  1. Sorry, but do we know that the lady was killed, I cannot see it in the report.

you are correct it only says she was gunned down not the outcome, I have lived in thailand for only two weeks and am shocked at the number and variety of attacks on people, shootings, stabbings, muggings you name it have read about it.

Every state in the USA has news like this everyday. Thailand is safer than the USA any day.

Violence is violence in all parts of the world. Maybe Thailand is to scary for you?

Not really apples for apples is it? How many middle aged seamstresses get followed to their local Walmart and are shot in the head in what appears to be a contract killing? Do try to remember where you are.

  2. I've eaten at the Farang restaurant regularly when it was located at the back of BigC and the food was excellent. It was always full. The portions were fine with me. I do go for quality over quantity though.

I have not as yet tried the branch in Sai Yuan, but see it's always full. Perhaps the custom doesn't comprise of those ordering fish and chips, pizza or pork steak in apple sauce, from this particular restaurant renowned for it's THAI/ITALIAN food, however.

  3. It's some state of affairs when you have to be accompanied by 10 armed soldiers to Parliament.

Seriously, people need to take a step back here, things could easily spiral out of control.

I fear things are already out of control and it could be some time before any sense of normality returns. PTP and it's leadership resemble Billy Smarts Circus more and more each day. Bring in the Clowns.

And this differs from what passes for governments past here in Lilliput how, exactly?
  4. Why yes! I'm sure you'll find no problem attracting old neverbeens just itching to grab their moth eaten Les Paul copies and get some chum able to hit a stretched cowhide with a stick or two, together with someone playing along with themselves, alone, on an all singing all dancing 'keyboard', whose collection in music stopped around 1980 and deems everything else 'rubbish'.

Good luck with that blink.png .

You're always in such a foul mood or is the bad weather affecting you ?

Why did you bother posting this? Have I hit a nerve?smile.png 'Bubblegum'. Hey! Wasn't that a 'music' genre?laugh.png

  6. Its a shame the country keeps getting dragged back to the past by Taksin. The best thing that could happen is for the country to forgot about Taksin and move forward and on.

The people have no change to forget about Thaksin. He is holding this country (and people) hostage. It's liking trying to sleep at night but every 30 min Thaksin will call you and say: "He what are you trying to do? Sleeping? What about me? I am still in Dubai and I still haven't gotten my 46 billion". Yes Khun Thaksin but how about us? There are 60 million Thai people that want to go on with their lives?"

Well this one's easy. The media won't let you. If you had a grudge but no money to pay off media shills, your ranting would be mere piss in the wind. I include successive inept 'administrations' in this for allowing this megalomaniac to publicly broadcast from overseas. Incredible when you consider how Thailand's so keen on censorship and able to block things they don't like at the drop of a hat.

What was that line about 'giving the oxygen of publicity' from the odious Thatcher?

  7. Whilst disagreeing with Carra on each and every post, iI believe you are calling 'commie' (stupid word, are you American?)

Over my many years here, I have heard the word 'commie' used by intellectually challenged Americans only, to refer to everything from almost any type of social program to the bloody Florida Library using 'tax dollars' to fund free access to it's, I would say, much needed services.

The word is a misunderstood epithet mostly by those with limited education (have you ever heard Naom Chomsky or Gore Vidal, both educated, intelligent Amercans) use that stupid ignorant word? So yes, it is used by the types of Americans who wouldn't be able to define it's meaning but merely parrot it from their predominantly Republican rallies. Can you enlighten us as to what it means to the likes of you?

  8. Actually, if the guy had any brains at all he would have served his time (in comfort no doubt) and then handed over his 49 billion without a struggle on the condition that it was used to provide education and health services for the poor and to put into the pot for a major anti-corruption drive. That would have made him a hero to all and given him rthe redemption that he so craves. Thailand would now be at peace, not on the brink of civil war .

I agree with the thrust of your post, but don't anyone kid themselves Taksin would've spent any time, comfortable or ubercomfortable, in the nick. And he of course knows this. Name one dodgy pollie who has? And there've been a lot of them.

As has been explained to me by Thais of every stripe/hue, The only reason he didn't come back then was because he was well aware he would very likely be shot. His support/powerbase were very small at that time and he's been attempting to garner support (up until his recent faux pas it seems to have worked), so strongly, that 'offing' him would be far too disadvantageous to Thailand's reputation for NOT assassinating it's bothersome politicos, in public anyway.

  9. Just like I said a few days ago. Here we go again. Then after the yellow shirts have destroyed parliment house they will move to the airports again, this time it will kill all tourism for Thailand for years. And through on top of that a possible coo coming ( sorry cant spell).

No you can't spell and are also ignorant. Were you even here then? The PAD did not 'destroy' parliament house, as you put it, and for the zillionth time: They organised a demonstration at the airport when they'd had wind of the imminent arrival of Taksin. They were then forced into the terminal by the red shirt contingent paid for by Taksin, and the Taksin friendly police.

Dear God. I do wish some of you would bother to go back and research the exhaustively documented FACTS leading up to this event before shooting your stupid mouths off.

  10. Its all happening again, same as 2006. Next they will move parliment to Dongguan Airport where the yelowshirt protestor will follow and the red will attack them with granades while they sleep.

Where is this mythical airport,. I have never heard of it, and how could the red shirts throw grenades at people sleeping at a place that does not exist.

