British man jumps to his death from expressway
A British man reportedly killed himself on Saturday (April 4) by jumping from an expressway.
Police and officials from the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Police General Hospital, on Saturday (April 4) investigated the body of a foreign man at the Ramkhamhaeng intersection in Bangkok’s Hua Mak district.
Witnesses reportedly told police that they saw the man jump onto Ramkhamhaeng Road from the Sirat Expressway above, where police found a parked Isuzu D-Max pickup truck belonging to the deceased.
The witnesses said they saw the event around 7am but officials could not investigate the body until later in the afternoon as they were preparing protective gears in case the deceased was infected with Covid-19.
From documentation in the truck, police were able to contact the deceased’s wife who reportedly told the police that her husband was a British national and was not infected with Covid-19. His name and age were not disclosed.
She added that her husband had become depressed lately due to losses in his business.
The body was brought to Institute of Forensic Medicine, Police General Hospital for autopsy.

Automatic visa extensions for tourists in Thailand “just a matter of time” - details being ironed out: govt spokesman
The Thai government is continuing to iron out the details of a proposed new policy that would allow tourists left stranded in Thailand to be granted automatic visa renewals.
Speaking to Thai PBS on Friday evening (3 April), deputy ministry spokesman Natapanu Nopakun provided an update on the proposal to grant automatic visa extensions to foreign tourists stranded in Thailand due COVID-19.
He said the government understands the situation and that granting foreigners automatic visa extensions is “in the pipeline”.
Mr Natapanu said the details are “being ironed out” and “frankly, this is on the agenda”.
Mr Natapanu added that the prime minister is aware of the situation but it may take a little time before the policy is implemented.
The proposal to grant automatic visa extensions to foreign tourists came in response to thousands of foreigners forming lengthy queues at immigration offices throughout Thailand in a desperate attempt to renew their visas.
While other countries had waived visa requirements for foreigners left stranded due to COVID-19, Thailand said foreigners had to renew their visas at their nearest immigration office but only after insisting those affected obtain a letter from their embassy.
But it wasn’t just the embassy letter that was needed for people to renew their visas.
Popular Thailand based blogger Richard Barrow recently tweeted that a total of nine separate documents were requested at one immigration office, as well as the “interrogation” of the visa holder’s landlord.
There have also been similar reports from people posting on Thaivisa of immigration offices still demanding housebooks, copies of ID documents from landlords and even a map.
On Friday, Cambodia announced it would grant automatic visa extensions for tourists stranded due to COVID-19.
The interview with Mr Natapanu is from 25:30.

Would it be appropriate to point out that the reason Emirates and Ethiad aren't flying is because the UAE government have stopped all flights through their area?

I know the effect is the same but it may stop people blaming the airlines when it's not actually their fault
The information is provided to us each from the Embassy, we don't compile the list ourselves.

Prayut orders halt to arrivals from overseas to curb virus spread
Dr. Thaveesilp Wissanuyothin
The government is focusing its attempts to curb the spread of the coronavirus on Thais and foreigners entering Thailand from overseas as the 104 new infection cases were reported today with three deaths.
The Foreign Ministry has been assigned to work out measures to restrict their arrivals for the next two weeks, according to Dr. Thaveesilp Wissanuyothin, spokesman of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
Thaveesilp said Thais who returned from overseas and foreign visitors are partly responsible for the continuing rise in the number of new infections.
“Though the number of travelers from overseas has significantly declined, the prime minister believes more need to be done to stem overseas arrivals in order to further flatten the curve,” said Thaveesilp.

British nationals in Thailand wanting to return to the UK should go now, the British Embassy in Bangkok has advised.

British nationals who are still in Thailand but who want to fly back to the UK are urged to register with the embassy as per the instructions below:
International travel is becoming more difficult with the closure of land borders and further restrictions are being introduced daily. We are working to find solutions to this.
If you need to return to the UK but can’t, you can help by sending us the info below:
✅Full name
✅Date of birth
✅Passport number
✅Contact email and telephone number

Tourists get automatic visa extensions
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is concerned that foreigners seeking visa extensions are gathering in their hundreds at Immigration offices each day, said the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Wednesday (April 1).
Deputy ministry spokesman Natapanu Nopakun said the cabinet has responded with a move to grant automatic renewal of tourist visas for visitors who arrived in Thailand after March 1.
The proposal was approved by the cabinet on Tuesday (March 31) and is set to be officially announced.
People who hold other types of visa still need to go visit the Immigration office for extensions.
