  1. Hi All

Wondered if someone has any experience on the above.

My Thai wife has lived in the UK for 4 ish years and has ILR card and her Thai passport.

I'd like to take her to Tenerife for a few days to meet family with our son who has a English passport (no worries).

Does anyone know the full process for her to be approved to go there using her Thai passport for a few days.

Any advise would be ideal. Thank you

  2. Ladies and Gentleman

I hope some one can direct me to the correct website or has experience on my question. My thai national wife and I live in England. My wife has been here 2 1/2 years and has ILR. We have a son who is 8 1/2 months old. He was born in the UK and we have registered his birth and have just submitted his UK passport application.

We have an appointment at the Thai embassy in London on the 30th December with the intentions of registering his birth with the Thai embassy and also applying for his Thai / Dual passport.

My wife concern and this is the advise I require is

    1. Do we have to register him at a address in Thailand ?

    2. If so what evidence do we need of the address ?

    3. If so does he go into a Thai blue book (My wife mum's home town address) ?

    4. My wife seems to think he can get called up into the army at the age of 20 due to being dual nationality ?

    5. Also at 20 he has to make a decision if he is Thai or English and has one passport revoked based on the decision he makes ?

If he does hold both passports can he then fly to Thailand (out of London) on his UK passport then at Bangkok enter Thailand on his Thai passport and stay in the country for 2-4 months at a time on holiday. If that is the case what passport does he produce at Bangkok to fly back say 3 months after arrival. If I'm correct he won't have a Thai immigration stamp in his English passport as he entered on a This passport ?

    Help please

Any guidance will be much appreciated.

    Thanks Tom

  3. Ladies and Gents

I wondered if you could help.

My wife has been in the UK on a 2 year settlement visa and during that time we have had a baby boy.

We plan to go to Thailand next year so we will need to get him his first passport.

My question is I guess would he just have a English passport or a dual citizenship passport?

If he had a dual citizenship would we be able to go to Thailand for 3 months for example and he not need to worry about a visa etc.

Any info will be greatly welcome....

    Thanks Tom

  4. My wife is currently on a settlement visa and she has been in the country now for 1 year exactly. She has completed her LITUK test but I have now been offered a job in Malaysia for 1 year. If I was to take the job offer and we were both to go how would this effect us in 12 months time when we would return.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

  5. Remember that she will need not only a LitUK test pass but a B1 or better (or equivalent) in English speaking and listening as well.

Also, ILR will lapse if the holder spends 2 or more years outside the UK; Furthermore, if it appears to an Immigration Officer when she enters the UK that she lives in Thailand and uses her ILR just for visits to the UK then they will cancel her ILR: although she would be allowed in as a visitor on that occasion.

Better, I think, if possible to hang on for another year so she can get British citizenship and then be free to leave and enter the UK as often and for as long as she wishes; just like any other British citizen.

7by7 regarding what you said about

Better, I think, if possible to hang on for another year so she can get British citizenship and then be free to leave and enter the UK as often and for as long as she wishes; just like any other British citizen.

Would my wife still be eligible to keep her Thai Passport so she could enter Thailand on that passport and not worry about obtaining visa's like a UK citizen has to whilst in Thailand.

Then when we fly back to the UK she can enter on her UK passport ?

    Is this correct.

    Thanks

  6. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

My Thai wife is in the UK on a 2 year settlement visa. She has been here 10 months so far. I'd like to take her for a weekend in New York. How would I make this possible if it is.

I guess I'd need to book the holiday then prove to the US embassy that we are going.

Anyone have experience if appreciate your help

    Thanks Tom

  7. Hi

If this has been covered many times I can only apologies. I've searched but no joy.

Myself (UK National) & my wife (Thai National) plan to move to Thailand in the next few years. I'm interested in buying a condo / apartment for us to settle in.

My question is tho I believe when buying a property you need to show the money you use to buy with has been transferred into the country bank to bank for an accountable paper trail I guess ?

What I'm currently doing is transferring money monthly to my Thai account so for example in 5 years I would have enough money to purchase. Is that exceptable to do ? Or will they require to see it all come over in 1 amount as an when I'm ready to purchase ?

Finally I'm not to hot on the law on buying property. Where do I stand.

    1. I believe if I just went out to buy from an estate agent 49% would be mine & 51% would be in the wife's name ?

    Is that correct ?

    2. Also are there such things as foreign free hold property's where it would be 100% mine ?

(Sounds awful I know but once bitten twice shy)

3.What's the chance of me getting a morgage in Thailand for it ? Is it possible or does it not exist.

    4. What else can you tell me or direct me to ?

    Thanks for any helpful responses.

