  1. My (Thai) wife has an ILR visa for the UK. We'd like to keep it as we will probably be moving back over there in a few years (I want our son to go to school in the west)

But we've been here (Thailand) for nearly 2 years straight now, well a year and a half to be precise.

I have read that after 2 years of continuous stay outside of the UK the ILR gets revoked. How do I prevent this from happening?

If we go to the UK before the 2 years is up,

    • How long would she have to be there?

    • What would she have to do?

    • Would the clock reset on the 2 years before it would would be revoked (though we would actually be back before that time)

    Any help is much appreciated.

  2. I just don't like the idea of being without my passport. If anything happened and I was asked to prodice it the answer 'it's at immigration in a different province' may not go down so well.

If the 40k per month is being deposited into a Thai account, but I don't work here (i.e. have no work permit) would I still need a letter from the embassy?

  3. Oh, I see. One or the other.

If it's the 400K then it has to be there for 60 days first right?

Now if I go for the show of at least 40K per month (which I can do) then I just photocopy at least 2-3 months worth of my bank book to show my income right?

Combine that with the rest of the documents (photos, marriage certificates) and I can get it done right away right?

How long does it take to process? I was told by someone in immigration that it would take to 2 weeks. WHich will kind of affect some of my (domestic) travel plans.

    Thanks for the help!

  4. Thanks guys. I thought it was 1,900 but had been told... 'different' amounts by my local immigration.

So, short of leaving the country I basically have to show the income and cash in the bank?

Why do they have to make it so difficult? What happens if someone genuinely wants to be here with his family, doesn't make 40K and doesn't know anyone the will lend him 400K?

The poor guy would be screwed.

  5. I currently have a non-O visa based on the fact that I have a Thai wife and son. I'm on my second such visa and now it's got to the point where I have to extend it from 90 days to one year. However, there are requirements that have to be met. I was told I would need

    • Photos of the family

    • Our marriage certificate

    • 2 passport photos

    • 400,000 baht in the bank which has been there for more than 60 days and photocopies of the bank book to prove it.

Now, the first three are not a problem. The fourth however is. I don't have 400K sitting in my bank. I suppose I could borrow this money and put it in there; but what I'm actually mors curious is that the first time I got this visa (just over a year ago) i did not need to show money in the bank, I seem to recall it had something to do with the fact that I have a Thai child. The visa was obtained from Birmingham in the UK.

This time however I am in the country. Does anyone know if it is possible to bypass having to put money in the bank on the basis that I am here to be with my family?

Also, what is the official cost of this extension?

  6. What type of Non O do you have, you can get a WP on some Non O's

My Non O is on the basis that I am married to a Thai. So could I, theoretically make a trip out of the country and then as I come back in say 'please cancel my Non O visa and put me on a tourist visa'?

I know that they would gove me a funny look but I'm sure I could explain it to them - maybe eve get the lawyer to prepare paperwork explaining it and then just hand that to them.

  7. Easier and more effective to put an awning above the window , I have reflective shield on a couple of widows and it does reduce heat penetration with a small loss of light . 6m.m clear plastic sheet on a frame works well placed outside of the window with about a 4/5 cm spacing between window and plastic . With cement walls it helps to paint with heat reflective material unless you have cavity walls with insulating material in the space between walls , cement holds the heat for a long time .

How well would an awning stand up to extreme weather? Because we've had a lot of it lately - the winds were so strong a while back that it actually blew a massive billboard rigging.

I also considered decent blinds, but the thing is I have a one year old son, and those blinds would probably be great fun to play with/break.

  8. I currently have a Non imm O visa and will need to get a Non imm B visa for the application of my work permit. The lawyer that I have doing it seems to think that if I were on a tourist visa and apply it would all be straight forward, but because I'm on a Non O it's really difficult.

    Is this true?

Doesn't make much sense, either which way it's a case of cancelling the visa I currently have and applying for a B visa.

Can anyone help me in terms of what I have to do?

    Anu help is much appreciated.

  9. Yeah I kind of thought that as they are clear, they would just let light/heat in regardless, but there are those that say it does have a good heat reducing ability... but I can't help but notice all of these comments seem somehow linked with a company that sells the stuff. As for what Warpspeed was saying - it does seem to work on car windows right?

So it should work on windos at home as well... right?

Failing that, what about those curtains that have that kind of reflective gray material on them? The only thing is that I imagine it would put the room into complete darkness.

  10. I can't find any definitive answers on this - only conflicting information.

But the fact of the matter is that my windows get the full on sun from sunrise, almost until sunset. The airconditioner just seems to lose the battle and we're all melting in my condo. Does that window film really work? It's supposed to stop UV rays etc - only it's not the UV rays that deliver the heat is it?

So, rather than go into all the science of it all - has anyone put any of it on their windows and did it make a difference?

Flight of the Gibbon Chonburi is now hiring 'Sky Rangers'. Sky rangers are the guides that take our customers flying through the trees in our jungle canopy adventure. The role requires people who are physically fit and ability to speak English will be a definite advantage.

