  1. My Thai wife has a Thai friend who has overstayed her tourist visa to the US. She is interested in marrying a man who is a US citizen. My wife has read on other Thai web forums that if her friend marries in the US, she will have to leave the US before she can apply for a permanent residence on the basis of marrying the US citizen.

Is this true? Will she have to return to Thailand and apply from there for her green card? My guess is that this is probably the case but I don't know. I didn't even think they would let her become legal once she decided to overstay her visa. Then again I remember hearing a story on NPR of an illegal who is getting his green card after marrying a US citizen. I don't recall whether he was forced to return to Mexico.

If she go to immigration before the Marriage takes place and pays all the fees she will be OK I inquired about that a few years ago but she must do it before her visa expires sadly the girl in question was not a loyal G/F so I dump her LOL she had a 10 yr visa

  2. aoft.org

There was a thread before about it being a good idea to start an organization to lobby for expat rights. From what i gather these guys were doing just that before the coup and intend to start doing so again.

You can " lobby" to your hearts content but do you really anyone

here is going to listen to farangs demanding rights ? :o:D

I made this thread here so that people in the past that mentioned wanting something like this could know about it. I am not running the site or doing the lobbying.

To answer your question I think that if there were enough members it might accomplish something. Probably not all of the goals they list on their site but they might be able to do some good. Every little bit helps.

If you do not own any thing of great value why stay here I hear and let me repeat my self I hear Cambodia will treat you much better and also Malaysia it seem they don't want us here in my humble opinion they don't like the idea we are educating there women and as for B/G they make more money in 1 month than they could earn in 6 months in a slave shop factory it all about economics in my opinion you hire a girl to clean your room you give her any were from 200 to 500 baht she is thrilled you just pissed of the thai elites because they would give here 20 baht for the same job they want to keep the poor poor and under control we set them free of there B/S that also includes thai men as well we treat them better also when they do work for us I am married to a thai girl she has her own motor bike I bought for her new and she has a new Mazda pick up truck in her name we bought it new it financed she has a house 1/2 built in her village I ran out of money LOL she is in a dream world she never thought this would happen to her and I love the idea of doing it for her I give her because I enjoy seeing the expression and love I receive from her that why we are hated a thai man with wealth thinks he is royalty and treats women like a second class citizen correct me if I am wrong I am open to hear your opinion

  3. lot of good advice given

if it was me I would smuggle her back to cambodia and I would move to Cambodia and get the neccessay papers for my self then get her the papers she need in cambodia

from what I hear cambodia is farlong friendly not like Thailand correct me if I am wrong

now if you are one of those farlong who invested his life saving here then you can travel to cambodia and take care of her

here a possible solotion get a lady boy to marry her since some one else suggested that maybe be the only answer to get her back to Thailand

oh maybe you marry her in Cambodia and bring her to Thai as your dependent wife check on the visa reg for that

I think you got your self a major problem but if you are really interested in this girl go for it the challenge would be rewarding if you succeed God Bless you and the Lady

  4. The requirement is 65k pension/income if using the income method and it is in the law (police order 606/2006). There is no requirement that you be making transfers of that money in the law. But Immigration officers do like to see some proof that you are living on external source of funds when you do not have a work permit and a bank passbook/bank letter is accepted (although not required by most officials).

In Aug I went to Nong Khai for renewal of my ret/O visa I had to have a letter from the bank showing funds in my account they calculated my income and check the funds in my account bingo I was refused renewal because the funds and the income did not come out to 65K because of the strenth in thai baht sadly I had just withdrawn funds a few days earlier now I am on married to thai visa to much B/S for old man like me

  5. 1 million baht for elite card which is only good for 5 years any one who is thinking about buying one take a deep breath and do it several times before plucking down your hard earned cash

because all it does is save you 20 visits to immigration for that you pay 1 mil.

I had a ret/visa now I am on married to thai visa I used my pension from the usa for my ret/visa

now I just have to bring in 40k a month which I was doing any way

here a better way buy a thai lady a house for 1 mil and at the end of 5 yrs some poor thai girl now has a house instead of corrupt goverment having your 1 mil

  6. life in prison for a convicted murder in a robbery attempt sorry I do not agree with that

the only way to handle this is exactly the way the Thai gov. is handling it excute him

you can come up with all the anology you want about excution

but the simple facts are when there is no doubt that the way to go.

