  1. Same same Ryanair and similar companies. Ryanair are in Europe too. Not so long ago they wanted to charge people £1 to use the toilet in flight :annoyed: Seats where you stand and do not sit. A cheap nasty airline is simply that.

I thought most people knew about Air Asia and their extras. Many complaints have been made in the Travel section of the Forum.

  2. There is a lot of 'Face' in having a son become a monk even if it is short term. Big party, huge kudos. More power. Better business dealings. Even financial betterment? (not sure on this last one).

A powerful parent can ometimes persuade a son to do his bidding. There is also the point that becoming a monk even if for a short time only can wipe out some past misdemeanours committed.

With regard to being forced to do it. I do not like that idea. Yet this is a different culture. Many do not have the freedoms we are used to. It is possible the son needed the father's influence or money and the father could use this as a way to make him become a monk.

  3. Can you really blame the cloud option for the act of a rogue employee... He could have just as easily have trashed your external drive backup...

I think you missed the point.

Once you start to use any external cloud/network/computer for

    backup, you have LOST CONTROL...........

You place your data in anothers hands at your own risk,

whether it be from malicious acts, hacking, going out of business, etc, who knows what. :bah:

I totally agree with Astral on the point of losing control. Better to have your data stored on a device you have control of.

Over 10 years ago i had some data stored with some company on the internet. Data I did not want to be discovered on my computer because it was sensitive and also evidential. That data was lost when the company literally disappeared overnight. Luckily not before I was able to utilise the data. But many 'accidents' can happen to data stored beyond your own control.

  4. At Tucom yesterday I bought an Acer External HDD 500GB for 1990 Baht. Seagate and other known drives seem to have risen by 500 Baht since I bought one a couple of months ago.

There were other models available but not names I recognise. One of which was a 500 Gb under 2000 Baht also.

    Tuk.com where - in Pattaya?

    Which dealer?

Yes, Pattaya. Had two Acer units.

JJIB. 3rd (?) floor at the back.

  5. why is that that a guy wants to beat up or kill the guy involved with his wife or girlfriend ?

he cant shag her unless she lets him and he cant know shes married unless she tells him. i have never understood why a guy wants to beat up the lover.

it would be difficult for most men to walk away from a beautiful woman if she offers it on a plate.

surely the women are at fault in these situations and not the guy.

    +1

  6. Nobody's mentioned the Removable Hard Drive Mobile Rack solution.

    http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817994062

I have a couple of these (different brand) I bought at Panthip for moving a drive between computers. In case of emergency, I can grab it out and run. Very handy.

I have a couple of external USB drives that come in handy sometimes, but I don't like them as they are comparatively slow and of questionable reliability in general.

With USB 3.0 external HDD are a lot faster now.

I usually let the system back up whatever files I need when I am either watching television, in the pub or in bed so no time lost.

All down to one's own preference :)

  7. If this was sent to your Thai Visa Inbox, why don't you tell the Mods the senders User Name so they can block him?

    Patrick

Indeed, if it was a PM let us know the senders username, he won't do it again. If it was an email there's not a lot we can do about it :(

I posted this in the Forum support desk because it is in my TV Inbox. From wilosco1 user_popup.png That is why I mentioned about maybe TV not being happy at TV members getting these messages. Obviously I did not make that clear enough at the time but I was tired after a visa run to Cambodia.

Personally I would not fall for a scam like this but some people do and that was why I posted it.

  9. Sorry to hijack this although it is in a similar vein, what to do with clothes that are worn out? Simply leave them for the bin man or the bin scavengers?

To the OP, congratulations on you sparing a thought for others :) Many people would not even think to do so. Out in the sticks I have seen many children and older people walking round in old tattered clothes because that is all they have.

Add to that I have seen a few market stalls where they have acquired second hand clothes and tried to pass them off as new so a responsible place for donations is always welcome to make sure the donations get to the right people.

  10. I use to think

the pvc is for transport only and that it should be removed for using.

