  1. yup, ive already asked her to do the test infront of me but not being in the same country and unable to leave the uk i cant force her to sit on the toilet and piss on the stick. or it would of been done already.

In that case tell her to call you back after the baby is born and you can take baby for a DNA test.

You don't have to pay anything as hospital care for pregnancy is free, and efficient in Thailand.

Don't speak to her, don't give her any money until after you have done the DNA test.

    PS

Abortion is against the law in Thailand

    PPS

As you are not married, you don't have any parental rights over the baby at all, even if it exists and is yours.

    PPPS

A bargirl that actually gets pregnant, will contact ALL her customers in those two months, and tell them they are the father. It's a great scam, you can screw money out of 5 guys a at the same time.

Quote "A bargirl that actually gets pregnant, will contact ALL her customers in those two months, and tell them they are the father. It's a great scam, you can screw money out of 5 guys a at the same time.''

This scam us used by many girls, i can testify with my own eyes to this, abortion in Thailand is against the law but you can buy an "after sex pill" if a girl thinks she was impregnated or doesn't have her regular period for 60 baht, my girl used to take this pill even though i used a condom, she was absolutely paranoid (until i found out about the 3 other guys she had behind my back) the DNA solution is the best but i smell a scam.

Quote "Don't speak to her, don't give her any money until after you have done the DNA test." i smell demands for money on the way, if i am wrong on all counts then get some advice and good luck in your future, just don't send money because probably other guys are as well.

  2. May be she does not like Belgium at all but too shy to say so and never wants to go back, it is also a possibility.

May be she doesn't like the OP very much, and it's her way of keeping the kid, getting the OP to send her regular cash, and effectively ditching the OP. But avoiding all the hassle.

I'd like to know what village you stay in Thailand,, (not personally directed to you) the village i lived in many young girls would marry a falang stay have baby ditch number 1 go on to number 2 do the same thing, one lady is still married to 3 guys who don't know each other and she is getting regular money from all 3, it's like a business to them, your story just sounds so familiar, i was lucky, never had children but the lady had 3 guys sending her money, thanks fellers, the gold chain she bought me (with your money) looks great. This post is not directed at anyone just posted for informational purposes, you are very young and it sounds to me your lady is not the one talking, it's the mother and family,, listen to posters and good luck. I hope you (or your family) are not rich.

  3. "Must be self contained , with UBC"

Hello, i am also interested in renting a property in Jomtien in the near future so i read the posts with enthusiasm, but i don't

know what UBC means, i wish people would write in long hand so i could understand posts better,, could someone please

translate for me, i did a Google search and came up with University of British Columbia, United Brotherhood of Carpenters,

University Baptist Church, please now i'm really confused, please help, thank you.

  4. i guess they couldn't agree on the size of the kick backs.

as the co-owner of an M1 kid, i'm glad they didn't give them out. they would only be used for games and facebook anyhow

my teacher friend of mine told me they would not leave the classroom, (the tablets) and would be used for games, facebook and dating sites, wow their english would really improve from "i have no money" send me more money, to how much do you have in the bank and how can i get some of it,,, what gullible people and what a disaster it is spelling out, i hope they don't get any tablets ever.
  5. Good article, thanks JingThing. Read about his a couple years ago as I considered it. Element of emotional "voting with our feet" in protest, but the article laid out a few scenarios I hadn't considered, the common unpinning being money, taxes and overbearing govt interferece in our lives. Started out fair enough, virtuous War on Terror and all that, then leeched into broader powers to other agencies. We've been warned, so we need another McCarthy-like commission to haul up American expats with foreign bank accounts and accuse them of being tax dodging unpatriotic souls. That sort of public "name and shame" will never happen. rolleyes.gif

I do resent paying taxes (even with the FE Income Exclusion) to assist in operating the infrastructure of a country I don't live in, probably never will again, but do visit for a few weeks every few years or so. Mind less paying Social Security and Medicare monthlies, rationalizing that I might actually avail those accrual type services (chuckle) at some point in the future, and try to keep my head in the sand on the argument they may not be around by the time I get to eligibility age and further, my current contributions support a percentage "on the dole" who are defrauding the system. On the other hand, Mom/Dad are still around and collect monthly SS benefits, so I rationalize I'm helping them. A lovely, warm feeling, sorta like pissing down one's leg in winter, in the snow.

