Electricity takes the path of least resistance which may not be the shortest path.
True, and I guess this is what I meant.
If this Mast was made out of Rubber then it would have found an easier but longer way.

Wow, some very lucky people indeed! I wonder if the mast was fitted with some sort of lightning rod? If so it could have saved these people's lives.
A Lightning Rod works Great on Land but not on the Sea. It is very dangerious to be out in the water in a boat during a Lightning Storm.
As we all know Lightning looks for the shortest path to the Earth. Water is a good Conductor of Electricity. So the shortest path for the Lighning to go is the Yacht's highest point, which is the Mast, then through the Yacht and water, to reach the Earth.
For sure you are right in that these people were lucky to not be part of this electrical current from the Lightning.

I disagree with the definitions, I think a person who works overseas for a limited period of time and then returns home is a secondee, someone who is seconded, that is not to say that person cannot be an expat also.
As for retirees not being expats: I don't believe that work is a key element of being an expat although the intention to return home at some point might be.
I think the difinition of "Expat" is very clear and easy to understand.
Any person living in a country that is not there original country of birth or nationalization, and is not there on vacation as a tourist, is an Expat. So where you intend to live in the future really has no bearing on that, or being an Expat now.
I plan to go to Mars one day to live. So does that make me a Martian now?

Just got back from vacation in South Africa, Kenya and Ethiopia last August. I flew to BKK on Ethiopian Airlines. I am from USA with an extension of stay. After exiting the plane they hand everyone a form. I went to the booth with a USA passport and I was not required to give them the form or do anything else. Just went straight on to immigration.
Never heard of that before. Don't see why having a USA Passport has anything to do with not having to have a Yellow Fever Vaccination, when travelling in infected areas, unless you were just in transit.
Are you sure you did not have to provide your Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate? If not, it just seems more likely they missed you by mistake.
-
If you are travelling within Central Africa, (more likely arriving on Ethiopian Airlines) you will have to go to the Medical Center Desk just before Immigration to be approved first. This is just there stamp on your Entry Card and is mainly to check for the Yellow Fever Vaccination.
So before proceding to Immigration, you should get there stamp first on your Entry Card, or Immigration will just send you back, and like they did to me my first time. You need your Completed Form (which they also have blank ones at the desks they provide their) your Passport, and your Yellow Fever Vaccination Card.
Some advice on doing this is to procede to the Medical Center as soon as you possible can, as Ethiopian Airlines usually arrives in Bangkok on the big Boeing 787 (Dream Liner). If you do not hurry you will find yourself behing a large que, as everyone has to go there. Got stuck there once and almost missed my Domestic Flight.
I have been travelling this route monthly for about 2 years now and I had to stop at the Medical Center each trip. So this place is not temporary and is still there.

Well I smoked non-stop for about 45 years and heavy for the last 25 years (4 packs a day) and I quit recently as well (about 3 months now.) I quit Cold Turkey like you did, but I had some help as I was in the hospital for about a month. I don't smoke at all but do take some Nicotine Gum in the morning and a few at night, as it helps me mellow out.
I think my reasons for wanting to quit was different than many. I just felt that Smoking is so Socially Unaccepted these days and harder to smoke anywhere. When I started smoking Doctors in the Hospital used to walk down the hallways with a cigarette hanging out of there mouth. But I travel a lot now and found myself racng to the Business Class Lounge to have a smoke first thiing off the airplane. So my main reason why I quit smoking was that I was tired of being a Slave to the Cigarette.
The huge benefit for me and smoking was that I loved my cigarettes. Nothing better to me than a few cigarettes in the morning with a cup of coffee. Better than sex even! I think anyone who smoked a long time is a liar if they say they didn't like smokng. I still miss smoking sometimes, but I don't have a huge craving to smoke anymore and thus don't.
I never really notice that I gained any big health issues. I suppose I breath better than before but not that noticable. They say food tastes better after you quit, but I never noticed a difference in that either,. Might eat more out of bordem though or just finding something to do with my hands. But can't say I gained a lot of weight yet. I don't smell like cigarette smoke anymore either and my teeth are easier to clean now as well. But nothing great and perhaps why I am a little disappointed about this.
Even 6 months ago I thought I could never quit smoking. I was sure I was a Lifer! But when an opportunity presented itself I took it, and surprised myself. I never promised myself that I would quit for a lifetime as I loved smoking so much. But I m hoping to get a few years away from that anyway, and see what happens after that. I know if I start with one cigarette I would be right back at it again