Charles Manson was sentence to death in California and then they change the law he got

his hiny saved from the gallows of death now he is over 70 yrs old and all he does is sleep in his cell

while Sharon Tate sleeps in her grave sorry the sob & all like him should get what they deserve

if the death penalty is awarded then they must die but I do want to interject all avenues must be used before the excution takes place like DNA testing to be sure and no Mike Nifong DA with holding evidence from the Def. attorneys like one poster said once he is dead he can not commit any crimes no more

  7. Firstly I say hello to all as this is my first post.

I am a 39 year old Brit living in Thailand for some 2 years now and last friday I went to Nong Khia immigration to extend my 90 day tourist visa after the usual 60 days.

When my turn came I took my seat and presented my paperwork. The official took a brief look and smiled at me smugly and told me he would only extend it for 7 days at the same cost (1,900baht) as the 30 day extension.

When I questioned this he just kept say "New law come last year"

I politely showed him my passport that he himself extended for 30 days in May this year.

"New law come last year" was all he would reply.

I had no choice but to pay as I was unprepared for an overnighter in Laos and when I asked should I just go to Laos every 2 months and not bother with the extension "Nothing sure" was his informative reply.

Once again I left Thai immagration feeling like some form of undesirable that should only be treated with contempt.

I would like to know if anyone else has had their so called 90 day tourist visa turned into a 67 day visa or was the gentleman, if you have been to AEK hospital, Udon or Nong Khia you know which one I mean, suffering PMT that day?

I know the Gentleman in question sadly he get his rocks off by screwing farlongs every day

I also had a bad exp. with him. just be prepared to do a border run the next time but go to the embassy and get a 60 day sadly you have to pay Lao for a entry in to there country

  8. this new law does not affect me but Malaysia is looking awfull good to me

I went to Penang few years ago for visa when I arrived in Malaysia without a visa they gave me 90 days at the airport.

Amazing here in LOS you only get 30 days

and another thing I do not see the ringitt going up or down like the thai baht

and you can take a train ride to BKK from Penang if you choose to do so

now if I can get my pick up truck which is financed to Malaysia with out any problems

I am out of here asap

  9. well I don't know any thing about this but I do know I lost over 5000 USD in the last year just in currency exchange and I did not buy one share of stock any were.

so is my goverment going to bail me out hel_l no

so why should my goverment bail out the fools who invested there money on a get rich scheme

hedge funds sub prime this is like gambling in las vegas casino when you lose you can't go to the pit boss and ask him for your money back they will call security and escort you out of the casino

so my USA goverment should do the same tell them to go F. off

  10. It's apparently a fact that more than half of those on retirement visas use the bank balance + income method. Let's talk about that. Not about the current hassles and verification requirements and "Thailand doesn't want us", but simply why does this method appeal to so many.

Fact: If you bring in a million baht three months before your renewal date, have 800k on the renewal date, and drain it down for the next nine months, you will earn (only) about 5,000 to 6,000 baht non-taxable interest.

Fact: If you use the income method and only keep 400,000 baht here, presumably this allows you to keep the other 400,000 baht equivalent in your home country, earning (at most) 5% there. That's 20,000 baht equivalent, on which you will presumably pay home country taxes.

Fact: If you use your home country credit card for purchases in Thailand, you will be charged an additional 2% to 3% by the card issuer, on top of a discretely biased exchange rate.

Fact: If you use your home country bank's ATM card here, you will lose at least 1% for the currency exchange, plus pay a fee for one or both ends of the transaction. The ATM fee(s), the currency exchange fee, and the biased exchange rate may be itemized or they may be hidden but they are definitely there.

I guess you can see where I'm going with this. It doesn't matter whether you are rich or merely a pensioner, the fact remains that while the income method prevents the loss of a useful several hundred dollars in interest, it may encourage the use of credit cards and overseas ATM cards that may more than offset the difference in interest rates.