Oh, and to the lads who droned on above with the predictable "shoulda remained a colony" pokes, I actually agree, only as far as favorable expat taxes status goes. Yes, it would be grand.

However for the rest of it, and setting aside that you drive on the wrong side of the road, I am shocked and confused why you didn't relay the colonist comment to me in either Urdu, Farsi or Hindi, which makes complete sense to me as Z BBC told me all good English sur-names these days end in I or "Zed". Further, at least for now, where I'm located, can still go to "my" Embassy for a quick, new passport, not Germany, as I've heard a few of my UK allies and best mates lament about recently.

I do, however, say this descending into a barely audible, embarrassed murmur (as should you) as, where I'm at, the American Service Timing is 2 days weekly on the comical order of like 0900-0905. I arrive in the car park at 0830, compensating for the fact it requires 10 minutes to explain why I'm there to a host national (jobs programme), empty my pockets to get frisked by an Asian security guard paid slightly better than slave wages (jobs programme), then eventually I'm escorted by another Asian security guard into the Consular office where I am interviewed in front of a bullet proof window by a non-American (jobs programme). Shell out the required fees, reverse to check out with the Asian security guard and host national, who crosses me off the visitor's list.

I can visit my Embassy and save for other unfotunate souls like me, never see another American. tongue.png

In'Shallah, to be fair again, you should actually relay your colonist break away barbs to us Americans on this forum in Spanish which, after all, is our official, national language. giggle.gif

Allah Akbhar, Humdullah, peace be upon you, best mate. Happy taxes to the rest of us.

    J

You are so true, i landed in Miami some years ago and couldn't speak the language,, had to re-learn my high school Spanish so i could converse with the locals (what country was i an anyway) the English language was no good to me there.

  6. Ok, if have money to waste, lucky you. I think is pretty unuseful seek for advice here. People from the village can surely address you about where buy food, booze, etc. as every two weeks in every village in isaan there's a wedding/funeral celebration. I did a much smaller party when married at the village, can I give you some prices, relatives to surin area. One whole adult pig was about 4500 baht. 1 cow 6500. I think that with 200k baht you can arrange a really amazing show and party, with the half of the budget too! A big stage with band singers and coyotes I think is around 20000 baht. Police and stalls will come without paying them. Tables chairs etc normally are borrowed to the temple, is nice to give some tip to them. Tents, sound system for the setup I don't remember but around 10.000. Local guys to help the setup and guard the place in the night: make them drunk and will be happy. For the overbudget could I send you my bank coordinates wink.png

Have fun, I guess it will be epic

PS: I think is not nice to buy ready to cook meat, the village people love to gather all together and do themselves, butcher, cut, cook and drink for a couple of nights before. That's the most funny for them, and a true tribal ritual! I did myself couple of times, and is where you may most feel the magic unity of the village

100% correct, this was the exact budget i spent for our wedding except mama got the cow from a friend for 3000 baht and the singers / band for 10000 Baht because someone knew someone, no one really buys ready cooked food, it's a wedding the whole village come together and do the cooking, eating, dancing, washing up, cleaning (i love it here).

  7. Hello, i was in Chumpae today and know it well,, congractulations on your wedding, can i come is the first thing that comes to my mind, everyone loves a party but thinking about it now, i don't really want to go, i was married 6 months ago in Issan,, near Akat Amnoi, (Sakon Nakhon) area, about 200 people, the cow, the alcohol, the dancers, i actually stopped the party about mid afternoon, it started in the morning but the fun part started about 11 am and i stopped it about 4 pm, when there's a party, Thai people go for the A-L-C-O-H-O-L and by mid afternoon there were young people turning up on the back of pick up's and joining the party, many parked outside the house and got into it,, without going into small detail, your 300 guest party will swell into maybe 500 or more (this is Thailand) you should really think about how to control the crowd, alcohol + young people = fights, this is your biggest issue, machetes, guns you name it they will use it, be careful my friend and you said 500 000 Baht for the wedding,, our wedding had about 150 or so (as people come and so) and cost under 60 000 baht, we had everything and lots of dancing girls, spending a lot of money doesn't guarantee a good party, just a lot of whiskey that causes all the problems,, enjoy your wedding and good luck.