While sleeping, we "produce" a lot of water (sweat) and this water needs to go somewhere .....

if you do not remove it, there is a good chance there there will be mold (แม่พิมพ์) after some time...

Yes - another main purpose for the mattress, is to absorb your sweat and let your skin breathe during your sleep.

PVC covered matresses is for children and older people who is likely to wet the bed.

On the other hand a quilted mattress like I had before this one would soak up the sweat and semen stains and other bodily fluids that will soak through the sheets.

Sweat alone can make clothes stink, so what might that do to your mattress after a while and then the other bodily fluids too? Look at a pillow for example and how easily they get stained from perspiration. You can see the marks on a pillow. You can also wash a pillow, you cannot wash a mattress. 1 year on, 2 years on even 5 years on all those fluids .... :bah:

Apologies for using the term UPVC in my original post as well. was a brain error ;)

  11. Here it is, from my inbox. Can we have these stopped please? Not that they are hard to ignore, but are a nuisance. Maybe others are getting them too?

Also not something TV approve of, I am sure. Apologies if this is covered elsewhere.

  12. There is a little bit of Tongue in Cheek there.

The fact I bought one and had a good nights sleep and awoke with no back ache makes it a statement :)

Maybe someone is looking for a mattress on a budget. If so they can pop down to Pattaya Thai and look for themselves.

  13. My old mattress is battered, beaten and bruised. Totally shagged out you might say :whistling:

While I was out on the m/c on Pattaya Thai I saw some mattresses on offer under 2,500 Baht for King size. Surely they had to be cheap and nasty at that price. On enquiring I was informed they had minor damage to one corner. More like a scuff mark to be honest and easily covered over by a fitted sheet. Covered in UPVC, firm and thick, I tried one out. They do seem very good and at 2,490 Baht inc delivery I cannot find fault with it. I had a great nights sleep last night and woke with no back ache this morning.

The shop did not have many in stock.

An added benefit of UPVC coating is that it will be stain free  A quick wipe down and it should be clean.

  14. Yes, security and safety. An portable backup insures that the backup can be moved off site in case of disasters (fire, flood, etc...). A portable solution insures that the backup can be isolated from the system.

    +1

I have 2 portable hard drives. An Iomega 320 GB and a Seagate 500 GB. Both USB drives.

After the total loss of 1 internal drive with 3 years worth of photos and movies + other data on it I now make back ups to one of my portable drives. The other portable drive is used to back up all my UK tv progs and movies. They are small and very handy too if I want to take data back to the UK or anywhere else for that matter.

Going on holiday with the laptop computer and leaving the tower system behind I can take my external data with me too and simply plug it into my USB on the laptop.

  15. The Thai side check your passport for your exit stamp from Cambodia. No exit stamp = no entry to Thailand :)

I agree that is what is required, but i have never seen them check. I have entered Thailand at Poi Phet and Klong Yai at least 8 times. My passport has had pages added 3 times and almost every page is full. It would take them more than 5 minutes to search for and find the most recent exit stamp from Cambodia. I am through in less than 10 seconds every time. They may check some, but I do not think that they check all. I think that the worst that could happen is that they'll send you back and you'll waste an hour.

Even if they don't check every passport, they can still make random checks. Why risk it?

If you ever cleared Cambodia immigration at Poi Phet, you would not ask this question! It depends on the risk and the consequences of them checking and not finding an exit stamp from Cambodia in your passport. If you want to pay $20+ for the thrill of clearing Cambodia immigration, be my guest. I have never tried the "straight back into Thailand" route, I go to Cambodia for holidays, but I suspect that some have done it successfully.

I did try it once. just to see what would happen. The Thai side checked my passport and found no entry / exit stamps. I feigned ignorance, was sent back and I got my entry / exit stamps. Back to Thailand no problem.

I would add that my passport was almost full at that time yet they still checked every page.

Nowadays I get the E-visa online that avoids the financial negotiations on the Cambodian side at Poipet
