  1. Just trying to get some ideas together, I work in construction here in UK so I know I can't do that sort of work in LOS

Open a bar in Pattaya or Phuket...sure fire business plan in Thailand, never fails...

Yeah I could construct my own bar in both places, a surefire winner no doubt :-)

  2. Ok thanks guys, I wasn't aware of the other indentical thread!

I'm thinking online gambling when i come back to LOS, i do ok here in the UK with it, I know it's illegal in LOS so maybe thats a no-no.

I have seen countless Thais betting on English football at the net cafe's on previous visits to LOS ??

  3. It still baffles me as to what the UK gets for the countless billions we needlessly pour into the EU every year? Plane loads of immigrants taking jobs, houses, putting a strain on critical services like the NHS..

Do you read the Express or the Mail ?

No I'm not that naive to base my opinions on what I read in any newspaper, I see with my own eyes, my home city of Edinburgh has completely changed now thanks to unchecked immigration, it was nice at first to have 'some' new people in the city etc...But now It's gone crazy, locals can't get jobs, schools are full with non English speaking kids ??

South of the border I believe it's even worse, but in the day of politcal correctness gone crazy I must be a racist if disagree with mass immigration in this country, you can't even ask for a black coffee nowadays without being labelled racist!

  4. Quoting Pedzie.

It baffles me as well. But the 30% of UK citizens who actually bother to vote still do so for the same parties in the vain hope that things will eventually improve. Things in the UK will have to get a lot worse before voters seek an alternative means of governance. Countries in the EU such as Denmark are beginning to see the light and are voting accordingly but the people of the UK will vote how their media tells them to. The UK media is owned by global organisations.

    I couldn't agree more....

  5. Only 1 strong economy in Europe and that is Germany, if Germany stays strong then the weaker economies will stay weaker, it can't work any other way.....

And just how long will German taxpayers tolerate bailouts??

I agree with whoever said about this being a blow to the NWO order plans for global governance, it's true, and the whole Euro EU thing has been in the pipeline for DECADES....

The whole financial mess worldwide was engineered, by greedy bankers who really control the world, US presidents and British prime ministers are selected not elected...Obama's administration is all about WALL STREET....

Back to what effect the euro troubles will have on Thailand, quite a lot i would imagine...same as anywhere else in the world

  6. Yermanee :jap:

For years and years Charles de Gaulle did everything he could to keep Britain out of the "Common Market" as it was called. Sadly Britain eventually got in.

Britain would have been far better off being like Norway and backing off and staying well away from the debacle that is the EEC and the madness that is the common currency.

IMHO I hope these countries are thrown out of the Euro. Sweden Denmark and by sheer good luck Britain opted out.

Yeah very nice of Mr De Gaulle, he seems to have had a very short memory ;-)

The UK economy was not suited to join the Euro when it was introduced (thank god).

The only certain thing when the Euro was introduced was that it would be a disaster for some countries or would collapse completely, one size fits all interest rates for very differing economies???

It still baffles me as to what the UK gets for the countless billions we needlessly pour into the EU every year? Plane loads of immigrants taking jobs, houses, putting a strain on critical services like the NHS.. Some people say it's all about trade, if the UK left the EU tomorrow then every single EU country would sign a free trade agreement with the UK immediately, so why the hell are we in this undemocratic illegal ' union'

  7. That new bunch of ministers ..lol ..oh you've got to love them..travel insurance..for a tourist from a Thai company - The claim will be forgotten as soon as the plane takes off. If they want quality tourists then they need some quality attractions. Not bemoaning Thailand, but its worn out and tired, the once famous beaches are a mess of low quality development gone crazy, the temples are knackered, crowded (but still a pleasant day out) and the National parks are shrinking by the day, lacking species coupled with a grossly biased two tier entrance system and as for the scams and other tourist <deleted> - When I leave I sure as hell won't return as a tourist. Good luck

I agree, also Thailand should spend some serious money upgrading it's infrastructure and come up with fresh idea's to combat pollution in the major tourist hotspots and the country as whole, without doing this i find hard to believe Thailand can keep attracting more tourists year in year out

  8. Not such great questions as so many Indians have been THAI NATIONALITY for so long. Who knows what the immigration laws were like so long ago when their ancestors came here but they became Thai, just as so many CHINESE immigrants did as well.

Funny you mention the Chinese immigrants, I watched a docu about the plight of the sea gypsie's in Phuket last week, they are being forced to relocate due to the expansion of hotels etc on the Island, such a shame really.

As you refer to the variety of Chinese that sought life in Siam by the 1850s through the 1890s, it's still rather vague as to the "legal" status that the Mongkut and Chulalongkorn eras place upon these newcoming populations.

Needless to say, they had immediate social, political and economic impact and influence - as they do today.

I've known more than a few Chinese/part-Chinese contemporaries that have suggested that their ancestors just came......set up camp, became networked, sometimes marrying a local [Thai] - without official cause nor concern.

I noticed on Koh Pha ngan there was a lot of ethnic Chinese people, i wasn't aware of this until i stayed on the island for a few weeks, i never expected this at all, i thought Thailand was just Thai's, it's such an interesting country, much more still to learn :-)

  10. The few i have spoken to are from India, a few being 3-4.

But thanks guys, I just never thought that Indians or Bangladeshi's would have been in Thailand for generations.

    Learn something new everyday.

    Thanks again

  11. Hi I'm a newbie, I have been reading the forum for a few months now and I have learned a lot from the topics etc, Thanks in advance :-)

1 Question tho, Do all the Indian tailors i have come across on my travels in Bangkok-Pattaya-Samui have a work permit or a residence permit ? I'm just curious as i have read on here and other places that obtaining a work permit is difficult for many people, even farang beer bar owners aren't allowed a work permit if they own a bar.

So how come so many Indians have these tailor shops and they work in them themselves and employ no Thai nationals ??
