  1. Whats wrong with writing a name on a menu, a newish concept that seems to be catching on. Instead of using pictures to explain things, we learn to use symbols which have equally effective semantic value

    Singha Beer

    Chang Beer

    Like that.

Do you need to see a picture of a bottle to understand what is being offered?

What about a short description after the name,

Singha Beer, Brown bottle, white label with a unique Thai style golden lion on it .

For sometime now the legal age of drinking and adult literacy have enjoyed an interesting and somewhat codependent relationship.

People requiring pictures of alcoholic beverages to make their order are frequently disappointed by the lack of alcohol on offer in nightclubs, bars and restaurants.

I think even canukamuck could understand the logic in this idea?

Unless you come from a non Thai and non English speaking country and you would to have that beer you had last night but do not know what to call it.
What about using your finger to point at the bottle in the fridge?

From your table in the far corner?

If you can't speak or read Thai or English, then yes, your going to have to get off your fat arse, waddle across the vast expanse of the dining area, (take supplies and establish a base camp if you need to)

Find a crane, pay a cooli, or find some other way manage the monumental effort of lifting up you arm and extending a digit to indicate your hearts desire.

I want you to guess which digit I am thinking of right now.

  2. Its the law that taxis should not carry more than 4 passengers.

Unless its a motorcycle taxi- where there is no restriction to passenger numbers, as we've all seen here.

However these morons threats were worthless, immediately the government countered them with a solution of busing passengers to areas where they could catch cabs.

Essentially these robbers want to be able to charge anything they want and they are playing all sorts of games to put themselves back in the good old, bad old days of Don Mueng, when you paid the price asked by the taxi driver at the arrivals gate.

Right now Thailand is experiencing serious economic issues and these thieving toerags are insisting on their rights to over-charge any poor sucker they want.

I say send them to prison for fraudulent charging if they get caught. Ban them from driving taxis for life and see how their families fare when they are in prison for a year.

Going on strike to protest your right to overcharge and break the law- Thainess at its bestcheesy.gif

You forgot the hanging, drawing and quartering.

No I didn't, hangings too good for them.

Seriously, threatening to strike because they can't fleece anyone they like?

    This is beyond nuts

  4. A man's greed is like a snake that wants to swallow an elephant.

    (Chinese Proverb) wai2.gif

This analogy is exceptionally profound, without it, I wouldn't have been able to understand the nature of greed.

Did you think this proverb up or did someone explain it to you?

    How about this

Greed is like a man in a burger shop who orders all the burgers on the menu.

    Is that the same? whistling.gif

  7. 'Finding out where and why the car stopped will give vital information and clues as to the motive behind the bomb attack'

7.20am - Stop at the Mosque, Pray to Allah

9.30am - Stop at 7/11 and trip to the toilet

11.45am - Stop for chicken curry and to call Mr. T Shinawatra (Dubia Number)

13.45pm - Drop off suit at US Embassy

15.00pm - Stop at 7/11 for a pepsi, quick call to Klongsan prison, asking to speak to the ex- Chief of DSI

If only it were this easy?

  8. I would have rather seen the entire Ministry and all administrators investigated and prosecuted for corruption. The remaining "educators" should be evaluated for competence, and mostly terminated, not transferred.

So education reform idea 1. Sack all the teachers?

Whats 2? - Close the schools and chain kids to factory tables

I have to ask did Zaphod really think this idea through?

  9. The director of my school asked us foreigners firmly to step forward with ideas to improve the overall performance of the school. When some of usdid, the standard answer was that things are not done that way in Thailand.

just a hint of the school would be nice?

    Udom Suksa?

  10. Is it just me or did we get the same story from the Koh Tao murder investigation?

What police force on earth knows the identity of a terrorism suspect and doesn't detain them?

Either they have nothing and they are trying to scare the pigeons with this story, or they are willing to expose the general public to risks of further terrorist actions whilst they 'gather evidence'.

Whatever spin they put on this is wrong. Take him into custody and all his family and friends and interrogate the bejesus out of them all.

  11. Solid comedy gold,

What happened to the pointy pics showing us where the bodies used to be?

This poses an interesting question, is there any crime if there are no victims?

Habeas Corpus is a simple concept in law

  12. First of all: about time!

Second of all: step in the right direction!

[email protected] I rip your throat on that comment...care to explain?

Like everyone told you, it's a sarcastic remark aimed at the inadequacy of this policy to deter kiddy fiddlers. Losing their license to operate should be the least of their problems.

I'd reserve a special place in hell for these creeps. I wouldn't deport them either. Thai prison is far worse than uprooting and moving these pond scum on to fresh pastures.

It's a shame some people are too retarded to stop abusing children and to get sarcasm when it's so frequently in evidence on this site.