  8. I do apologies if this has been covered before but I'm scrolling through the website & some posts are from 2007.

Basically I have a Barclays UK bank and have just set up a KBank in Thailand. I can log on from UK & see my Thai balance so have basic access not that the website is to easy to use. When I set up the account I was given a SWIFT code and the account name & account number now that I'm back in the UK I want some advise on how straight forward is it to send money too ?

Is sending it from a UK bank the best and cheapest way or do you know the best bank / account to send it from ?

    What are approx fees ?

Do I need an IBAN number if so what is it & how do I get it ?

I believe it's best to send GBP and let them do the currency conversion that end ?

I know the exchange rates change daily but do I get the TT rate if so what does it mean.

I'm looking at sending say £10,000 a year to the Thai account

Anything else that will help me please advise as this is 100% new to me. I'd be very greatful.

    Thanks

  9. Thanks for your replies. Sorry should of given you more to work with.

I'm a British citizen, spend 6 months a year in Thailand. Got a full UK driving licence and had for 15 years ish but unable to drive a motorbike in England as I'm not covered by the licence I got due to passed after a certain year I believe.

Only thing concerns me I won't pass it if its just in Thai as not that confident yet.

Thanks for the link ill get reading through that.

  10. Does anyone have any experience of a foreigner ( british ) doing a motorbike test in Thailand. I'm only talking doing a test for a 125 cc pull back & go automatic bike not a Harley or R1 bike.

Where can you do it ( if you can )

    How much etc.

If this is the wrong forum I apologies in advance.

    Thanks

    Any advise would be good.

  11. Just popped into KBank in Phuket with a passport ( no visa or work permit of any kind apart from my 30 day stamp when I arrived) & my wife who is Thai. Waited in the que and a member of staff opened me up a bank account all within 15 minutes. I had to deposit 2000 baht and paid 500 baht for my cash card and he set everything up for me with no agro. I get a text message to say when the account receives or releases money & Internet banking ( apparently ) I need to log in and work it all out yet. Didn't really have a Permeant address. We used the room her mum stays in a resident address. I told the member of staff myself & my wife will be flying back home to the UK in a couple of days & needed the account to send spending money over prior to our trip as well as not having thousands of baht in our hand luggage when we travel all over Thailand on our holidays. I believe it will cost £20 (1000 baht) to send from UK & a fee for the bank to receive the money in Thailand but I believe it's probably a small price to pay rather than someone emptying my safe of leaving my hand luggage in a taxi. Really was quite straight forward. I'm sure there are better accounts to have or use for across the ocean payments but its a start.

Any comments be welcome or advise.

  12. Gents just a quick question. In August last year my wife got her settlement visa sticker/stamp in her new married name passport. She flew to the UK with me and on arrival they stamped her passport and took her arrival card.

My question is when we fly back together in April for a holiday / visit I'm guessing she will show her passport with the stamp in it board the plane then can enter through Bangkok airport not needing a arrival card and que in the Thai national que.

On return to London I guess my wife will fill out another arrival card on the plane and go through border control with me as before.

Will she need to produce her TB certificate as if that's the case we better take it.

Thanks to who ever shares there experience.

  13. I'm in the same situation but I am sure the maximum amount of time aloud out of UK whilst on a settlement visa is only 3 months no more. If awaiting to apply for ILR without ruining your application. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  14. Me & the wife's experience after a meeting with our local adult education college today is as follows.

    They run 3 courses

ESOL Entry Level (whole year £451, 24 weeks £289 & 12 weeks £147 these prices include the test)

Courses above are 3 hours once a week in school terms.

As well as a ESOL Level 1 & 2 Speaking & Listening course (£378 including test).

The problem arises that she has not been a resident of the UK for a year. Only 3 weeks in fact and that means she will have to pay double the prices above and the next course starts in 2 weeks.

If I've done the maths correctly it will work out about £7.50 a hour for a 3 hour day once a week.

After the initial assessment she has enough knowledge / skills in English listening, reading and writing to join straight on the ESOL course level 2.

After her 1st year she hopefully will achieve level 2 & the following year will enrol on ESOL Level 3.

We have decided to do this course to help her enhance her English listening reading and writing for future opportunities with work etc.

This intern will hopefully make her B1 & LITUK easier when it arises in a couple of years.

    I hope this helps.

  15. My wife has an appointment on Thursday regarding enrolling on a ESOL course. I am guessing we will come across the same higher rate fee as she has only joined me in the UK about 3 weeks ago. This higher rate wasn't mentioned on any of the application forms, phone calls or enrolment letter guessing they will break the news to us face to face. Will update my experience on Thursday.
