  1. Taweechol Horizon is a hidden gem, closer than Doi Saket. Swimming pool, labyrinth, topiary, caged peafowl, ostriches can be fed by hand. Other zoo animals. Museum of Chiang Mai history. Paddle boats and bikes for rent. Very comfortable accommodations onsite. Used to have a buffet on weekends, not sure about that during Covid-19. https://www.tweecholbotanicgarden.com/en/index.php
  2. During the shot of the Naowarat Bridge with the big steel frame, the narrator says it's 2510 (=1967), though the title says B. E. 2010. That's a typo, I figure. Certainly this is a mix of photos from a number of different years. I first set foot in CM in 1978. There were some red pickups, but no tuk-tuk. Lots of samlor, as shown. I love the dialect. I have always been enamored of Kham Meuang.
  3. I'm a Yank, on your side in this. However, I remember the first morning I ever woke up in China, as a tourist in 2000. My first thought was "Why don't they just take back Taiwan?" I was impressed with their industrial power. They have nearly inexhaustible natural resources and soldiers to throw at Taiwan, which is right on their doorstep. The answer is that China calculates a benefit from the status quo. Whether it's in banking or technology or something else, I'm not qualified to say. AUKUS is a step in the right direction, but holding China at bay when they decide to take Taiwan is gonna be tough despite the alliance, due to the resources needed to fight that war from a distance. I hope it doesn't involve nukes.
  4. Yikes! Don't scratch the paint. It's unnecessary. Just push the tires through some mud. Good enough!
  5. Only slightly off-topic: About 40 years ago, a friend's GF told me I was opinionated. That was an eye-opener. I realized that she was right, and since that day, I don't feel I have to have an opinion on every everything. It was liberating to be able to back away and not care about so many things that do not affect my life.
  6. Good idea. Too many people ride mountain bikes and never leave paved roads. That suspension adds weight. Lose it if you're not gonna use it. Also, be aware that there are two kinds of hybrid. Some are heavy, developed around mountain bike frames originally. Then there's the light kind, like a road bike with flat handlebars. The Sirrus from Specialized is a good example. I've had both kinds, used for commuting in Wisconsin. I got tired of the extra weight in 2003, so got the lighter kind (yes, a Sirrus). But lots of brands compete for that segment. Here's a list of nearly all bike shops, by province: https://bicyclethailand.com/information/bike-stores/
  7. You make a good point, if I'm reading between the lines correctly. They would attract just as much foreign currency, and spread the wealth more broadly, by amending their regulations to attract more of us regular Joes of modest means. My 90,000 thousand baht per month from pension funds goes into the local economy. Multiply that by 100 by getting Immigration out of the way, then they don't need the ten million investment by the rich guys.
  8. It's even easier than that. When you get your second jab, you're given a certificate. In the upper right hand corner is a QR code. Point your lens at that QR code using any QR reader. Your pass pops up on your screen. Download it or save a screenshot. Done.
  9. Arguing with strangers on the internet. Wanna fight?
  10. See, the mommy fish keeps her fish eggs very private. When she meets a daddy fish, and they love each other very much, they lie down together and the daddy fish gives his special seed to the mommy fish's eggs, then they grow new baby fish. And that's where all the fish come from!
  11. Headlights! TIT! You don't need no stinking headlights. ????
