When money is transferred from oversees there is something called a "credit advice" that comes in. Your bank HQ will have it.

Even though I use the 800K method my Imm office requires proof the money came from overseas, I get that in a bank letter and for that I have to show the bank the various credit advices. They then include the details in their letter, describing briefly each transfer.

You can arrange with most banks to have these Credit Advices sent to you routinely. Then when extension time comes around you bring them to the bank and have them include this info in a letter, i.e. Mr X bank account number X has received X transfers from abroad into his account as follows:  (amounts, dates, where from)"

This is what a Credit Advice from Kasikorn bank looks like:

Can you get a Credit Advice when using Bangkok Bank's ACH method of funds transfer rather than bank wire transfer?

  2. Sounds like a lot of "friendly" advice but I can't help finding this a bit suspicious. Hope that's not the first stage of some kind of setup to offer you some extra "protection" from fake or corrupt "low ranking police officers" at a price.

    Maybe I'm just paranoid.

He was a Captain. Have a photograph of his ID. The questions sound similar to what others have been asked.

  3. We recently had a visit by the local cops (Lampang). First time in many years of living here. They had some paperwork from CM Immigration. Said they were instructed to confirm that I am actually living where I stated I was. Wanted to talk with my partner (owns the house I live in). Asked if we owned any weapons, had any enemies, my occupation, and what I like to do in my free time. Checked the entry stamp in my passport. Took our photographs. Suggested we install a video surveillance system on the property. They also recommended, if I am home alone, to not allow anyone claiming to be the police onto the property. They said I should have a friend come over before allowing anyone claiming to be the police onto the property. Also, don't allow any low ranking police officers onto the property. He gave us his phone number, in case we had any problems, and left.

  4. My Thai partner is starting a sole proprietorship selling Thai goods online. I expect most of his customers will be overseas. What exactly does he need to be legal and above board? At what level of sales will he need to pay income tax and start collecting VAT on local sales? What about a fictitious name for the business? Does that need to be registered somewhere? Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

  5. BS. We ship thousands of packages every year around the world. Almost no losses. In the rare occasion of a loss or damage, it almost always happens in the destination country. Especially the USofA. Kudos to the Thai Post for their excellent service.

Yeah, but try sending TO Thailand..

    Also..bubble wrap has discontinued!

As I said, I have been here for over 20 years. I have many items shipped to Thailand. Think I have lost one letter and one parcel - that I can remember - in all those years. According to the tracking, the parcel never actually made it to Thailand.

Of all the other postal organizations we deal with around the world, the US postal Service (slow, lost items, no tracking updates) and Parcelforce in the UK (slow, lost items, don't contact recipients) are the absolute worst.

  6. Been here for over 20 years. Exporting items for the past five years. Ship at least 5 parcels a day. All this time, excellent service from the Thai Post. If I was losing things, I would know it.

Aaah, but does it withstand the thieving proclivities of the Thailand Post staff, I wonder?

seems you are looking with closed eyes, I have had heaps stolen from the post in Thailand, especially valuable things like new credit cards, when I approached the local post office after 2 cards went missing they even admitted it happens and that they cannot stop the postal workers from doing it, I had to get them sent in unmarked plain packaging that had to be signed for before they actually got one to me. Thai post is a night mare

  8. I am sure I read a couple reports here recently of CM Immigration requesting proof of it being filed. I believe one person's wife was fined for not having filed the form. I like to be prepared, and don't want to have to make any repeat visits to immigration - if at all possible. Guess we'll visit the local coppers and see what their response is. Cheers.

  9. Sounds like immigration is starting to check if a tm30 has been properly filed. I'm on a retirement extension and live in my Thai partner's house in amphur Hang Chat, Lampang province. I want him to file the tm30 form in case immigration wants to see it on my next 90 day report or extension. Never been asked before. Can he file this at the Hang Chat police station, or must he do it at CM Immigration (no fun)? Thanks.

  10. I have successfully sent EMS to both Tahiti and New Caledonia. They go via France for some reason. My first attempt to send EMS Tahiti was returned because there was no invoice on the outside of the package. I have since learned this is required for France.

  11. Did my first 90 day report yesterday. Had all the necessary copies and form filled out prior. Parked at Airport Plaza. Walked into the crowded room around 1 P.M. Told the the friendly boy manning the ticket machine "90 day report". He gave me my ticket. Sat next to a nice fellow that gave me another ticket that was one ahead of mine. They called my number 2 minutes later. In and out in less than 15 minutes. Painless. :)

  12. I was diagnosed with a type of lymphoma at Suan Dok. I asked the Doc there where she would go for treatment if it were her; Chula she said. Off to Chula I went. At Chula they asked for the piece that was cut out of me. They diagnosed it as a completely different type of lymphoma, requiring a much more aggressive therapy. Very glad I went to Bangkok. Six years later, I am healthy. Knock on wood. During the treatment I was lucky to have an Oncologist in the USA - that a Doctor friend put me in touch with - that I could email and double check with. He was happy with what they were doing in Bangkok.