  8. I was invited to go to Cambodia for the first time last month,, i was extremely impressed with the level of English proficiency by many of the locals and even the beggars spoke better English than many people here in Thailand,, one young girl that sold fruit on the beach would come to me every day to sell me mangoes and i eventually asked her her age, she was 13 years old went to school in the morning and sold fruit in the afternoon, learn't English in school and spoke it fluently, i was extremely impressed, so why aren't the Thais on the same level, not so many Thais speak as good English as the Cambodians...

As for English teachers in Thailand,, many are leaving the LOS and going to work in Laos,, for now the Laos pay the teachers $10 per hour while they work, no work no pay, in Thailand you need teaching degrees to work and many don't have them so the transition is to go to Laos then Cambodia, then probably Vietnam, then there's no where to go.

  9. My girl (and she's only 19yrs old) got into the game (with my money) lending out 50 000 Bht to one 20 000 Bht to another no paperwork just word of mouth, promises, and lots of smiles, there is a network out there for these people and if you don't pay the money back, then big problems can find you, she finally got all her money back with interest but now refuses to lend as people

do default, then how do you get the money back, or do you end up with the goods they bought, an old tv, broken pick up, rusty fridge the loan sharks do have problems its their business and they protect themselves usually with big ugly goons.

  10. Take away copied / pirated goods ? Why ? They are just a cheap imitation anyway.

I like to buy cheap so when someone steals it, i'll just buy another one newer, take

that away from me and let's see ? Cambodia ? Vietnam ? Burma ? Here i come.

Thai tourism note, falangs that come here do so for a reason also note, we can go

anywhere, we come here because of the exchange rate, value for money, freedom

of the country, take that away and there's no reason to come here anymore.

  11. The texture of the brick look great,,, i would attack a few others with a hammer and make them all look cool, if you want the weathered look just spray or sprinkle some milk on the bricks and let it dry and weather naturally,, as for your problem, you have

    3 issues to deal with,

issue 1, internally it is leaking, i recomend rendering the inside with new cement render, mix it yourseld and put it on yourself use a sponge and rubber gloves and while it's drying just smooth it off with a sponge,, the secret ingredient here is to use a WATERPROOF additive to the cement mix,1 part cement to about 4 or 5 parts clean sand,,, you can buy it at any BIG builders hardware supply and it is written in thai and english, i was kucky, i bought ready mix sand and cement, it is available just hunt for it and don't give up. People will say it doesn't exist, they are ill informed or just lazy to get it for you.

issue 2, the bricks, this is Thailand, bricks aren't fired,, usually mady by hand using a press method, cement is added to a red clay damp mix, put into the mold press and out comes a brick, one by one and put in the sun to dry, that's why you have a problem, they don't like water, you can buy a sandstone sealer which is actually liquid silicone to put on the outside bricks,, not waterproofer additive, don't confuse them, it will seal the bricks from the outside damp and rain, getting the picture yet.

issue 3, you are in a no win situation with what you have, for me i would fibregass the inside or knock it down and but something from a garden nursery that is built from concrete, you have to ask yourself a) how deep is your pocket B) how nuch time you will devote to this project c) this problem will never end, seal it properly for it to be trouble free

Good luck with you project and i welcome more posts and their advice, it's good to learn from other people.

  12. When i first came to this country i had the same thoughts as the poster of this thread,, do something to earn a little cash, as time goes on i realise (as do thousands) of other ex-pats who live here that if you don't have sufficient funds to live here without working you will be in serious trouble down the line,,, here are a few lines that i keepreminding myself daily

*** the way to make a small fortune in this country is to bring a large fortune in the beginning when you come here

*** work visas, good luck to you

*** work what work for how much, i employed a loal bricklayer to help me build a house for $5 an hour, i'll pay you the same and you work from 7 am until at least 6pm

*** did you hear about the guy who bought his girlfriend a coffee shop, he didn't have a work visa, immigration guy took a photo of him holding a coffee mug behind the counter, he was deported, his visa cancelled HE WAS WORKING said immigration

And it goes on and on and on, remember we are visitors in this country, the locals get priority and everyone else gets out money.

If anyone knows of any falang westerner not falang of asian origin actually making money in this country (profit) please i would love to know about it because i have not heard of anyone yet (legally) i do know of people who work part time, internet work but it

does not involve physical work time in thailand, mainly internet work that is for off shore companies, that i think is OK.

    Good luck everyone.

  13. Between Oasis gogo and Seaside 2 resturant, there is a bar that employ men to plesure woman.

Barfine for a white boy is 700 baht, or at least was, of which you get to keep half.