A country 25 trillion dollars in debt imposed sanctions on a country that has billions of surplus.
Not the best economic advice he has been given recently.
This is a perfect example of what happens when the USA Imports $300 Billion more from China than it Exports to China every year. But this is not the first time China got into a Trade War over a huge Trade Imbalances as they also had one with Great Britian in the past as well.
China was the worlds suppier of "Tea" and by the 18th Centrury was the only supplier, exporting huge quantities to the British Empire. But China's Sovereignty prevented free trade with other countries and prevented foreign merchants from working inside of China. Any and all Imports were heavily taxed and had huge Tariffs put on all these products.
As a result of this by 1820 China was the largest economy in the world with huge surpluses from trade imballances, especially with Great Britian. Something like we see today with the USA. After negotiations failed, this resuted in the Opium Wars with Great Britian where Great Britian imported huge quantities of Opium from India and sold this cheaply in China. As a result many Chinese People got addicted and the Chinese Economy declined be half in 10 years.
A Treaty was eventually signed with Britian. France, and America, in which China agreed to farer tade practices and Hong Kong was given (leasted) to Great Britian to establish a Trading Port and Center for Imports of Great Britian, that was close to China. As China still did not want the Foreignors stationed on China's Main Land Soil. . .

Which is why Trump punished them for abandoning the United States and its workers by giving them huge tax cuts. Maybe he should slash tariffs on Chinese goods instead. At least that would be consistent.
Yes he did give Big Business a Tax Cut, and personally I never agreed to that. But I think this plan was to create more jobs in America, so I guess his intension were good. We only see small parts of the whole picture so maybe by then he was already plannng to cut Free Trade and Create Tariff again. .

Well he knows enough to get elected President of the United States.

I mean we're not talking about sourcing the cheapest faux marble for bathrooms in some shoddy condo tower.
https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/4464412-Trump-Donald-J-2018Annual278.html
And I'm not seeing a "plan" here? Slap tariffs on goods, then what is supposed to happen, exactly? These old jobs just aren't coming back. So consumers will pay more for goods. How does that help anyone, other than the U.S. Treasury?
I guess if you are unwilling to "trust" business leaders, but are willing to "trust" this president, then maybe it is you who is not seeing clearly?
Has the president articulated his "plan" to balance trade to the American public? Has he enlisted the support of the people, Congress, business leaders, economic experts, academic experts, trade experts (other than Peter Navarro)?
Or his he just "winging it"?
BTW, I do understand the appeal that his "winging it" has to the less educated, disenfranchised, older, white, male "base". They see simple solutions to complex problems as "ringing true" for them because real solutions would be too hard for them to understand.
No I do not trust Big Business or there leaders. If they had there way and could run things, everyone in America would be working for Chinese Wages and there would be more Excutives owing Yachts. Othwerwise why do they even pay Chinese Wages to the Chinese, when many of these tires will be sold in America at American Prices?
People seem to forget that not that long ago workers in America worked long hours 6 days a week and yet where paid very poor wages.. Where safety or human life on the job meant nothing. Where there were no benefits like sick leave and pension to the worker. Where if you lost an arm at work to an accident or due to poor malfuctioning equipment, then it was just tough luck for you and your family. That Workers had to fight for each one of these benefits step by step day by day at risk and great cost to themselves, against Big Business.
I never said that I trusted Trump. All that I said positive about him is at least he has the Guts to try and do something, where all the other Presidents stood around with there hands in there pockets and hoped this problem would just go away.
Bringing Good Jobs back to America is no easy task or easy fix, otherwise this would have been done long ago. Even when you are going down the right path and direction it is going to take time to see results. Tariffs do put more money into the US Treasury at the expense of the Consumer, but this is not the main goal of Tariffs. If all the government wanted to do is raise more money on these goods, then all they have to do is add to the Sales Tax, and not get other countries upset at them about these Tariffs.
Tariffs are designed to make home grown products more competitive, by increasing the cost of these Imported Goods. Sure they can make cheaper tires in China than America. But if you put a Tariff on these Imported Tires where now the cost to buy them is higher than buying American made Tires, more people are going to switch to home made tires. Companies are going to produce these tires where they can make the most profit which includes selling the most they can to the consumer.
Yes it takes time to set up camp in American again. But many multinational companies have Manufactoring Plants there already, like Goodyear. So it is a simple switch to increase production in these plants and reduce production in there Overseas Plants.
No there is no easy fix and nobody knows for sure this will work or Tariff even work. But at least somebody is trying to do something about it, where in the past nobody did anything. If America keeps exporting all of its good paying and manufactoring jobs, all you will have left for jobs is Bus Boys, Car Lot Attendants, and Pumping Gas.

