  1. Its all about what you get. Just browsing I noticed that I could buy a 1tb M.2 drive on Amazon for $100 cheaper than I could here in Thailand. This is with import tax and shipping.

Also with items that cannot be found in Thailand many people are willing to pay an inflated price for some things they want. End of Day BritMan its your choice.. but dont hit on Amazon out right.

Some items are pretty extreme. Others cheaper.

  2. I emailed the embassy in BKk. Got the generic reply back but notice the last sentence.

Thank you for your email. The US Embassy’s current income affidavit policies can be found on our website:https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/local-resources-of-u-s-citizens/notaries-public/. We are currently evaluating options regarding the future provision of this document.

  3. This topic has been posted numerous times and obviously what everyone agrees on is that it depends on what you want to do. But also where you are going. I live here full time now past few years but previously traveled to Thailand twice a year for about 30 days each time for about 10 years. The average I would spend during a 30 day visit was around $3000 USD. This was to Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya. I wasnt hitting every go go I came across but I did eat in the mall restaurants etc. and did not pick the most expensive hotels but rather mid range hotels.  I was able to go about and have a pretty decent time off the money I had. If you are on the low end and want to save some pennies then I would suggest at least $1000 a month. This should suffice for basic accommodations and food.  Also for money covering transportation to and fro the tourist destinations you want to visit. I dont think survival was what he was asking about. As of course much less would be needed. I would purchase travel insurance to cover the duration of your visit prior to your departure. You can get some very good hotel deals off the internet. But make sure to do some checking first. There are some really bad places to rent that are very cheap but in the areas you might want to stay. Make sure you read the hotel reviews or ask someone who knows about the place first. I would also just have some extra money saved separately from what you plan to spend while there. In case of emergency, or for some reason you might have to get back earlier than expected or whatever else might come up. This is Thailand. Alot of unexpected things come up.  Your looking for an apartment not a hotel. So I assume you already know the area you want to stay. Alot of hotels offer pretty good monthly rates as well. Not sure how long your staying. More than a month I would look for an apartment as well. Personally I wouldn't think about it for $500/month. But again as everyone says it depends on the person and what you expect to do and how you want to live while here.

  4. Turns out that I already knew the Village Head. Forgot that she was the village head its been a while. Used her as a witness. The actual village is huge. She lives about 10 minute drive away. I didnt know that area was even part of our village. I must live on the border or something because two blocks away I know alot of people but they are listed in a different village. This same village thing really makes life hard. But anyway Im done. Just need to wait now for the under consideration period to be done. I think all should be fine.

Thank you for the advice. This forum is really an amazing thing.

  5. For my one year Visa extension based on marriage the immigration guy came around yesterday and wanted to talk to neighbors. He said needed copy of ID and Tambien Baan of the witnesses.

Problem is that the neighbors tambien baan they are listed on different houses they own or they are renting which the guy said cant use.

SO not sure what to do.

One neighbor he took her photo and had sign some papers. Took copy of the tambien baan that she is listed on (different house) and her ID. But for the other neighbot said we cant do that

    for the other neighbor.

So If I cant get another witness what can I do?

Thought of looking for village head but no idea who he is or how to get ahold of him.

    Any ideas?

  6. Hope someone here can help me with a couple of questions I have.

I have read through alot of the forum but specifically what I am asking not reflected.

    I am an American, 42 y.o.

Next month I want to apply for my Non-O (To visit as a spouse of a Thai nationality)

On the Royal Thai Consulate (LA) website it gives the walk in hours for apply so I got that.

    My questions are as follows:

    1. Do I need to furnish a two way ticket or one way ticket when I go into apply? After getting here I will be requesting an 1 year extension of stay based upon marriage to Thai National.

    2. It states I have to have a letter from my spouse. ( A letter from the spouse verifying that the applicant and the spouse are still married and the purpose to visit Thailand.) Is there a template for this or do I just type something up? Also should it state that I will be applying for the extension?

    3. After I get here, how soon should I go to the local immigration office to start the extension.

Appreciate any insight those here can give. Obviously i want this all to go as smooth and painless as possible.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

  7. Pattyaorganic. Do you actually read the news or just comment whenever you have a whim?

NASA is a civilian agency and this is a weather study. The benefit is the scientific study of the atmosphere and weather patterns above

    S. East Asia. Thailand was proposed due to the centralized location.

How do you pull conspiracy from something simple? The US has assets available already that provides intelligence data for the government. Every civilian program from the US that provides to help the planet doesnt mean there is a ulterior motive. Thailands scientific community will greatly benefit most of all from the access and experience with working with very sophisticated equipment and data analysis.

The project was proposed over a year ago and from I read in the news is that if an answer isnt given by the date discussed, then NASA would not be able to move all the equipment and materials needed to set up and get up and running in time to conduct the survey during the most opportune weather conditions. Meaning that they would be forced to try again next year or work with conditions not optimal for the study. If I was spending millions of dollars on a study I would want to conduct my research during peak times.

I fail to understand how you can think that the US did not respect the Thai gov. The civilian agency said they would not do it if they could not get a yes or no by the date. NASA is not the US government.
