If you dont have a copy of the lease then you have zero chance of any protection; not that there would be much anyhow. With out evidence of a lease or money's paid up for any time periods the police could be called to throw you out for trespassing at any time.
I think that Up until the end of the period you have paid for if a week or months notice, both is reasonable. The owner sounds fair enough offering you another room after you pre paid time expires i assume and if you don't happen to like it then find another place to live. It's not your property and the owner wants it for thier own daughter; what makes you think you have more moral right than she to live in the place?
Be nice to the landlady and cross you fingers that you get your deposit back.
I failed to mention that they said they were sorry and that they would refund us the entire deposit if we didn't want the new room. See my update after I reply to everyone...

We don't have a copy of the lease because they never dropped a copy off after we signed it. They also didn't give us a time when they wanted us out, but the tone was "immediately."
You need to ask them when you they want you to leave. It's no good trying to guess from their tone. Get things clarified. Probably best to move, as it could become unpleasant if you stay, even if you are in the right.
Did you read the lease before signing it?
Yeah, we read it. But it was barely a legal contract. They took us on our word and theirs on ours. I have more info which I'll post after responding to the rest of the posters on this list...

My girlfriend and I and newborn baby have lived in the same apartment in Surin for the past 6-7 months. It's really great. Nice and cheap. It's out of the way....we've grown to like it. This morning the landlord called us and told us she wants us to leave so her daughter can move in and how this room is special because of some Buddha prayer or something. She offered us a smaller room at the end of the row that has no aircon, which, of course is out of the question since hot season is just about upon us.
In my home country of America a landlord can't just kick you out without good reason or at least have to give you ample notice.
What is the law here in Thailand concerning renting and evicting tenants?
Any advice would be appreciated. Do you think the tourism police would be able to help?
Thanks.

My B Visa expires March 7th yet my WP expires March 31st.
What do I need to get an extension for my B Visa? My passport and work permit? Or is there something else?
Also, if I get an extension now, will they extended it from the date of expiry or the actual date I get it processed?
Thanks!

"I am getting paid via ATM. I have a feeling that the agency is doing this so they can pocket the money they are getting from the school."
I think a lot of people get their money through direct deposit.
You have a feeling? I know you never thought the agency was finding you a job for free...
What else would the agency do with their money?
Not sure about Cambodia, but Laos does require the WP to be applied for prior to applying for the visa.
Ask the school if any of their past teachers have had a WP.
Actually the agency found me. But that's besides the point. From reading the other posts, I can tell my "feeling" is right. I just know they are getting way more than what they are paying me, which is 30k.
As far as who to get the documents from? We (there is another teacher in the same predicament as me) are asking the school and the agency both, for all the required stuff. The next thing we hear is that we need a teachers license as well!
I think Alice had a better time in that dam_n rabbit hole.

Thanks Wayne. Yes, this is turning into quite a nightmare. The agency is definitely giving me the runaround. But I'm getting all sorts of answers from different people. Some say that you don't need a work-permit to get a Non-B and others say you need the Non-B, first and then you can get a work permit. I am getting paid via ATM. I have a feeling that the agency is doing this so they can pocket the money they are getting from the school.
I don't know how long I can keep up with flying in and out of the country every 30 or 60 days.
Sigh.

Hello everyone. I'm hoping I can get a good answer for this question, because the agency I'm hired through isn't worth a wooden nickel.
I work at a government school in Pathum Thani.
I want to get a Non-B Visa.
I am going to Cambodia to get it.
What are ALL of the documents I need to make this happen?
I just want a single entry, 90 day.
I appreciate your help.

I'm in the same exact situation as the starter of the thread.
I live in Pathum Thani... (I work in Samkhok which is obviously closed) I've been under water here for a couple weeks, having to take a rowboat to the local Tesco for supplies. But the apartment I'm living in has run out of water to sell us.
My fiance and I are going to take a boat to the Tesco and catch two military vehicles and a taxi to Bangkok.
The agency I work for is horrible and lies to me all the time. They haven't helped at all with my documents as far as Non-B and work permits and stuff. I'm working, but only with a Tourist Visa.
My visa runs out November fourth and my fiance (from Laos) has a visa that runs out on the 3rd.
We are doing the only thing we can, and that's getting the heck outta here.
I wouldn't trust Thai immigration to help you at all. Take your situation into your own hands and get outta dodge on your own. It's the only sure way...
Cambodia, here I come! lol

My fiance and I bought a 10 Baht head of cabbage for 40 baht.
The only place that isn't gouging is the Tesco.
btw... we've been in Pathum Thani, in our room for over two weeks now.
They have run out of water to sell us. Our only recourse is to head to BKK and find a place for a couple days before we have to do our visa runs.

You must leave the Kingdom. If you leave by land border and return you get 15 days, by air 30 days, these are visa exempt entries, to get a tourist Visa you must visit a Thai Consulate in a neighboring country. The success of your application may depend on your previous visa history, how many what type etc.
Thank you for your reply. I am aware of everything you stated. I was just curious about the most inexpensive route to take... like what bordering country is the cheapest to visit by plane? Or the cheapest to get a tourist visa from...
thanks....

Hello...
Where is the cheapest/easiest place to get a tourist visa for Thailand?
I was thinking of going to Phnom Penh for a few days, but how are the prices? The last time I got a tourist visa was in Vientiane and that place was quite expensive... How does Cambodia compare?
Any advice or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
Also, is there any way of getting a Tourist Visa without having to leave Thailand?
Thanks!

So, it turns out the father got sick a couple weeks ago. Maybe they think that us staying in the room we are in caused it. They call it Heung Chui. From what I gather, Heung Chui is luck for the family or house depending on it's place and positioning. We've been there for six months, so I just find it very strange that they pick NOW to use this bullshit religious excuse. Either way, we've found a few options and we'll have a new place within a week.
