  1. Had a similar problem leaving Bkk for Taipei. The emigration lady noted a 3 below my exit stamp. Upon my question what the meaning of that was she said that had 3 entries in Thailand and therefore living here. As I kept on asking questions her supervisor came and explained it mend I had 3 days left of the 90/180 days visa exemption days.

I explained him that since Oct 1st I had 1 tourist visa with an extension, followed by another one that I only had partly used (12 days out of 60) and and 2 visa exemption entries back to back. The 1st VE was 4 days out of 30 and the 2nd 3 days. So which ever way you looked at it

I could never have 87 days used out of the VE allotment.

So he went on to his superior, who after a brief scan told him that I was correct and told me not to worry, I had plenty of days and entries left.

Still next time I will have the print out with me, even when I leave the country. :o

  2. Anyone else having / had the same problem ?

    Cheers, Tim

    Tim, hi !

Consider yourself lucky that you have a localized advanced case. Increases largely you chances for a remission. Unfortunately that is not my case, I'm in in metastasis phase to the bones so the outlook is not favorable.

  4. I don't know how to post links, however, if you go to the BBC website today Saturday, there is something about vitamins and ca prostate. If someone else could cut and paste it it could be useful.

Edit by Maestro: link to BBC article

Thanks Leisurely for the link and Maestro for fixing it.

As usual these type of announcements are generally more useful to the shareholders that to the sufferers. 2009 before we know something more.

but thanks anyway it's good to know that something is on it's way maybe.

  5. G'day,

Is there anyone out there who has experience of treatment for prostate cancer in Thailand. I can go back to Oz but would rather stay here. I have just had the good news that I have a locally advanced cancer with a Gleason score of 8 - for those who have been down this path.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers, Tim

    Tim, hi !

    Urologist : Dr. Isares Saisorn

  6. It would seem that foreign investors have been reassured that this is all a storm in a teacup.
Stock Exchange rebounds 2.5 per cent

(dpa) - Thailand's stock market rose 2.5 per cent Thursday on the return of foreign buyers who had been scared away by bombs in Bangkok and changes to investment laws, brokers said.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index ended at 637.63, up 15.36 points.

"Foreign investors came back to the market today, buying mostly bank and energy stocks, because Thailand's blue chips had lost a lot of value over the past two weeks," said Mongkol Phuangpatra, a broker at Atkinson Securities.

    Continued:

    Bangkok Post

But if you looked carefully you would see that foreigners are net sellers for 1404 Million and individual thais net buyers for 1282 Million, Institutionals net buy 122 million.

Looks to me that the foreign investor is not convinced. :o

  7. It is an easier thing to ask than to give. My father spent a long time dying and it was very difficult for everyone, especially my mother. He had expressed a want to die long before he got to the very bad stage but once he was there, it couldn't be done. Not that we would have done it.

Even though I knew he had a horrible life, it was not ours to take away. It is easy to say I don't want it but much harder to actually carry out that wish. Even though I knew it was better off for my father to have passed on, it was very hard coming to terms with his death.

It is always more difficult for those left behind than for the individual going or wanting to go. But it is also very difficult to accept and let go.

The decision to avoid long suffering and sometimes high (almost ruinous) financial cost for the family, is one that must be taken after serious discussions within the immediate family group. As a cancer patient, I know that somewhere in the near future me and my family will have to face that situation.

For me personally the decision is simple: I don't see why I should live either beyond the point where pain becomes unmanageable or where the financial cost endangers the future of my family. Getting my family to accept and let go is a far more difficult proposition than I thought and I hope I have sufficient time and resources left to bring that to a conclusion.

  8. Whether a individual wants to believe in a supreme being or submit him/herself to an organized religion, is that individual's undeniable right. However when that individual and or the religion she/he adheres to, starts to impose their believes upon somebody else, that will become an infringement of that other person's undeniable right and is therefore not acceptable. This is particularly true when this is happening from a position of social influence, whatever that position is.

  9. :o

Just to add Vientiane is handing tourist visas out freely (I mean without question!), just got another myself a couple of days ago. For penang, try The Cathy Hotel on Leith Street.Wonderful old colonial hotel, huge rooms, very nice staff. Same price as previous posters Oriental and near chulia street too (2 mins walk).

You mean Cathay Hotel ? If so always ask for a room in the front part of the hotel and on the upper floor.

  10. Aloha . I would be using my CC to book the flights and would like what we call an electronic ticket or an itinerary of some sort! What type of proof of ticket purchase do they give?

When you book online, part of the process is the credit check done on your credit card. When approved you will see a screen with all the details of your flight, reservation number(booking code) etc. Plus a notice to save or print that for your records. Later they will send you a confirmation.

In case they don't, your approval can be used to board.

  11. Breaking Efavirenz's patent irks Merck

"We need to break the patent because the price is too high for the government to afford, as new Aids patients increase every year by tens of thousands," he said.

    Source: The Nation - 1 December 2006

The real question is: What is the cost charged to the patient.

I'm currently under cancer treatment. the medicines prescribed and provided by the hospital are incredibly expensive. Looking for alternative providers has resulted in a cost differential of 45%. That means the hospital takes minimum a 45 % mark up.The alternative provider also need to make a buck, so were talking total markup roughly 50%+

I don't know how the pricing structure is for HIV drugs, but probably not far from the pattern above.

  12. I believe it is to prevent money laundering and terrorists moving money around.

    How?

It doesn't. It just CYA methodology. Same same as the stupid questions asked by US airlines at check in (did you pack yourself, never lost it out of sight)