You are talking Big Business here! These companies are run by CEO's who are paid Millions of Dollars to do that. These CEO's are paid Big Money and Bonuses to make profits! If that means cutting jobs, or exporting jobs, and thus reducing costs, they will do so. This extra profit also increases the Stock Price so besdies there prformance bonuses, there Free Stock Options become more valuable to them. CEO's care only about Company Profoit and there own Wallets which go hand in hand.
Do you rememeber when the Auto Industry cut so many jobs at there Detroit Factories, that still keeps Detroit in the Red today? Or when Goodyear layed off 12,000 Plant Workers in 1996. Do you recall seeing them go to the government to lobby and complain that American People are losing there jobs?
No! This is because Big Business only cares about Big Business and don't give a Hoot about the American People or the loss of there jobs. If you want to trust them then now this is up-to-you. Notice that many of China Imports from the USA are parts. This is so they can assemble these parts there using Cheap China Labour, and sell these completed units back at a huge profit.

I had decided to give up on responding to your comments as I find your rationale quite strange, but you just sucked me back in (for the last time). This has nothing to do with the cost of hookers in San Francisco or the Gold Rush. Move forward a century or two please.
And I am not confused. Yes I match Trump and China as this is Trumps trade war, most disagree with his concept of tariffs. You are just playing semantics here.
I don't recall stating that Americans will buy less products from China (please don't modify my words and their meaning). And the tariffs will add to inflation simply because they will increase the cost of products that Americans purchase that were imported from China. For your enlightenment, a 25% tariff does not mean a 25% increase in consumer cost. The tariff is added at the point of entry, many steps back from consumer cost.
And more enlightenment for you; many of the products that will be hit with tariffs can not be made in the USA at a comparable/competitive cost. Thus, Americans will have no alternative but to keep buying Chinese made products but at a higher price (= inflation).
China knows all this. They are more calculating than Trump is.
But Trump is such a wild card, aka loose cannon, anything is possible. We'll see.
Bye
I am sorry but you are confused. You keep calling this a Trade War between Trump and China. You seem to forget, or didn't know, that Trump did not get in the White House on his own. He had plenty of backers to do that, including the American People. I appreciate that you have a personal vendetta against Trump, but please don't confuse this with the truth and facts.
This disagreement with China is over the Trade Imbalance the United States have with China, in which they import about $300 Billion more of Chinese Products compare to what China imports from the USA. If the USA doesn't buy less products from China how do you suppose they will level this huge Trade Imbalance? Suddenly Export $300 Billion more in Goods to them?
Not sure where you got that information that most people are against Tariffs? Can you provide a LINK to prove that? But I do know that most Americans are against Exporting Good Jobs to other countries due to them offering lower wages.Tariffs have been around for a long time and they are not something new that Trump dreamed up recently. They were put in place to protect the local industries and to keep them competitive. Whether they work well or not is a another story.
Okay! I give up! Please tell me what "must have products" the Americans can only buy from China and can't buy someplace else? I tried to think of a few but came out empty handed. Since you mention this then I assume you know the answer to these products and can tell us all.
The whole reason why the USA got itself into such a bind now is that most people only cared about buying a product that cost the least, and not consider where it was made. Or that in the process they are Exporting Good Jobs, and there Technology, for this luxury. But people are getting wiser to this these days and I suspect many will support Trump in trying to bring good jobs back to America. As this was one of his Campaign Promises that got him elected.

