  1. On Tuesday my lawyer in my home country (nanny state) is representing me in a speeding fine and I might have my driving licence disqualified.

Does anybody know if its possible to obtain an International driving licence in bangkok? Can I do this if my licence from home is disqualified or suspended.

If I drive or ride a motorcycle in thailand and have an accident then my travel insurance might not cover me on a disqualified licence.

Any thoughts or help with this is much appreciated.

  2. Triple entry visa question….The facts are as follows:

-07 DEC 2011: issue date of tourist visa valid for three entries into Thailand; must be used before 06 JUN 2012

-17 DEC 2011: your arrival in Thailand, with permission to stay until 14 FEB 2012

-Prior to the 14 FEB 2012, I applied for a 30-day extension of stay at the local immigration office, using form TM.7, and my permission to stay was extended until 15 MAR 2012.

-On the 13 MAR 2012, I did a border run to activate your second entry into Thailand. I received again permission to stay for 60 days to the 11th May.

-Tomorrow on the 11th May I intend to get another 30 day extension which will take it to the 9th June??

    Questions:

    1. It looks like the expiry date is the 6th June. Tomorrow will immigration still stamp me 30 days to the 9th June?

    2. Does it mean that I have to do a border run 1 day prior to the expiry i.e. on the 5th June to activate the third and last entry into Thailand. Will I be able to get a final 30 day extension? Is this all legal and ok to do this?

    3. If the answer is yes to question 2 then will I have to fly out of Thailand to Laos and apply for another triple entry visa? Do they issue triple entry visas to Australian passport holders. Basically I want to repeat the above process and stay long term in Thailand like this? Is this possible?

    thanks

  3. I ended up taking a bus from the Southern bus station in bkk for THB347 (first class ticket). It was good service and think that I got 5 min sleep when we were just rolling into Chumphon at 5am. Paid THB50 for the share taxi to the pier and then the boat mafia guy charged me THB850 for a boat ticket to Koh pganang. It was all painless and worth it having left the big city 9pm the night prior and arriving on the island at midday the next day. All is good...

  4. HI there,

I want to travel from Bangkok to Chumphon. Stay one night and then get the boat to koh tao / koh pangnang

Train from Bangkok? Is it reliable? What time does it depart from bangkok?

Govt bus from Bangkok? What bus station and what times does it depart in the mornings

    many thanks

  5. Hi there,

Im currently looking for a teaching job in Bkk or pattaya- most likely in a government or private school only as I don't think that an International school is possible based on my experience / qualifications.

It is my understanding that most government and private K12 schools were in session until around 9 March 2012. Academic year 2012 will start around 14 May 2012 although many foreign teacher will probably start on 1 May 2012 doing prep work.

My strategy at the moment is looking for work via agencies and hitting the pavement. This week I had an interview at a school 2 hours on a bus from where Im staying in central bangkok and they really liked my demonstration in front of 30 kids and offered me the job that day. I declined due to the location.

In the next couple of weeks I was intending to hit the pavement more and visit the schools around this area of Bangkok that I like. This leads to my question... Between now and the beginning of May do the schools completely shut down with no staff i.e. no director or principal? Am I wasting my time visiting the schools in these coming weeks? Will there be any 'decision makers' at the school during the holidays?

When is the best time for me to seriously looking for work if I want to start around the 14th May in a new job?

    many thanks

  6. New teacher- 23yrs old teaching in BKK

    Hi there,

Im a 23 yr old guy from South Africa, new to BKK and currently searching for a teaching job. Questions:

    1. I heard a rumour that because Im under 25yrs old I cannot work at a thai government school. Is this correct? Does it mean that I 100% cannot apply for any teaching positions at government schools in thailand?

    2. I have no prior experience as a teacher, however I hold a linguistics degree from south africa and a Tesol qualification. What are my chances of getting a good job at a private International school in BKK with no actual prior teaching experience?

    3. What sort of money per month could I expect to get for my first teaching job- approx?

    Many thanks

  7. Hi there,

I do not have my own apartment yet and wanted to know if there is a private mail box that I can rent in BKK somewhere? In the UK they have MBE (mail boxes etc) where you can rent a mail box.

    Any info is much appreciated

  8. I have a tripple entry tourist visa as follows:

07 DEC 2011: issue date of tourist visa at brisbane consulate valid for three entries into Thailand; must be used before 06 JUN 2012

17 DEC 2011: my arrival in Thailand, with permission to stay until 14 FEB 2012

Not later than 14 FEB 2012, i need to apply for a 30-day extension of stay at an immigration office, using form TM.7, and thus permission to stay will be extended until 15 MAR 2012.

The problem is that the local travel agents here in Patong phuket tell me that the immigration office in Phuket town only grant 7 day extensions at their office- not 30 day extensions. They are trying to tell me that I have to travel to the boarder at Penang in malasia to get a 30 day extension.

Does anybody know if this is correct or not. Or does the Phuket town immigration issue 30 day extensions?

    many thanks

  9. Thanks so much for the advice from everyone. I definitely now understand my visa much better.

The timeline that Maestro wrote above was most useful to me. He said ''Best not to wait until the last day; you lose nothing by applying early, as the 30 days will be added to the end of your permission to stay.''

Does this mean that I can go to the phuket immigration office tomorrow (22nd jan) even though its weeks before the 14th feb- and will they still stamp it the 15th March??

Also, if Im able to find a job in the next few months can I revert to the Non imm B visa and then work visa etc

    Many thanks

  10. Hi there,

At a consulate in Brisbane on the 7th december I paid for a multiple entry tourist visa but I do not understand how to use this visa basically....

The consulate stamped it with the following dates:

    - It says the visa is good for THREE journeys and must be used by the 6th june. I flew into bkk on the 17th december.

    - Immigration at the airport stamped my passport with the 17th dec and Im admitted to until signed: 14th February.

Thus, the end of the first 60 days is on the 14th February.

    Questions:

    - Do I do a border run on the 14th feb to extend for another 60 days OR

    - another traveller I met said I could maybe go to an immigration office on the 14th Feb and pay to get a 30 day extension.

Then at the end of the 30 days do a border run to get the second 60 day stamp.

Could someone please explain if Im able to get a 30 day extension and then do the border run or do I have to do a border run on the 14th feb?

    many thanks

  11. Hi there,

I have 3 uni degree's and want to know if its necessary to do a 4 week Tesol course and pay $1500 in order to get a teaching job in bangkok. I would prefer not to do one obviously and any advice is appreciated. Ive heard that some schools do not need a tesol.

Are there any issues with this in getting the work permit / teachers licence if I dont have a Tesol certificate?

    thanks

  12. Hi there,

I write to ask some questions re applying for a student visa.

Im 41 yrs old and would like to apply for a student visa to enable me to live in bkk for a yr or so. Questions

    1. Should I apply for this in oz before I depart

    2. If so, Im assuming I would need to enrol in a course and pay for it before hand?

    3. If I arrive in bkk 1st dec on a 30 day tourist visa. Find a course to enrol in and pay for it. Then go to philippines for a month, can I apply for the student visa in Manila

    4. Is applying for a visa in Manila easy and hastle free?

    5. If I successfully obtain a study visa to study thai language (for example), are they strict on attendance? i.e. if I dont attend classes can I loose my visa or get in trouble with immigration as I would be in breach of the visa?

    many thanks