You also get an income for each beer that a woman buys you, and of cource a good tip for a night. It is very late working hours, or should i say early ?

Five star hotels also provide woman with services, but this really require connection to get a foot in

    clap2.gifclap2.gif Great post!

Could you give me directions please, my bar girl says i am hansum man, i need a part time job also.
  14. Now that this has been announced formally, does anyone know when or if it will actually happen? I have an international to domestic connection booked in June, with the domestic flight on Air Asia. If Air Asia moves to the old airport then I'm definitely going to lose the 1100 baht I paid for the ticket and will have to buy a new one. Haven't heard anything from Air Asia yet on a change of airports.

I was at the airport (Swampy) yesterday 16/03/12 and asked the same question and i was told only the budget Airlines were going and already there, Nok Air, and Bangkok Air,, Air Asia were goign to stay in Swampy (for now at least)
  15. Send the Russians to Don Muang.

Only joking, although the more I think about it, they are one of the few high volume (boy are they high volume), mostly single Thai destination users, of Swampy. Put on a regular bus service to Pattaya/Jomtien and Bob's your uncle.

[For non Brit linguists "Bob's your uncle" is a curious (probably very old fashioned now) expression meaning "success!" or "it works!"]

You know, now that i think about it you are 100% correct and what a business venture it would be,, in Pattaya and Jomtien the Russians are building skyscrapers at an alarming rate and someone has to fill them,, think about it, thousands of Ruskis with only one destination, great idea, someone will make a lot of money out of this,, probably the Russians.
  16. That's why I avoid ever going to London,, i live in the south of Portugal and i do the monsoon run to Portugal

i hate London full stop, i go Bangkok, Berlin, Faro in Portugal and i'm home, travel is getting to be a real pain

in the neck, i remember going Swampy to Don Muang, although there are free busses, the congestion is still

an issue, i remember reading a post from a nice person who said "What about priority Bus Lanes between

both Airports" sorry for writing that, i should have known better, i remember what country im in now.

  17. Just got back from a week of relaxing in Cambodia

met a group of Aussies, one guy who has lived there

a long time, Geoff, told me the ins and out's of the

country, i don't remember most of them except for

the one about the governmen't law on marriage..

"Anyone 50 years or over cannot legally marry

    a Cambodian lady"

Message sent while typing with one hand and

    packing with the other...

You will never hear this in Thailand

  18. Suggest you ask your mrs.

From what I have seen, most guys end up living in the back of beyond because thats where there mrs is from.

Plenty of time to learn new hobbies such as counting how many buffalo in the paddy opposite your house, what time in the morning the village speakers are going to kick off, you dont love your wife as much as the farang in the next village who gives his mrs 100k baht every month etc etc.

Do what suits you, but make sure your mrs is on the same page, if not wait for the money making opportunities to be presented to you, invest in a snow shoe rental business, employ the worthless family as tour guides, etc etc.

Sorry to be cynical, but you photo shows you as a young guy, what the hell do you want to come to an elephants graveyard for?

It seems we have something in common,, i was going to write the exact same words as you, do we know each other as we share the same story. People reading please note that in thailand it's the woman who controls the purse and the household not the man, you will end up living in her village with her family, like it or not.
  19. A few years ago i built a custom chopper, in Sydney (factory built) not backyard job, great looking machine, a year later i got my retirement visa to live in Thailand, i sent my belongings in 2 large crates to Thailand (first mistake) and then i tried to import my bike here as well, it is brand new, never ridden for displaying in custom bike and car shows, but i wanted to have it here in Thailand, went to the customs department in Bangkok, went through all the offices in all the floors, a young worker who spoke English translated the rules and regulations, ended up at Suvarnabhumi airport (import-export) offices next to the airport, i had a friend of mine do all this with me, he is a lawyer who speaks Thai and English very well,,, i built this chopper with all brand new parts for about $5000.00 AUD, it's what i do,,, after all the calculations were done by all the relevant departments, export from Australia,, import from Thailand,, 300% tax paid on the value calculated by the Thai customs department (note that) it was calculated that my Thai customs etc bill would be around $20,000.00 AUD, the bike is still in Sydney wrapped in cling wrap gathering dust,, People out there, read this and learn from us that have been there,, it's not worth it in any way form or manner, i was later told about the gray importers although i have decided not to persue the matter any further,,NOT WORTH IT AT ALL