You have a few valid points. But then ......
Please rest assured, I do not "compare myself with Trump", OMG no. To wit, I am not afraid to self denigrate (referring to myself as a layman in such matters). He, on the other hand, as a braggart, can't do that.
As for billionaires, such status does seem to impress you, I seriously doubt that Trump is truly a billionaire. According to all that I have read, when all is said and done, assets truly valued, Trump brand truly evaluated, debts including all liabilities and contingent liabilities settled, he may not even have a pot to piss in. Remember, he is a master of smoke and mirrors.
And having done more reading since I posted my comment that you responded to, I believe even more so that China will prevail over Trump. China will teach Trump "the art of the deal". Americans will be the losers unfortunately.
I repeat, in Trump speak, "we'll see".
Yes it is hard for me to prove if Trump is a Billionaire or not. As for me to sit down and count all this money by hand, it would take me about 16 years without a break to do so. So for the sake of argument, and me not having to count all his money, lets just call Trump a Multi-millionaire. Which still impresses me.
You seem to be confused about this subject as you always match China against Trump. It is not a disagreement between China and Trump on Trade. It is a disagreement between China and the United States on Trade. This is not a new issue and has been going on for many years. Every other President talked about this subject in the past.
Of course if you want to believe that the American will be on the losing end of this deal by buying less products from China then this is up-to-you. To me it is like saying the Shopkeeper is better off when he has less customers buying his products for sale. But you are entitled to your own opinion and belief, and I respect that.
We will see.

Going back as far as one can in Chinese History and you will find that China has always had Millions of People in poverty living in China. The building of the Great Wall is a good example of that.
I do agree with you in that China would be on the losing end of these Tariffs. That is why the US Dollar increased in value and the Chinese Stock Market fell. But I don't think that these Tariffs will put China in the Poor House either.
You have to keep in mind that Tariffs are basically an Import Tax on Imported Goods and Services. I have heard numbers like 25% Tax being imposed. So the US is not putting an embargo on Imported Chinese Goods. It is still trading with China. It is mearly putting a Tax on them which increases there price
So these Tariff won't stop people from buying these Chinese Products anymore than you not buying some products in Thailand made in the West. But you may buy less and try to buy Thailand Made Products at a reduced price, if you can find them. So the long term goal is the same for the US and hopes people will buy American made products instead, and if they are made available.

23 hours ago, neeray said:This will backfire on Trump and the American economy. He is no match for the Chinese. He is no more capable of predicting the outcome than the basic layman (like me) is.
While I fully support the need to balance trade with China, a diplomatic approach, as opposed to a shotgun, would have been appropriate.
Don't see how this can backfire. People seem to forget that 30 years ago the Americans were still an Economic Powerhouse while China was wrapped up in Communism, and not even trading with the rest of the world. It has only been in the last 30 years due to China changing its econmic policies that it entered the center stage. The USA is buying from China and just like anywhere else, "Man with Money have the Power:.
I also don't see how you can compare yourself to Trump and his knowledge being equal to yours as a Layman, unless you are a Billionaire to, and like Trump is.
A Diplomatic Apporach is fine, but sometimes there comes a time when you have to stop just talking and to take action. This huge Trade Inbalance with China is not something new. It has been going on for several years with no changes, from using this Diplomatic Appoach.
Hell, I remember Ross Perot (another Billionaire) talking about this problem in 1992. It bothered him so much that he decided to run as a Presidential Candidate against George Bush Senior and Bill Clinton, at a huge expense to himself. Sadly he did not win, but did a good showing being the strongest independent 3rd Party Candidate in American History.
So since then we have had Bush Sr for 4 years, Clinton for 8 years, Bush Jr for 8 years, and Obama for 8 years as President. So they have had 4 New Presidents talking to China about this problem for the last 28 years. How many more years of talks do they need to do with China to get this problem solved?
I do feel it is time for the United States to take action against China on Trade. I am not sure if I agree with Trumps Shotgun Approach, and as you called it, but then I am not a Billionaire either.