I do not use my US credit card nor my US ATM card. I make wire transfers into K-bank 2 or 3 times a year. I use my K-card to make debit purchases at places like Central and BNH Hospital. Otherwise I take cash from their ATM machines (and I can use any other bank's machines 3 times a month). I use their online banking to pay my rent, my DSL bill, my partner's allowance, and top up my 1-2-Call SIM card.

It's simple to manage and avoids the whole can of worms involved in income verification.

So, tell me folks, what am I missing here?

your post is good what you are missing is the % rate from US banks it not 5% it much less to get 5% or better you need at least 100K USD

Now I ask you what is a K card ?

If your post includes a reference or quote about moderation, it's likely to be eliminated. Also, deletion of such posts disrupts the sequential post count, so that #139 may now be #134 or 137.

Political bashings and things which are more or less off topic and which lead to political bashing, are also deleted.

If you persist in breaking the rules, you get punished and there are at least 30 moderators who don't enjoy punishing members. Thank you, have a nice day; we appreciate your comments that are on topic, etc.

Hello P/Blonde Your post confuses me since I am not sure if it directed at me or some one els since I check my prev. post and did not find any thing I said against you or any one else in this forum since I did get e-mail about your post maybe it would be a good idea to send them guilty of such posting a IM respectfully submitted Ronnie

aznyron, while my last post, quoted above, was of a general nature for all those who post on topics such as these, it wasn't directed at you. If my post directly followed yours, it was just a coincidence. If one of your posts was among the five deleted, please try to remember how it might have violated the forum rules, or the other points I just made.

You know, if I have time, I might go back and explain to one or more posters by PM (private mail) but this kind of problem already took up 19.6 minutes of my unpaid time, and I'm too lazy on a nice day like this to spend another 9.8 minutes....y'all enjoy the discussion, please. If you have specific questions, it's best to send a PM to a moderator or administrator.

P/B thank you for your feedback you explained it no your post was not meant for me just to let you know i do not attack moderators or any one else unles they make the first attack on me personally the good thing is we can disagree and still be civil to each other in this forum

  13. we all can talk and complain until we are blue in the face but the true fact is the people who can do some thing about will not because that would mean they were wrong so it better to wreck a country then admit your wrong six months ago I posted my opinion on what happening with the thai baht I found out I was right they were buying up USD to strenthen the thai baht but unfortunatly it blew up in there face now what is there next step

  14. Now according to Pat Buchannan who was on the ticket for President in 2000 also a former host on crossfire (CNN) said the USA lent it gold to some country when is was 35.00 USD per ounce when it hit the high numbers that same country wanted to sell us back our own gold at the current rate of gold per ounce now with that said we lent this country the gold to stabilize there currentcy

Pat Buchanan is a clown. it was not only then when he talked rubbish².

Dr Naam I would not characterize him as a clown I did not vote for him in 2000 but I do recall him saying things like stop outsaucing jobs to forien countries and let get fair trade deals he also was a union supporter (orinized labor) which is some thing I also support he also wanted the goverment to act on illegal immigration which is another thing I support but I am getting away from the original topic and that is the Thai Baht and as a retired American living in Thailand on my pension I am getting hammered in the transfer of funds now we are losing over 15% of our pension money based on 40 to 1 USD Now I am not a greedy person but I did not set that standard of 40 to 1 so since it was set that what I want not a thai baht less or more just give me the 40 to 1 and I shut my mouth and be a happy in thailand

  15. In regards to my friend Sonic dragon, I think that he is getting the U.S. national debt confused with the budget deficit. The budget deficit has indeed been shrinking every year since 2004, but there still is a deficit so the national debt does continue to climb each year albeit by a lesser ammount each year.

I am certainly not confused. The national/government debt is simply the effect of cummulative budget deficits. That the annual deficit is getting smaller is obvously better than it not getting bigger, but it is still BAD because it is not a surplus and consequently the debt (and the interest on it) continues to grow,

