  1. Would be good if they posted how to remove Python and unlock its jaws just for future references

It is not that easy to get them lose as the teeth are shaped in a way that keeps their prey from getting lose and backing out. You cannot just pull your arm lose or your thumb out of ones mouth. The mouth has to be opened wide and the teeth pryed free of the flesh.

It is fairly easy to make a python or other constrictor let go. The easiest is to put it's head under water. The fastest is to pour alcohol in it's mouth.

  2. I second the e-reader. I hated them and refused to get one. I'm a book hoarder and I like paper! Until the day I finished a fantastic book and was ready for the sequal. I couldn't find it anywhere. I searched Bangkok, Penang and Chiang Mai. Finally, in an act of desperation, I down loaded it to my tablet. It's so easy and fast. It's also cheaper than buying books here. With Kindle there is an option of a monthly fee and you can read any book. You can also get the first chapter of anything for free. I understand how hard it is to leave your books, I have the same problem. Every visit to the States I come back with 25 kilos of books.

  3. I don't know if Thai roaches would fit through the door of one of those hotels, maybe try one meant for mice.

I haven't tried it here, but with the smaller roaches a vacuum cleaner works great. Roaches run away from wind, so if you aim a vacuum cleaner hose at them they run into it and get sucked up. I hate squishing them.

  4. Self inflicted? Somehow the OP made the embassy in Singapore stricter than others? I've seen the lady he speaks of make applicants cry! They wouldn't issue me a tourist visa because I didn't have a paper ticket arriving in Thailand. Paper ticket? What airline mails those these days? I couldn't get one from Air Asia so I went back the next day and snuck past the paper work checker. The lady at the window told me my printed itinerary was fine.

  5. Why would anyone want to park their car with the engine running anyway? Seems like a pretty obscure and odd thing to be fining people for, can't imagine they'll get much income from it.

Sorry to ask, but how long have you been in Thailand?

If I would get 400 Baht for every stinking Diesel pickup that is running unattended on our local Tesco parking lot, it would not a need a pension.

One of the annoying daily experiences: running motors with no sense.

My big applause to Villa market for this tiny bit of awareness!

And if read the other posts, I realize that many must be from US citizens who don't care about fuel gussling and spoiling the environment.

That is one of the common habits with Thais.

On the other hand: the signs being in english only would be a harsh kind of discrimation.

@Jerry Cornelius: you habe doublechecked that? Can you read Thai?

In the northern US we leave the engine running while we run into a store during extreme cold spells. We do this because if we turn off the engine the battery will freeze and the diesel will gel. Turn off your engine and you won't be able to start the truck until the thaw. Glo plugs don't work if the battery is a block of ice. We can turn the engine off at home because there is an electric heater in the engine that we plug in to an extention cord running to the house.

  6. How old is your GF? If she is in her early 20s there is still hope for boobies. Start feeding her Western food and fatten her up. I was always very flat chested until around 25 years. I was very active and until I changed jobs and quit running and exercising all the time (I did stunts and trick riding) I would get mistaken for a guy because I was so flat. For me it wasn't a problem because no one wants boobies when they're riding. Now at 40 they pretty big. I went from an A to DD.

  7. A British man climbed Everest 18 months after partially crushing 3 vertebrae following a parachuting accident. He's a Christian. Is he too weak?

It depends. When he got to the top did he say, "Jesus gave me the strength to climb the mountain."? If so, he is saying he's too weak and needed Jesus to help him. Personally, I don't think God or Jesus care if people climb mountains, win on game shows, or make a touch down. If the mountain climber said, "Thinking about the life of Jesus gave me the strength to climb the mountain.", I would think he was strong.

  8. I tried not to respond, but couldn't help myself. I think it has more to do with the lady in particular than nationality (except Russian ladies, boy do I have some stories about them!). I'll compare myself to the "average" Thai lady discussed here on TV.

    1. I never have had, nor never will, have a sick buffalo.

    2. My parents can take care of themselves and have stashed enough money to keep themselves until they are 90.

    3. My parents recently built their own house with their own money.

    4. I don't gamble.

    5. I don't need a new car.

    6. I don't play the lottery.

    7. I don't need to see a lucky monk and give him money.

    8. I own two pairs of shoes, flip flops and my "polite" shoes, and I don't want more.

    9. I won't have any "surprise" children show up from a previous relationship.

    10. My siblings are all overseas so they can't borrow money.

    11. I have my own business that makes a profit.

    12. My hobby, leatherwork, is also my business so it pays for itself.

The downside is that I like cheese, coffee, the cinema, and steak.