I am just a Farang who lives in Thailand who tries to get along with my Neighbors by being friendly, courteous, and by following the local rules which are set up to be fare for everyone. I don't create fights or arguments with my neighbors. I don't play loud music or make noise at night time. And I don't leave my clothes in a Public Washing Machine all days so others can't use it.
Maybe you weren't out drinking with the Boys that day but I did notice you did not deny leaving your clothes in the Washing Machine long after they were finished washing. Which was my point.
How would you like it if everyone their followed your rules? That when you came down to wash your clothes you could not as all the Washing Machines were all full of other people clothes just sitting there, with baskets on top from other peoples clothes waiting for them to come back and collect there stuff so they could start doing there washing.
All that I am saying is that to be fare set the timer on the Washing Machine when you wash clothes and be there to pick them up shortly after they are done. I don't think this is asking so much from anyone. But the way some people talk and behave, you would think you are asking for the world. Little things like this can cause resentments and bad feelings with your neighbors.

There have been no reports of CCTV coverage or witnesses claiming that the door was partly open. Therefore, only two people know / knew if the door was ajar or not, and the one claiming that it was has shot the other one dead. So we'll just take her word for it then. (At least one paper is also reporting that she claimed she tried her key on the door but it was already unlocked. If you believe the papers, there seems to be more stories here than the apartment building has, and she goes to a different one each time). On the other hand, two independent witnesses claim they heard knocking, and a woman demanding to be let in, before the gun shots, but another neighbour said she didn't hear anything. Let's see, that's one person, who just happens to be the accused, saying the door was ajar; one person saying there was no knocking or talking before the gun shots, and two people saying there was. Fishier than a fish monger's fish faced fish wife fish fingering a tuna fish's fishy bits in a fish market.
"Critics point to differences between the Dallas Police Department and Texas Rangers records that indicate Guyger's account changed. The police search warrant states that Jean confronted the officer at the door, while the Rangers' affidavit said Jean was across the room when Guyger walked in".
"One law enforcement official has said the evidence so far doesn't determine whether the door was unlocked".
"A neighbor said she did not hear knocking or yelling before the gunshot, which she assumed to be a domestic dispute, and then heard the sound of a woman calling 911".
"Attorney S. Lee Merritt said two people reported hearing knocking and a woman's voice saying, "Let me in," before the shooting".
Okay! So you say all we have is the Police Officers word that the door was unlocked as her and the victim are the only ones that know this. That since she is charged with Manslaughter why should we believer her? That she tried her key to get in, which didn't work.
I don't need the Police Officers word to tell me the door was unlocked. I only have to use some logic and good old common sense. You said she tried her key to a locked door,, and when it didn't work should have been enough proof that she was in the wrong place.
But you fail to mention that these doors are the Card Magnetic Type (from your LINK) and not the solid Car Key Type. So since her Magnetic Card Key would not work on this door, and the apartment wasn't broken into, then how did she get in? She got in and when she inserted her Card Key into the slot and pushed it in, the door open as it was UNLOCKED!
I am not saying that this Police Officer didn't do something wrong. She should have known better and was careless in using her gun and an innocnet person was killed. But this is not Cold Blooded Murder and planned out. It is the reckless death of a person, which in Texas is called Manslaughter, and what she is charged with. Her alcohol and drug content may change that.

