  1. Id get the isuzu over the chev if resale is a concern but if chev has more incentives then id consider them. The ford ranger 2.2 auto 4dr xlt was great and within your price range but id inquire when delivery is or if you are fine with the looks check out the mazda bt50, these are more substantial trucks than the chev/isuzu offering. I think the toyota is too long in the tooth, the nissan navara is dangerous in a collision, the triton is a decent truck which has less road presense but is a great drive and marginally easier to drive the back sois.

edit: just read about crash safety comments above.

Of course a sedan will have better active safety if driven with equal care in same conditions as the heavier large pickup is less gainly in evasive manuevers (though i do well enough with mine). Its the passive safety of the truck which matters, trucks ride higher and are heavier this leads to a much better outcome for the truck in a collision with a sedan. Nissan navara, old dmax/colorado and ranger/bt50 had dangerous offset results, but the new trucks especially the ranger appear to test very well. With side airbags on the 3.2wild track id rather be in that ranger than my e65 7 series in a collision. Number 1 safety measure is not airbags or a cars structural integrity its the drivers ability and judgement.

  2. laugh.png wow 8 - 12months wait on an old IMV platform SUV, thats like buying the sportrider in 2005. Id see what the new replacement will look like, or the chev trailblazer but if your willing to wait id consider the fortuner replacement because your setting yourself up for heavy depreciation, perhaps we may get an idea what the new Everest will look like this year, I check online but nothing concrete at all. That 470nm for the chev is a peak torque (good for marketing). Be interesting if Mazda produced a PPV of their BT50 like the everest I plan to buy if its ever made available....coffee1.gif
  3. I saw a wildtrack 2.2 in chonburi yesterday driving into a mall, wasnt a showtruck either by looks of it.

I dont see there being debate between these, the vigo is almost a decade old, the vigo was class leading and was a massive improvement over the tiger but it is completely outclassed by the new ranger. Id only compare the 2 if the vigo came with an equaly noticeble lower price. If it wasnt such an obvious difference id of given up waiting for it, pisses me off everytime i jump in the triton or pass a ford dealership but i know itll be worth the wait having rented the ranger xlt for 2 weeks.

  4. Yep you are my height, I cant get my legs under the vigo at all and im also too cramped for the new dmax/chev because the tilt is far less generous than the previous model. I drove around in a rental ranger 2.2 for 2 weeks earlier this month. the 2.2 has adequate power enough to be a consideration (this comming from someone who usually buys the 3.0 option) main reason im opting for the 3.2 is i want the safety features not yet available on the xlt or 2.2 variants. I think its a little sluggish sometimes darting away from the u turn, also taking a slope needs to be done with care as there is no diff lock and will lose traction and spin out the raised wheel. the comfort is great though need to lower the tire pressure to reduce bouyant ride. The 6spd auto sport mode is decent and provides a much faster acceleration but you will pay for this spirited performance at the pump. accomodations are much more generous and makes the vigo and triton feel dated and the previous class stradas, tigers, etc feel agricultural.

Annoyed about the delays as much as everyone else, but buying anything else other than the mazda if you can stomach the looks in my oppinion would be as foolish as buying a tiger in 2004 because you cant wait for the vigo. Its just a world apart.

  5. id reconsider on the vigo mate, i remember when the vigo came out it was so much more substantial inside and especially outside than the previous tiger and had a roadholding presence which in my oppinion looked better than the triton, navara and ranger pickups and suvs, but now its really long in the tooth. the interiors were never amazing but now they just feel dated when compared to the new dmax but especially the ranger. At risk of comming off as the forum ford fanboy but im very impressed with the 2.2l i drove around 2 weeks, has a big truck feel to it (for los standards), whilst not as practical in the back sois is something worth waiting for in my oppinion. pisses the hell out of me the way the perpetual delays come, might as well call it the 2013 by the time it does come but id rather own the 2.2l over a full option vigo and thats testament to how much more refined and substantial i feel the ranger is. I hated the outgoing model and couldnt say enough about how the ford everest was nasuea enducing on account of its leaf spring rear but im set to buy both the ranger wt and then everest. Im just currious if fords latest splash is going to encourage toyota to make another leap past the competition as they did back in 2004/5 with the IMVII

  6. Locking rear differentials are good if have a 2wd truck and most of them didnt, i remember that was one of chevy's point of differentiation from the dmax it rebadged...i drove a ranger 2.2 last week up a steep incline at angle and lost traction. The first rain after awhile can be the most risky but in general i just take corners with more respect and slow my speed down, never any fishtailing or issues so never used my 4wd before, though it came in handy offroad. AWD is a great assistance in the wet though, drove an impreza which maintained great pose and traction throughout.

  7. meh, not a fan of the raptor look. i think the wt would look better if it retained the chromed door handles, grill and mirors. im sure there is aftermarket solutions available, id go with the xlt if it came with the extra airbags and features on the wt model. Will replace my truck with the 3.2 WT chilli orange if it ever becomes available, stopped inquiring at ford when, will just wait and buy when available.

  8. Hopefully the release of the trailblazer will encourage ford to spill some beans on the everest, especially if the designs and everything is done. would love to know what design cues from the explorer carried over or if it retains its ranger esk looks....the explorer had quite nice front lights id like to see a ppv that diverges aesthetically from its truck base up front as well as back if only slightly

  9. I finished an instal on a friends accord 08, i use metradash kit and cleaned up the messy button layout on it....looks really clean, with the ranger MRO is right you stand to lose a lot of the functionality, with the accord for example only the aircon feedback works on the oem display, the rest of the info is displayed on the 2din 7" display. as stefan said theres likely to be an aftermarket kit made available for this and more importantly the everest when available....still crossing my fingers for a q4 release, is there any concrete information or pictures on the everest yet, amazing no leaks just yet.

