  1. I find it very hard to find my sizes XL here in CM, maybe better you buy it Texas

You can find XL everywhere, the trouble is they are XL Thai, which means they might just fit a 10 year old person from Texas.

I learned that the last time I was in CM, shopping in Airport Plaza.

  2. Now, If I can stop messing around with monkey bikes and buy something large enough to justify wearing the leather hahaha

:D in due time. I would eventually like to get a VMAX. Key word eventually. I'm sure a CBR 150 will be along the way. I'm more of a cruiser-style. I also like the Boulevards. I'll settle for a Shadow or V-Star along the way.

  3. Just out of curiosity, how hard is it to find farang-friendly jackets in CM? I wear size XL (American sizes, if that makes a difference), wide shoulders/muscular. And how much would a decent jacket run? A local shop here in Texas is having a sale. I can get one for $90. Not sure if I should get it & bring it with me or wait to get one when I arrive.

    Thanks!

  4. ...just how much of the 8 GB disk is available for user apps and other content.

According to one news report on that I read today after a lot of searching/reading, the available user data space is just a bit over 5 GB....

So basically, I came to conclusion that for me, if I was going to be buy, I'd expect to be shelling out the $249 amount for the 16 GB model.

I have the 16 GB, and it had a little over 13 GB open. I think that $50 is a small amount to more than double your actual space, hence I got it.

As far as the screen is concerned, it is plenty bright, super clear, awesome resolution. Although I haven't compared it to the new iPad, I think I would be comparing apples and androids, er, oranges.

  5. I have the Nexus 7 (see below). I'm still messing around with it so I can write a review. So far, I love it. I got it the morning they were released, as I pre-ordered it from GameStop to guarantee I got it ASAP.

It's WiFi only because it's meant to compete with the Kindle Fire. It is definitely on the top of 7in tablets regarding hardware. Its downfall of lacking a card slot is irrelevant because its intended use is with Google Play, which streams TV and movies, not downloads them. A rear-facing camera is also nonessential. Do you know how goofy people look when they take pictures with a tablet? Especially a 10 incher! So far I have only downloaded a couple games. Graphics are amazing.

In the US, free WiFi hotspots are super common, so it makes more sense over here. I'm not sure about availability in Thailand, however I will most likely be bringing one to my friend when I come to CM in a couple weeks (if they're in stock when he orders it). If you want an relatively inexpensive 7in tablet with card slot and 3g capabilities, then I'd go with the Samsung. Also, I think Acer has a similar device.

  6. I, too, am looking into insurances. First off, I have no experience so I am no expert. But what about getting personal accident insurance for motorbikes from a Thai company? Is this in outrageous, unrealistic thought?

And how long of a stay would merit getting Thai health insurance? I'm from the US, and we don't have state insurance (yet). So i'm not worrying about US insurance + international/traveler's insurance + motorbike accident coverage, just looking at getting Thai health + personal accident.

Could a less-expensive, viable alternative for the OP be Thai health insurance and personal accident insurance? I guess it would depend on the OP's age/health conditions. OP, could you include some details to help aid in getting you a better solution?

  7. What about recommended vaccines for adults? I'm still in the US, but I'll be in LOS in 3 weeks.Last time I came, 5 years ago, I got Hep B and Yellow Fever (I believe) because I was also travelling to Thailand.

This time I will only be in Thailand, save for visa runs, and primarily in CM. Should I get them in the US, wait until I get to LOS and possibly save some $$, or just not worry about the shots?

What are the suggested/necessary vaccinations/inoculations/etc. for living in LOS? I'm particularly interested in what Sheryl has to say.

Sorry for bumping up an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new thread only to be directed to this one or another similar.

    Thanks!

  8. In a phone conversation with an American friend in CM this morning, he mentioned that he heard of a recent law(?) that requires at least one native English speaking (NES) teacher per school. He didn't tell me his source or to what type of "school" this pertains to. I hate to be one of those "i heard from a friend that heard..." posters, but I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of this claim's validity and to what extent/domain it covers, i.e. school types.

  9. I live a soi north of Hauy Kaew Rd just past of KSK (the Shell gas station). It's near Chiang Mai Lodge and another big condo. My landlady said they told her that all bills locally are being aligned with BKK costs so there will be additional increases in the near future.

I'm thinking about moving to that area (huay kaew residence). I was about to say you have me worried, but I guess it doesn't matter since prices are going up just about everywhere.

  10. When I have previously been to Thailand, I purchased cheap phones to use during my short stays. This time, since I'm moving (to Chiang Mai), I would like to use my current phone, an HTC Inspire 4G w/ ATT. True Move operates 3G on 850, so it will work on my phone.

I would like to know if it's as simple as that- plug in the sim card and go. Or do I need to unlock it or do anything else?

    Thanks, technologically advanced friends.