  9. My husband was a cute baby. To protect him from ghosts his mother poked him in the forehead with an incense stick and burned him. She figured if he had a scar the ghosts would leave him alone. He still has the scar.

About the puppy acting up in the master bedroom, I totally believe a dog could smell that a rotting corpse had been in the room recently. That's why they use dogs to find bombs, survivors, drugs and corpses. They have a great sense of smell.

  10. I don't think most of us are bothered by an "odd cry". A baby gets hungry, starts to cry and it takes the mother a few minutes to get a bottle in his mouth. That doesn't bother me. Kids kicking the seat, endlessly opening and closing the tray table, running up and down the aisles, crawling under the seats, climbing over my seat, pulling my hair, throwing things and screaming for more than an hour are what bother me.

I don't understand what is wrong with giving a kid a small dose of cold medicine (unless that is against your religion or beliefs). You give it to them when they are sick, right? The cold medicine doesn't cure the cold, it only makes them feel better and sleep. When kids get sick they cry because they are over tired, uncomfortable, and cranky. On an airplane kids cry for the same reason. A little bit of something to help them be more comfortable doesn't sound so bad to me.

I was on a flight IAD to NRT, 13 hours. There was an older guy with a baby. He put the baby in the crib and it started to cry so he put on noise cancelling head phones and ignored it. That kid cried for almost the entire flight. The flight attendants (ANA) took turns holding and rocking the baby, but they couldn't do that the entire fight. What a miserable experience for that baby. It was hard to believe how LONG he could cry. It might have been pressure on his ears to make him scream for so long and not sleep like most babies do. I can't help but believe that if he had been given a little baby allergy medicine it might have opened up his airways a little and put him to sleep. 13 hours is a long time for a baby to be in that kind of pain.

What I'm getting from this thread is most parents would rather have a miserable screaming kid making everyone elses trip a nightmare than make their kid comfortable.

Parents who have good kids, we're not talking to you. Quit being so defensive. If your kid isn't bothering us chances are we don't notice them and they aren't the subject of sedation.

  11. Hi, I can't find where I found the information because I'm using a tablet, but I did read an official government page about having a Thai husband. We were also given a lot of hard to read paperwork when we asked for it at immigration. Anyway, I'm in the same situation. I did not need any proof of income, nor did my husband. We did bring his tax stuff, bank book and business certificate to show, but they didn't ask to see any of it. I don't need a work permit to work in his business with him. I am not allowed to handle money and I still can't do a forbidden job. It is also fairly easy to get a Thai passport as a foreign woman.

  12. You can get many 30 day on arrival visa exempt stamps. I leave the country so often for work that I rarely get any kind of visa and I've been coming and going for 6 years. To board a plane to come to Thailand he will need an outward bound ticket leaving within 30 days. If you are going to Cambodia within 30 days make sure he has the itinerary so he can board in India. To come back from Cambodia he should also have an outward bound ticket, but if you are flying Air Asia you may not get asked. I have never been asked for one by them.

  13. I have a Thai lady friend that booked a group tour with a couple of her friends. She didn't go with her farang bf. At immigration she was stopped and asked a lot of questions. Her English isn't that great and she was refused. The tour guide noticed she didn't make it through and went back and talked to them. She convinced immigration to let her in. I would suggest being with your gf when she wants to enter.

  14. Quality posts, love em.

If you cant find any go commando but remember to powder heavily 1st or you'll nadgers will be red raw and your ass will be looking like a blood orange within an hour.

    Good luck with your search.

Failing everything an old Terry's style nappy maybe? Boil it like mum used to in the 70's and re-use. Still powder up though, it's essential.

I thought it was against the rules to discuss illegal behavior on this forum. Going outside without underwear is against the law here! All posts suggesting this kind of activity should be taken down.

  15. Don't even think about shipping a TV. If it arrives at all, the chances of it being broken are pretty high. Get here and find out what TV your condo already has. I've stayed some places with fairly good sized sets. If it is a decent size, suck it up for a year and get a monster set for your new place. Also, the converter thing to change the electric has a little fan and is loud.

Bring your game systems and any games.

Don't bring your DVD player, it won't play the DVDs here. Bring excessive amounts of underwear if your fanny isn't Thai sized. Don't bother packing more than two pairs of socks. Don't bring a lot of shoes, just the high quality nice ones. Cheap ones here are very cheap. Bring a flat sheet for you bed, they are hard to find here. If you have a memory foam topper for your mattress, bring it. It will fit in a large suitcase with your XBox in the middle. Pay to check an extra suitcase and the overweight fees. It's cheaper than shipping and you know it will arrive. I moved all of my important stuff here in luggage.
