  1. I think you're looking for the ultimate bout of relaxation in behaving that way. :o

Ahh, your presuming I will be driving at the same time? If so your comment makes more sense now.

No, I do not drink and drive and certainly do not condone it. That's what is so relaxing about having a drink on the way home, sit and watch the scenery go by whilst someone else drives.

I that case enjoy the ride and the wine ! :D

  2. The quoted cost of hot water for the shower is probably over and above the cost of running the air conditioning, which is probably relatively expensive overall as the hot water has to travel from the unit to the shower in the bathrrom - way inefficient. You probably only save money on the intial cost of the unit but that is small compared to the cost over the lifetime of the unit.

It doesn't seem convenient or cheap to run the air conditioning for 30 minutes. as one poster wrote, to get a shower for 2 - sounds like camping or caravanning to me. In any case I very seldom use air conditioning so for people like me it would be rather unsuitable. Plz let me know if u come across ceiling fans that can generate hot water or toasters that can flush the loo and I will perk up.

I recently saw one, but you had to put your head in both sequentially. If you repeated it often enough it also gave you hot water....

  3. That you or anyone else managed to deny a Thai wife rights to representation infront of a US/UK court in a divorce is not proof that it is not possible for a foreigner to persue a US/UK citizen in their respective national courts.

You perhaps did very well to keep the divorce in Thailand, but if your wife had been granted access to the US court system the outcome might very well have been different.

And if my Auntie had a pair of something else it would be my Uncle ! :o

  4. Heard good thing about saw palmetto / serenoa repens for reducing the size of prostate, can anyone tell me where i can get some in Pattaya. I am 51 and scored 12 on psa but have on symtems. Many thanks !

Get your priorities right ! 12PSA is very high ! Get a Biopsy done and if it turns out to be benign, then start thinking about palmetto. Even then, make sure you have regular checks performed, to confirm you're still safe.

Benign prostate enlargement, can surprisingly quick turn into full blown prostate cancer. Although generally a slow grower, it is know for its sudden changes in growth rhythm and if you don't have it checked regularly you may be in for nasty surprises. Unfortunately I speak from experience...

  5. :D

Don't know about anyone else bit I have no intention of reading this.

I managed as far as "As the world-at-large..."

Quickly, move faster...you both lost the latest Fox News Sound Bite.... so you're no longer up to date.... :o

  6. It's been an issue long before the military took over, and it's been well documented here and everywhere that the Thai Police (under any government) blocks gambling sites. Do I agree with it? No. Am I really all that worried about it? No, there's much higher things on the priority list.

Same reasoning as the Jewish community in Germany in those days....

  7. When I was assigned to Thailand 10 yrs ago, one way to negotiate down on the rental for a condo, was to have the owner pay for UBC.

Now, I negotiate for the owner to save on his UBC subscription by canceling it and allow me to install a directional disk on the roof.

    :o

  8. In other countries this would have led to real rebellion. Not here - oh, how these guys have brainwashed the masses. You've got to hand it to them in a very perverted sense..They're clever. (But as most of us know, not really, just in their own little Animal Farm enclosure).

It's nice how you want to foment a revolution in Thailand. Before you leave your comfy armchair and start your quest to liberate the downtrodden Thai people, you might want to consider practicing your skills elsewhere. Start with the USA and its political lobbying corruption or protest Scooter Libby's favoured treatment. Or maybe you might want to take a crack at France's ingrained corrupt bureaucracy, or maybe visit the UK and protest the selling of peerages. Try reading some of the briefs put out by the various bar associations and law societies throughout the western world complaining about the lack of access to legal assistance and remedies that the poor encounter.

At least in Thailand a victim can get compensation a lot quicker than having to wait years and years for litigation to wind its way through the courts, assuming of course that the victim in the west has the means to bring the suit.

And remember, if you become so disgusted with the Thai way of life, you do have the option of leaving and going to Utopia or returning to your perfect native land where there is no crime and no injustice.

Your post matches perfectly up with both aspects of your moniker. However, I suggest you find a way to add in the senility aspect, either praecox, due to advanced age or both.

  9. In my UN days one of the big projects UNICEF was fighting was Nestle - they were hitting the mothers with free powdered milk while they were still in hospital after giving birth and telling mothers that it was better for the baby and that the mum would keep her boobs shape better etc etc etc. Good reason to boycott Nestle products - they do this all over the world :o

Thanks for fighting with Nestle's You must be brave going against that big terrible United States Company.

The UN should investigate that terrible America Company.

Nestle happens to be a Swiss company. Unless apparently you seem to know more... :D

  11. There was a study in the 20's in the US about abandoned babies raised in orphanages. Fed three times a day, diapers changed, with 1 attendant per 10 or so babies. Without constant affection, care, and non-basic need attention, these babies withered and died with the survivors often developing severe mental retardation.

Really old people aren't too different from human infants. And humans can't live without love... and love isn't about being warehoused with a bunch of other old folks playing backgammon, Scrabble, and queuing up to play shuffleboard.

    :o

US famouse humorous writer ' Art Buckwald ' and two of his siblings were raised in orphanage in the early '20. Of course he is now enjoying life on his good fortunes and fame. As we can see he had beaten the odd. :D

Of course, I wasn't implying simply being an orphan was a death sentence. I was saying it's the lack of human contact/love/affection that generally destroys the mind in these types of places. Heck, it doesn't even have to take place in an orphanage or old folks home. I bet if a lot of folks on this board had a prolonged internet outage of years and years, they might suffer the same effects.

    :D

Even without the deprivation factor a lot of them already do. :D

  12. Currently under treatment in Samitivej, and to date very satisfied. With some doctors it is a bit difficult to communicate but if you keep asking the questions you will get the answers.

Regarding costs : the moment you are using medical equipment, scanners etc, prices tend to sky rocket, at least for Thai standards, not for Europe or USA.

If you want to undergo treatment on a longer time interval than the visa exemtion 30 days allow, go for a 60 day tourist visa. At the application mention "medical" for the reason for visiting. They will note that on your visa. You can then after 60 days go for an extension of 30 days at the Bkk immigration office. You have now 90 days, if you need more, tell your doctor to fill out a statement that you need treatment for x time and that you have difficulties in traveling, because of your illness.

A doctor at Immigration will have a look at you ask you some question about your disease and treatment. I've followed that route and got 3 months extension on my "medi" tourist visa, with the a comment from the Immi doctor to come back in 3 months for another extension if necessary.