So since you have 5 Washing Machines and 3 Dryers, this means to you that you can tie up one or two Washing Machines for the whole day while you go drining, because there are others?
To have so many Washing Machines to be used, means a lot of people live there and need to use them. They don't buy 5 Washing Machines for 5 people to use. So how do you know these other Washing Machines were free to use after you left? I mean since you obviously weren't there to see that? There may be rush hours for people to do there clothes just like there are rush hours for traffic.
-
Sounds like the Lady wanted to use the Washing Machine but couldn't as all your clothes were still in them, and she was forced to wait, and wait, and wait.
You talk about things that Bug You here, but perhaps you should look at yourself and try and figure out what Bugs other people.
What used to Bug Me to no end was people putting clothes in the Washing Machine and then walking away for the rest of the day, making these machines unable to use. Sort of like my clothes are in this machine, so this machine belongs to me now for as long as I want it.
With Limited Washing Machines, and time for people to wash clothes, this is very selfish thinking and also wrong. As you do not own that machine anymore than the next person. You are just granted some time to do your clothes, and not to go shopping then and having a few beers with pals at the local pub.
Your lucky it was not me who found your clothes long washed in the Washing Machine. and you were not there to colect them after some time. I would have just pulled them all out and threw them in a bundle in some corner.
If you want people to do your clothes for you here, and like back home, you have to pay them. If you don't have time to do your washing and can't be there to collect your clothes later, then take them to to the local laundry to do them for you. That cost is cheap. Just don't tie up all the Washing Machines in your building for the whole day, while you venture out to do something elae some place else.

What you fail to mention here is that Goodyear is an American Company which started out in Akron Ohio USA, and not in Dung-Ho-A-Ho China. Even the name Goodyear comes from an American Chemist who developed "Vulcanized Rubber" so that Rubber could be adapted for use in Foot Wear and Car Tyres. So Goodyear would not be relocating from China but rather just going Home.
Simplicity is thinkig that Tyre Manuafacturing is a highy-automated industry with all robots and few well paying jobs. Competitive Pricing, partly due by other companies using Cheap Labour, caused Goodyear to close down 3 Manuafacting Plants in America in 1986 with 2 in Canada and 1 in the United States. From 1926 until this time, Goodyear was a growing and expanding company,. Due to restructoring in 1991, 12,000 Goodyear Employees were laid off, and witout work. If given a choice do you think these laid off workers would care if they had to pay 10% more for New Car Tyres, if they could keep there present jobs?
This is just one example of what has been going on in America for years. Apple Computers also had there start in California USA. They are the worlds largest company by Market Capital. Yet they complain today as the US may put Tariffs on there Cheap Computer Parts made in China by Chinese Hands.
Tariffs do equal the game some were all the other players are using loaded dice. This is because they don't use cheap labour and thus Tariffs keep American Products competitive. The American Consumer will no doubt have to pay more for Imported Products. But if they want to keep America prosperious, they need to bite the bullet sometimes. Tariffs are in a way a hidden Tax that gets in the governments pockets eventually anyway.
Maybe Trump is foolish for trying something like this. But at least he has Guts to try!
18 hours ago, mtls2005 said:Obviously.
So in the short term, American consumers would pay more for their "tyres"? And then what, Goodyear suddenly decides to relocate their tyre manufacturing from China to the U.S.A., where their manufacturing costs will be higher? Or will they relocate to a country which has no/lower tariffs? Tyre manufacturing strikes me as a highly-automated industry, with more robots, and very few workers.
This grade-school, simplistic view of global trends, and a desire to claw-back low-wage jobs is, well, not very well thought out.

So, you turn up at what you think is your apartment, find that the key doesn't work, and, rather than checking the number, instead knock on the door, shout "let me in", and then shoot the guy who opens the door? Nothing fishy about this at all. Apart from everything.
Well actually the News Report says the door to her apartment (or the one she thought was hers) was partly open. So she did not try her key on a locked door. When you stop and think about it, how many times do you check the number on your door to your apartment, if even a number was posted. I find myself only doing that when I spend a night in a hotel, and double check to be sure I have the right room.
She was getting off the Late Shift so it was dark out and who knows what the lighting was like in the hallway. She shot at what she thought was an intruder in the dark. Chances are most people were in bed sleeping aready so who knows what time that one witness said she thought she hear "Let Me In". That could have been her own drunk husbband coming home after a late bender.
I agree this all sounds Fishy. But then a Police Officer who has been on the Police Force for 4 years and no record of anything suspicious, doesn't just come home one day and shoot a complete stranger in his apartment for no reason either, other than perhaps it being an accident. We will see how this all unfolds.