Sonic, your post above shows me that you understand the situation very clearly, so my question to you is why in two of your past posts here(#109 and #112) have you made misleading and false staements about the U.S. budget deficit. In post #109 you say "the budget deficit is already running away" , I go on to correct you in my post #110 thinking that you may have inadvertantly been refering to the U.S. natioal debt, then once again in post #112 you state that "the budget deficit isn't really shrinking its getting LARGER at a slower pace". The fact is (and anybody can check it out on the GAO website or on google or elsewere) that the U.S. budget deficit has been shrinking every year since 2004, despite the high cost of the U.S. involvment in Iraq. Things like the U.S. trade and budget deficits and U.S. trade policy and monetary policy have an enormous impact on how China, Japan and many other asian countries conduct their economy, and therefore have profound impact on the volitility of the Thai baht. Granted, this current round of irrational exuberance in Chinese markets and in the SET and baht is primarily due American and European hedge funds, currency speculators, and to the cheap money available and currently flowing out of Japan. To those out there who think that mentioning the U.S. budget defict or talking about the dollar in a post about the volitility of the Thai baht is somehow getting off the subject, I liken your view of the situation to someone with blinders on. A stronger U.S. dollar will be instumental in not only stabilizing the baht but in revitalizing the Thai economy and getting it back on the fast track. By the way sonic, thanks for the PM clarifying that whole moderator censorship thing.

I just want to ad some thing about the gold standard the USA has been on what is called GNP (gross national product) since I guess 1971 correct me if I am wrong. No one can be that misinformed, so this must be a prank post, good try!

VegasVic exactly what are you implying

  17. WOW now that I read all the post submitted to this topic I did not realize how dumb I am about finance and buying and selling money and US economy and trade defiects and congress spending sprees and china yuan but in all truth I can smell a scam and the scam is the thai baht Now I will give you readers my defination of what going on the Thai banks as well as the goverment are proping up the thai baht and buying USD and low price when the timing is right for them they will crash the thai baht and buy it back at a rate above 40 to 1 but first they must bankrupt all thos bars in Pattaya & Phuket and send all those BG back home to slave in some factory for 100 baht a day since they are not getting a piece of the action now all you economist reading my post how is it with a coup a tsunami a big drop in tourism

adminstration that makes rules to chase away foriegn investors with there coocoo ideas and laws 51% ownership by a Thai national and adminstration that can not control it people that they still have martial law and sensor what the public should hear now why should the thai baht be 33.85 to 1 USD as of noon july 4 at siam bank in udon thani explain that to me thank you thaivisa for letting me vent my anger & frustration I am getting hammered in currency transfer

  18. I'd kill him if I found him in bed with another woman. Problem solved :o

But lets face it, sex, is, for alot of men, simply physical. And its possible to repair a tattered marriage if the sex was meaningless. But if he was actually infatuated with the other woman, well then, there isn't much to fix, is there?

Anyway, the point of the OP's post is that her husband is carrying on a clandestine emotional affair over the internet with a Thai woman whom he presumably has had sex with and she is, considering how these things usually go, just interested in how much money he can send her.

And you know what, if a man is cheating on his wife then he has to take the chance that she will figure out something is up and read his emails. Liars will get caught.

If it were me, I would let the girl know she isn't going to be getting any money and then let him know I knew he was cheater and to get into marriage counselling immediately. After, of course, test for STD's.

Why some men can't learn to think with their big heads, I will never understand.

Haven't you heard what Robin Williams said about the male anotomy we only have enough blood to supply one head when the lower head is full of blood the upper head is brain dead on another note cyber sex can be dangerous to a relationship and in my opinion it also childish to engage in that practice Now on another personal note I would not waste my time on any one who is cheating & lying

  19. I do not remember them asking to see my ticket I had a return ticket since I bought R/T from Thailand and had non imm O and they did not renew it in the USA coral gables FL when I spoke to them on the phone before coming to there office from Greenacres WPB to get a non im O this is what they told me so I can only go on that now I have my retirement visa hopefully I will not have to go through that again

If they had given you a "O" visa they would of ask for the plane ticket. I surmise the reason they didn't give you the "O" visa is because you were over 50 years old and you are suppose to apply at the Embassy rather than a consulate for the retirement visa. This directive was sent around a year ago to the Consulates in the USA.

    www.sunbeltasiagroup.com

Sunbelt thank you for that info now I understand why I did not get O visa I should have applied in Wash/DC were the Embassy is I will be marring a thai national in a month so if I should go back any time soon I do not think I will have any problems. now on a different note is it differcult to get my future Thai wife a visa to go to the USA