  12. Are you looking at the visa or your permission to stay stamp?

    TH

Permission to stay stamp. My visa is still good until July sometime.

From what you werwe saying (Poor Sucker). Do I have to do a border run one way or the other? i.e. they will stamp it at immigration if I can prove that I will be leaving the same day? Because if that's the case then I may as well just leave and come back with a fresh stamp.

  13. If you come off Sukhumvit more or less opposite Underwaterworld, Soi Nong Kraborg(Sp) about 100m after you cross the railway line on you left there is a massive recycling place i always take mine there, top prices, has a weighbridge inside too if you are talking about big ammounts.

Thanks for that guys. I'll check it out.

  14. I thought I had till the end of the month left on my Non O visa (I'm married to a Thai). But I looked in my passport yesterday to find that I was supposed to get a stamp/do a border run on the 16th.

I know these rules always seem to be changing - what is the current procedure? I have to go to immigration? and pay... how much? A flat fee or a daily rate? Also - where is the immigration office in Pattaya these days? Down in Jomtien somewhere right?

  15. I've got stacks of scrap metal that I may as well sell. I know that Back in the UK it was pretty easy to find somewhere to sell it and you would get a good price.

But does anyone know anywhere around Pattaya where I could sell it? Or maybe around Sriratcha or Laem Chabang? They seem like quite industrial areas.

  16. We are looking for a Thai national to fill the role of assistant manager at a busy tourist attraction near Pattaya and help the running of one of our offices. Thank you for your time,

  17. I am the operations manager of a busy tourist attraction near Pattaya; we have a lot of Russian customers and so I am looking to hire someone who speaks both Russian and English to be 'head greeter' and lead the team we have in place for greeting customers and preparing them for the day ahead. If you are interested or would like to know more then please PM me.

    Thank you for your time,

    Keith

  18. When you left Thailand in 2006 many of us applied for the PR in 2006 and still waiting for the results so if it is not immidiate for you then you can start the earnings now and then apply in 2013 after paying all the required taxes and then wait 4-5 years for the announcments if your PR approved then again apply for the Thai citizenship and then wait for some more years.

May I ask how old are you?:guitar:

I'm 29 and planning on living here permanently. I've got a thai wife and son plus a lot of family retired here. So I'd like to be in a situation where I didn't have to worry about work permits, visas etc and can have my own business. I know it's going to be a long drawn out process which is why I may as well start setting things up as early as I can.

  19. this page here seems pretty good. But I've heard people say you have to be here 10 years, you have to be here 5 years, if you're married to a Thai you can do it in 3. Having children helps/doesn't make a difference. You have to pay taxes for 3 years/you have to have paid 40,000 in taxes and it doesn't matter over what time period and many many other bits that I've heard several different variations of.

I know that someone was saying they did it in this post but they seem to have been banned now, so I can't ask him any questions.

  20. I've heard so many things about Thai citizenship, widely varying on what is required etc and how different situations have different requirements. Mine is:

I've been married to a Thai for 6 years.

We have a son with Thai (and British) nationality.

I speak, read and write Thai fluently.

I lived here full time from 2003-2006 went back to the UK, and just came back fairly recently to live here permanently

I want to get citizenship so that I don't need to worry about work permits and visas, can own land and can have my own company.

So where do I start? What are the steps involved? What's the time frame?

  21. Hi there. How does it work for Foreign freelancers in thailand? i.e. journalists, photographers etc etc.

I've recently returned to Thailand and am hoping to be able to work in VFX but a lot of that work is freelance based even in the UK and most other countries. I mean there are companies that will properly hire, but they're hard to find as when it comes down to it the companies themselves have to constantly hunt for and win projects, so they usually like to pay their workers on a project to project basis.

If I could get something where I was hired fulltime obviously that would be ideal; if not, how does freelancing work here?

  22. Hi there, I'll be moving to Thailand soon and shipping some stuff along. My wife's thai so it'll be going in her name so that we don't get hit with taxes etc.

But my main question is should I arrange door to door or door to port?

I'm, sure that I heard somewhere that it's better to go door to port, and that my wife would have to go there show her passport and most likely give someone a... how should I word this? The guy will want a little somethings for his troubles, so in true thai style he'll want some money to slip into his back pocket.

But the shipping companies that I've spoken to say that they send an agent from there office in BKK to the port, the agent has a copy of my wife's passport, they sort out the customs guy and deliver the consignment to our house. It costs a bit extra of course, but roughly how much would the customs guy want? Would it be comparable to the amount paid to then get it delivered to my door? Can the agent really sort that stuff out? Which route would be easiest i.e. the least amount of headache?

  23. So just to be sure about this - I can go to the Consulate in Birmingham? (it's easier for me than Hull, plus the consulate is right near the train station)

I looked around on their website and found this page

    http://www.thailand-visa.com/NonImmigrantVisa.html

but I can't find on there whether or not I need to make n appointment or if I can just turn up in the morning.

    Anyone know?

So looking through this, I guess it's just my passport, photos, marriage cert and money needed (and the app form of course). Is that correct?