Wave wand. Poof. Magic. All is well.
Maybe just list a couple of the "benefits" of these tariffs?
Other than increased revenue for the U.S. Treasury, I'm not seein' a whole lot of benefits.
Maybe you can peer into the mind of Trump and share what you see?
I don't know.
But Logic would tell me that with Tariffs you would be buying and paying more for a product made outside of the USA that can be made cheaper now in the USA. So as a Producer of this product you are more than like going to set up shop at home now, as it would be cheaper than importing them.
Take Car Tyres for the Automobile Industry. As a Car Manufactorer, you look at Production Costs. If it is cheaper to buy Car Tyres Imported from China, then to buy them from the Local Tyre Factory, you will do so. But if this price has been equalled out or cost more, by Tariffs, you will buy locally. That in turn would create more jobs.
Silicon Valley in California was the original home to Apple, Cisco, Adobe, Yahoo, Hewlet-Packard, Intel, Google, and many others and where most of the the worlds Silicon Chips, (semiconductor) were made. Now it seems most of these are imported from places like China. And the list go on.
The Silicon Chip was invested in the USA. So I do think that the US sells, or gives away, its Technology at too low of a price. Maybe they should do what China did with Tea, and keep them as a highly guarded secret. Instead of giving them to one company who can now increase there profits.
Few people know or ever heard of "John Bardeen". But besides him being an American Electrical Engineer, and the only person who won the Nobel Prize twice, for Physics, he invented the the "Transister". Prior to Transisters Vaccum Tubes were used which are large and bulcky,. The old guys will remember them in there Old TV's.
So Bardeens Invention reduced the size of the equipment needed this type of electric components. Thus you could have smaller TV's for example. But what happened to his invention? Did he become a Billion-Aire?
The Japanese took his invention and made a fortune from it. Sony invented the Transistor Radio which was more popular than TV's in its prime. That is how this muti-billion dollar company got its start. Then they moved on to smaller TV's and so on. to becoe the Sony we all know today. Since then Japan has also taken several other American Inventions and either improved on them or made them smaller. Like the smaller Car for example, which was unheard of in the 60's and 70's. Except maybe for the Mini Austin. .
So maybe it is time for the USA to keep there own inventions and create jobs at home and make money from them, like they used to, and like the rest of the world does today.

"Entering the darkened apartment..." now this doesn't make sense. If the guy was there, why would the room be dark? I hate to say it, but the defense is going to come up with all kinds of "plausible" excuses to get her off.
I agree.
The big issue and missing from this picture is "Motive". For what reason did she have to kill this person in Cold Blood unless it was an accident? So they need to link this death to some Motive or at least her having some involvement with this person, or she will get off of the 1st Degree Murder Charge. But perhaps she still will be charged with Criminal Negligences (3rd Degree Murder) which is a different story.
Is it likely she would try to enter an apartment one floor up from her own, and mistake this as her own? Not Likely! But it is possible! Especially if she has been drinking heavy that night. Lots of Apartments don't have numbers attached to there front doors. I lived in a couple like that. Since this door wasn't locked and was exactly above her apartment, it is possible she went up one extra fight of stairs by mistake and walked to the door she was used to going into. Found her door open when she new she locked it, pulled her revolver, and game over.

True. This is why Pure Water (Demineralized Water) has very low Conductivity when passing a current through it.
So all you need to do now is find a large lake filled with Pure Demineralized Water (which doesn't exist naturally) to put your Yacht on it, so you can sleep restfully knowing that Lightning will not easily pass through this water.
Guess I am just bored to!
