Large numbers of police are being shot as we speak, check REUTERS.

    What would China do?

Other states are reporting some shootings.

There was Tianamen Square in the past but as far as I'm aware China didn't  send in troops to confront the HK protesters. Imagine the uproar from the USA and western powers if they had. I wonder if any countries will raise the treatment of US protesters in the UN. Maybe China will impose sanctions ?

Amazing how hypocritical the US is. Supports protests in Hk but not in USA. Threatens sanctions etc if China imposes national security laws in Hk but is ok using the military against protesters in the USA.

  3. Hi Offset. Thanks for your help and for the UK phone number.

I have all the documents (UK birth certificate, UK passport) to show I am a UK born citizen and I am named on my daughter's birth certificate. However the instructions state the declaration section of the passport application must be signed by someone with parental rights. To avoid any problems I thought it best to have the mother sign the declaration. It also provides proof that the mother agrees with her daughter having a UK passport.

  4. I have a question about the application form for my daughter's first UK passport.

I am not married and have not yet been through the court process to be officially recognized as my daughter's father. Therefore I have no parental rights in Thailand. Accordingly I was going to have my daughter's mother (Thai) sign the declaration in the application form. Her normal signature is in Thai script.

Does anyone know whether Thai script is acceptable or should she sign in English which is not her normal signature?

Sorry for the obscure question but I would prefer to do it correctly.

    Thanks

  5. Just done 90 day reporting in Patong. Very quick service. Lady asked me for 100 baht. I said first time I have ever been asked for money for reporting. The head man was called over. I asked whether it was an official charge for reporting going forward? He told me it was a "service charge". I asked whether he would give me a receipt. I was told to leave. I didn't pay.

I walked down Bangla - 1 slow Loris, about 15 time share touts no change there yet.

  6. Thank you very much for the suggestions I will get on to it on Monday.

Yes you are probably correct about the house not being earthed. I have had the occasional shock from the oven and microwave in the past but have just got a new dishwasher with a stainless steel door. It seems to be "live". I can open the door using a dishcloth without any shock but if I use my bare hand I get zapped. The poor cat made the mistake of rubbing up against the door - it won't do it again.

I will unplug it until it can be checked by an electrician.

    Thanks again
