From what English teachers here have told me, schools prefer American teachers over other nationalities.   True?  I can't see them getting many Americans to fly this far to teach for what is considered low pay in the US.

I don’t think it’s the monthly salary that is at the top of the mind but rather other benefits.

im sure there will be 1000’s of 55 year old western guys lining up.

  2. I think it is definitely possible but not sure about 'fashion marketing'..

I know a girl that did a sort of internship for a lawyer.

From memory she was German and her employer was a different nationality.

There were not one of those strange Thai law offices but rather a legit operation. I think they were involved with a lot of the manufacturing and worked on patent and international law.

"I don't know much about these things, but wouldn't they be trying to stop say Chinese investors buying up Australian properties, and then after a time selling them?
These people are only investing and driving up the house prices, then selling for big profits."

Chinese and Koreans doing the same in California.

Low interest for cash money. They invest the cash on properties and properties prices/rent pulling up sharply every year. Rent is already crazy high in San Francisco. LA will be the same soon.

It is worse than that actually.

Property is being bought up by non residents and then left sit vacant.

    Causing a huge housing problem.

  4. I would say relax for now as it will just be a draft.

Also they will calculate it on that 2012 value. Which is open to opinion.

So property bought after 2012 already had lost CGT exemption.

So lets say in the 90' you bought a 150,000 house that is now worth 400,000. But had an estimated value of 320,000 in 2012.

You are looking at a $24,000 tax bill instead of a $12,000 tax bill.

Not a great situation but the world is not coming to an end.

Well that's interesting because there are more thais in los angeles than in any city in Thailand outside of Bangkok or Chiang Mai.  So I really don't know what the hell you are talking about regarding Thais not wanting to go to the US.  How is that relevant to being a fair policy.

    Please reference that figure.

    I dont believe it....

easy to do yourself, a conversion within Thailand from the visa exempt to a non immigrant 'o' visa, (2,000 baht)and then a yearly extension, (1,900 baht) coupled with a multi re-entry permit (3,800 baht) for trips abroad,

will require financials of 65,000 per month income, or 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account in his name,

loads of threads on here do some research

I did some research and went to Siam legals website and found a sticking point. Everything looked straightforward except the conversion from the visa exempt stamp to the non immigrant O. Many say it can be done but Siam legals site says it needs to be done from your home country.

Why scammers? They provide real visas, issued by the Immigration. Hundreds of retirees in Pattaya can confirme and are more than happy with their service, especially because they also provide the necessary needed financial requirements.

Can you recommend one to me by pm.

I want to try and get the ball rolling on this one for my dad tomorrow.

  8. I'm a long time lurker but my dad has an issue I'm hoping to get some advice on.

Happy to have a Pattaya visa shop pm me and we can meet them.

The situation is my dad a 60 year old Australian passport holder came over to visit arriving on the 30 day visa waiver program.

He does a lot of business in Asia and is happy to make Thailand his base.  Anyway I spoke to an old mate and he said something about a no questions asked retirement visa and quoted a ridiculous rate. I smell a scam.

So can someone give me some advice on this process.

From what I gather he should have arrived on some type of non immigrant visa and then they change this too a multi entry retirement visa once he shows proof of income or money in the bank. My questions is does he need to go back to Oz to get this non immigrant visa or can he get this in say Singapore when he goes there on business. Is there an easier option?

My mate said don't worry about the income as they have this slide of hand thing going on with the bank but truthfully he can get a letter from his accountant stating  monthly income exceeding the limit or he can transfer money to a Thai bank account if a bank will let him open one.

We want to get the ball rolling so happy to have a visa company contact me or happy for someone to recommend one.

    Thanks for any advice....

  9. We got to about 2 months before my son was born and we were talking on a chat program one night. I mentioned it would be the right thing to do if we got married before he was born.

She agreed as her dad had been on her about paperwork.

On my arrival back to bangkok we went down and registered our marriage for 20 baht. Paid the 500 baht bribe that was requested.

We then went to Pizza company for lunch as I loved the salad bar.

Her dad then went about spending a small fortune changing ownership structure on properities they had so there was no chance of the farang getting any.

We have now been happily married for 8 years (detect sarcaism).

How do I know this? Well we were walking past a jewellery shop today and my wife mentioned to me that if we make ten years then I'm to buy her another ring. Looking already i mentioned, a lot can happen in 2 years.

  10. I did it in my own country the other day.

Did the shopping and bought three 24 packs of water. Normally they see it and manually put it in. On this day they did not and I was surprised on checking my bill at home.

Also done this with sugar been charged for white sugar when I accidentally put the more expensive raw in my trolley.

Don't worry about it as nothing good can come of it.

Manager might see it as a loss of face that you did this if his superior is there and decide you are a thief and as such they call the police.