I think your belief about 'red shirts' throwing grenades at sleeping people is as misguided as your sense of direction, as far as i can remember nobody was convicted for throwing these grenades although I could be wrong, and I always find it easier to take a post more seriously of it is balanced and highlights the faults and violence from both sides, or are you one of these people that ignores the bombings and violence and damage instigated by the yellow shirts last time round?

Thankfully for all concerned I don't think they have the numbers like they had last time to do any real damage to the country, and one big factor is that this time around I don't think they have the army either.

I think you are a commie hack, unless you just so happen to like 5 point stars and red/yellow motifs. Your mistaken affinity for the red-shirts is transparent, as is your attempt at logic via discourse. You see a typo someone made about an airport and that's your basis for your entire argument against so-called yellow shirts. Also, you underestimate the power of human division -probably because you come from somewhere really repressed. Or worse, somewhere too free to actually understand anything with much depth.

The reds and yellows are both a childish set, Thais are showing their political nature, just as those from all countries where polarity seems to be the reigning factor. Both sides indeed have quite enough power to rip this country apart. How would you know who the Army sides with?

Instead of seizing on such polarity, -try to exert some balance and actually help the world with some insight, -or, go back to waiting in line for your rations with your comrades. And don't led Vladimir Putin trick you into any "deliveries" -stay away from that Polonium-210!

Whilst disagreeing with Carra on each and every post, iI believe you are calling 'commie' (stupid word, are you American?) Taksin, a self vested/interested billionaire laughable and has absolutely nothing to do with the ideals of communism, to which, as a misanthropist, I do not personally subscribe, but find the insane piggery of rampant capitalism equally bad.

I suggest you educate yourself. Marx would be a good start.

PS The PAD never threw grenades, the red shirts were lobbing them over the wall of Government House at the PAD.

  11. I'm usually against mobs like these but in this case, good show Yellow Shirts!

    Not keen on democracy then?

As is blindingly evident, there is and can be no 'democracy' here in a country so polarised by the ammata versus the 'peasant' class. Where do you think you are?

Again. The ill conceived coup was a terrible mistake from which this country shows no signs of recovery this century.

What are they to do now? Allow Taksin back and take over again? Not even the increaslingly deluded 'red shirts' would allow this now, given Taksin's blowing his cover. And the democrats were shown to be feeble and 'business as usual' regarding the 'elite'.

    Answers on a postcard.

  12. For there to be reconciliation there has to be compromise on both sides ,this IMHO is totally alien to a Thai, as to admit that you could be wrong means losing face , so its a none starter and doomed to failure .

I disagree with your saying 'reconciliation' is alien to the Thais. They will go out of their way to accommodate one another, even to the absurd extent of letting a convicted felon slip the country. 'Better to allow the easy way out'. And now they are beginning to learn the 'easy' way isn't and has come back to bite them in the arse.

They managed to escape being colonised by making concession after concession to the Europeans after all.

  13. If it were not for the PAD, like them or not, Taksin's nose would've been back in the trough years ago. Who was going to stop him? The stupid coup makers had more or less admitted their gaffe, fully realising it would've been best, albeit painful, to let this egomaniac implode.

He was reviled by most before the coup. And so where were his 'supporters' then? Why were they not out on the streets demanding his return in 2006? Not rocket science is it.

  14. Please remember Thailand is a very young democracy only since around 1939, there is a lot to learn yet and a lot of old habits to get rid of. Countries take a bit of time to become mature. The european countries England and France have been at this a bit longer than thailand and along with the US they still donot always get it right on ocassion.

I really don't believe you can use that old argument in 2012/2055. The town crier couldn't possibly have surpassed the huge amount of information available via mass media/the internet.
  15. You received a one year extension of stay for retirement using TM.7 form. There should not have been any requirement for the TM.47 90 day address report as the first extension of stay is a 90 day report without that form being required - but probably makes it easier to remember when next report is due having the receipt. You also received a multi re-entry permit so any travel you will use that information as your visa for return.

Is this the exact location? (from our Google map of immigration locations)

    https://maps.google....008163,0.012424

Wrong. After the interminable wait and ordering yet a gazillion more copies of my passport/bankbook etc, I'd forgotten (and wasn't reminded) to move to yet another desk for the 90 day reporting form. When i returned 90 days later 2k baht was demanded. When I objected no one had told me to go fetch the 90 day form (as I would have assumed that the bloody Extension To Stay was a given anyway), the fee was upped to 4,000 baht.

This was on Phuket some time ago. This law is there (I've always remembered to apply for the 90 day report since) and can be enforced if they feel bloody minded enough/want some extra lunch money.

  16. Hilarious how all these former Useful Idiots of Thaksin's are now shocked, SHOCKED, that they have become Useless Idiots now that Thaksin is done with them.

Au contraire. He still needs them not to make a fuss now that the scales have fallen from their eyes and are able to think for themselves.

    Impossible. 'Genie' 'bottle'.

  17. I take it from the 'gorilla/elephant in the room' remarks that these posters are labouring under the delusion that Thailand was corruption free up until Taksin? Or even that .... it escalated under Taksin? Suely not. Anyone remember the massive land scandals surrounding Leekpai, just one example? i could go on.

The fact is that government wrongdoing of any stripe and in any country worldwide is being increasingly reported. We are no longer in the 1950's. And Taksin was perceived as a threat to the status quo, therefore an easier target. Yes he and his family/cohorts are as bent as a 99 baht note, but do not lose sight of the fact that the rest fared no better. Simply stronger patronage ...