  10. Im renting a 2.2L ford ranger xlt, very happy with it and while i would rather have the wildtrack be waiting for me at home, im not in LOS too much next few months and so renting is fine for the time being. The colorado/dmax isnt as spacious as the dated previous model, im sure the safety is a lot better but the cabin is much more cramped largely due to limited tilt. The ranger has very generous space and even better safety, im very happy that the top model will come with curtain airbags, the previous model is so dated it must be like buying a toyota tiger in 2004 before the vigo arrived. Im so happy i didnt buy the nissan navara or chev and will wait it out for the 3.2 with the features i want. Just a shame the top line wildtrack lacks the chrome finish of the xlt which i think looks classier. Either way i will get chrome accents on the everest whenever that arrives, I just want to see one. be great to quence the suspense over the interior and exterior.

  11. Thanks, thats good to know. Im not living in Bangkok but i remember seeing all the service spots for audi and vw in HK/new territories and lamenting the lack of garages with diagnostics. Id own european as i do outside of thailand if i knew i could get affordable and proper support especially down in patters thumbsup.gif

  12. Id rather have the xlt too, especially since they come with chrome accents usually associated with the premium models not the base model esk plastic, that said the chilli orange works well with the black and resale will be higher on the WT, Im most interested in the proper side airbags and will wait for that, by the time the 2012 wt is finally released it might as well be a 2013.

  13. I remember when the skoda was a big laugh in the 80s, they even made light of it in their print adverts. Now days they are actually great cars. Id take a skoda superb awd over any fwd d segment car (such as accord, cam or teana). A shame there isnt any support for them in thailand so wouldnt be tempted to buy one along with vw and audi no matter the price.

  14. great the Ranger wildrack 3.2 will be debuting for 1.049 mil especially as i dont plan on getting much in the way of concessions as I will be buying when available. Spoke to the dealership few days ago who advised me the price, still hoping the everest will be available end of this year or more concrete information will be out especially given the trailblazer will be out sooner.

The chev/isuzu offering is more of an extension of the previous generation inside and out, reminds me of the navara, the new ranger/bt50 may only be a little more refined and substantial but that little bit goes a long way makes me question whether toyota can afford to delay the imv2. will be interesting to see the new nissan/mitsu platform and their pickup suv offerings sometime this year.

  15. Yes LOS doesnt offer the same level of passive safety as highlighted by the mere 2 front airbags in focus, cube, jazz, etc, but a good mate of mine is contemplating a civic, told him the EL came with vsa, HID and 4 airbags, i know civics in aus come with torso, dual front and curtain airbags, but not sure whether the LOS civic comes with the more important curtain airbag which spans to the rear or just the seat mounted torso..

cheers for any information on this jap.gif

  16. true brand differentiation for the premium line similar to honda acura nissan infiniti.

I find it rediculous there isnt a lexus corner in the toyota down in pattaya or even chonburi, id be inclined to buy a second hand one as they tend to be more reliable than benz and bmw and give you the advantage of rwd if looking at non es line, they do have some toyota imports (no lexus distinction in japan) so have the is300 aka toyota alteeza and the toyota aristo aka the gs300 both with the 2jz licklips.gif ....might be able to get service for those at a toyota dealership, either way lexus depreciates faster than the germans and makes a good 2nd hand purchase if you stick to BKK as dealership support is pretty limited.

  17. Where do you go for servicing volvos, audis, vws and all these european cars (id rather own) inside bkk but more importantly outside of bkk? I have a 740il in HK with no problems whatsoever, but since i cannot work on engines past approx 2000 myself or at local coconut garages im apprehensive, closest service is nelson haus over an hour away up in chonburi, Have a good friend who owns 2nd hand Sclass in bkk whos shelled out well over a mill in the less than 2 yrs hes owned it, youd think it was a lemon but from ive heard similar grief from friends with other european cars including high ransoms also paid to bmw.

  18. high hp on a fwd thats gonna be balls with all that torque steer to contend with when pushed, ive driven preludes, celica, an fto and other fwd sporty coupes and they dont inspire much confidence when pushed unlike their awd equivalents. transverse mitsu gto was better on track, either way if youre looking at spirited driving with over 200hp you wouldnt really consider anything which wasnt rwd. a shame most (if not all) the sub 1.5 mil easy/affordable to service in thailand cars are fwd aside from the pickups of course.

If i was Threadstarter Newtobkk id hold out for the new focus if they decided to offer side airbag protection, something i was suprised even the top line outgoing focus lacked unlike the mazda3 with 6 or 8 airbags. The diesel focus makes a case for fuel economy even when driven with a firm foot, wish it wasnt just ford and chevy which offered non-pickup vehicles with a diesel

  19. Restoring a classic bmw e30 and e34 i want finished, would do most the work myself at home but everytime ive been back to LOS i simply havent had the time to work on it. I havent had many good experiences with shops in pattaya doing good work or finishing the work, customer cars ive observed seemed to just sit for years! never been a problem in the past i would do most work myself.

appreicate any advice or reccomendations on shops in pattaya/sri racha area

also if anyone knows a place where i can source bmw rubber for coupe doors and windows for e30 and e34?

checked a few spots in ban phli but no luck, the replacement stuff available was in worse condition that what i was replacing!ermm.gif

    cheers jap.gif
