saving is that its assumed that only wealthy people have fixed accounts - therefore tax all, and let the energetic folks go claim the deduction.

There is also a little known catch - all though in reality I'm not sure how many banks actually follow the rules, - that says - if you have a standing order between your accounts, e.g. an automated instruction that regularly passes an amount from your saving a/c to your fixed a/c., then the tax will be charged on the saving acct (the source of funds a/c) from the beginning - the 20k allowance doesn't apply.

So the best thing to do to minimize tax and optimize returns is to open a daily trading money market fund and keep any surplus liquidity in there; and keep the minimum balance in your saving a/c.

I've got two savings accounts that pay interest montly, Thanachart Bank and BAY - I've also got a KMoney money market account that posts intrest daily and that works well as you've described, I prefer a combination of the two however..

    Hi guys

there is some great info here, and i am hoping to tailor it for my personal needs. there are heaps of forums/posts on here on TV but i am struggling to find the relevant one.

i am looking to open an account while travelling around before deciding where to settle down.-north or north east most likely.

Could you recommend a bank that has no fees for cross province atm access, and possibly an attached daily trading money market account mentioned by aurelius to maximise the interest. i will deposit north of 600K Baht to start with and take it from there.

    cheers

  10. I am staying at one Temple now and discovered a tent and it is great to use including keeping unwanted guests but not ideal for summer as it has minimal ventilation which is a must.

I am looking for a small light weight tent that i can easily carry with me. I will be staying in forest monasteries and need a self standing mosquito net but with a rain protection too, hence a tent.

I have a self standing mosquito net that you use for just sitting in but now realise I need to lie down too.

Any suggestions appreciated where I can purchase one.
