  1. It seems every area has taken on as much water as possible and then 'passed it on' to the next area. Last stop before BKK is Pathum Thani. This was given to me via translation so it may not be 100% accurate but it seems BKK are asking for no water to be passed on. i.e, let Pathum Thani drown along with a million or so folks. The water will then make its way south anyway. Again, this is through translation but I was told the governors of BKK and Pathum Thani are at loggerheads over this. I think the main dude in Pathum Thani will pull some weight as it is a fairly 'hi-so' area along with many industrial estates which form one of the major economic attributes the country has.

I'm no expert but the water wants to (and will) flow south. I believe the Pathum Thani area want to let the water out slowly (as everyone else has done).

Again, all this could be <deleted> as there is so much different info around it's confusing.

    Best of luck all.

  2. Great morning I had! After being told that our mooban should be ok my wife came into the bedroom this morning whilst I was sleeping. I woke up and could hear loudspeakers. I asked 'what are they saying'. She said 'The water is coming. They are saying about 1.5 metres'. I asked 'When?'..she casually replied 'Now'.

Jumped out of bed and ran downstairs to move everything upstairs in a semi panic. Being Thai my wife casually went for ashower and asked me what I was worrying about. 'Drowning' I bellowed...'and what the <deleted> are you doing in the shower at this time'?

Nothing yet (hours later) but the roads outside the mooban are about 40cm deep. Hope the walls hold (that they've built on the entrance) or we could be knee deep downstairs.

BTW, I'm about 2km south of Dreamworld in the Pathum Thani/Thanyaburi area.

The effort by the locals has been brilliant, almost touching. However, the constant change in info is very frustrating and causes nothing but panic. I don't scare easily this morning but I almost shat myself after that warning.

  3. Speaking to a few Thais they know nothing about WW2. Only about the Thai/Burma wars.

One Thai told me that Thais watch a lot of movies. About WW2. They see it as fictional.

Hitler is Darth Vader and the SS are the Stormtroopers. That's basically how this can happen. History is not taught in schools here and geography is aslo ignored. I teach Prathom and I do 'sneak' in some geography stuff here and there where possible. When a 10 year old thinks London is in Asia...you need to do something about it. Imagine a Thai moving to the UK and saying in a bar 'I hope Spurs win today against Man Utd as I always support teams from Asia'. He would be labelled a total dumbass.

To be fair on the Hitler thing, my wife said (about 4 years ago) Thais think Hitler is far too evil to be a believable person. He must be a movie character. She then saw an episode of 'The World at War' which I have. Seeing old footage of piles of dead jews being bulldozered into pits shook her up. Show this doc in schools at P5/P6 level. That should sort it out for good.

  4. First post.

Live near Dreamworld (about 2 kilometres south). That map above has me confused. Ayutthaya is to the north and slightly east of Pathum Thani.

On other maps (inc Google) it's to the north west. We have been told that we should be OK but to take precautions. So many different stories on TV, via loudspeaker etc it's mental! Not a worrier but this is keeping me awake.
