  1. Have you considered scuba diving as an alternative? That's possible 365 days a year in Pattaya and the crack on the boat is always good.

Well, I might be wrong but its two completely different things.

Though I agree its much cooler when your hobby is not a weather dependent.

I will give it a thought when I will totally give up waiting for a decent wind suitable for windsurf in Jomtien...and I’m quite there already.

Novermber was a waist - no windy days at all. The start of December is flat as well...

  2. I have been living in Pattaya since Jul 2012, and started to learn windsurfing since then.

At first I never minded if there was a wind or not as I was learning the basics.

But now I realize that I only evidenced around 5-8 days of what you can actually call windy days for the past half a year....

And I hardly believe now if there are actually any windy days >12-15knots in this region at all.

Does anyone know if Huahin will be the better option this this case for windsurfing?

  3. As some friends of mine told me: actually most of the beaches in Koh Larn are official rented out from the goverment.

So basically those are officialy private beaches. Owners pay their rent, tourists pay their fees. This is how it works.

So I doubt if Tourist Plice will take my side if conflict arise as this is a huge money we are talking about here.

Another friend of mine told me a soty when a tourist tired of all this sun chairs all over the beach, moved a sun chair away and laied down on a sand somewhere in the middle of Jomtien telling that this beach is owne by the King. (I guess he did not want to go far away from this hotel in a seach for a decent free space on a beach).

As a result - thais who "owned" that part of the beach got a few holes in his scull. So he ended up at the hospital ER.

This is LOS. Rude and simple as this.

  4. Today at Koh Larn, after arriving to Tai Yai beach we were told that this is a private beach and we were given a choice of either to pay for the sun deck chair or excuse my french, piss off. Lying down on the beach with a towel was not accepted as an option by beach staff.

At first we thought it was a joke, but no – thais kept telling that this is a private beach and we are not allowed to stay on it without sun chair.

Are you kidding me, is this for real? Are there private beaches in Thailand with its rules and fees to enter?

  5. Just an update. Just been there at Hat Sai Kheo, the one closest to Pattaya. Drove there by car. Everything above is right except for the price: farang admission fee is now 80 THB.

No offense, but I guess a trip to Koh Larn will be cheaper then and much more exciting and pleasant with a verity of beaches you can choose from!

But this could be just another option....

  6. Hello,

I'm a professional web-developer/programmer and IT-specialist with 10+ years of experience working for different international clients around globe. I know a lot about Internet, web-programming and e-commerce.

I’m married, me and my wife have a great daughter and we currently live in Pattaya/Jomtien.

I speak freely English, Danish and Russian. I have a master degree in Management (Moscow, Russia) and BSc degree in electronic engineering (Copenhagen, Denmark).

I have a wide experience living and working in different countries with different cultures.

At different point of my life I had number of private business of my own.

I also have some experience in marketing and e-commerce as I ran my own marketing company back at home.

So basically I am not only an IT-geek but have had quite some fun in different areas as well.

Right now I'm looking for some part-time job or even new business-ventures that I can become a part of and try something new in my life. The salary is not an issue at first place, but it’s more important for me to settle down a Visa/work permit question as well as getting new experience and try something new in Thailand.

Having driving license, in possession of a personal car. Willing to spend around 10-15 hours pr. week for the part time job. Or more if this will become a new business venture. Getting Thai work permit is essential issue. Salary is not an issue.

    I'm open for any suggestions!

    My phone: 0839732319

    Paul

  7. There is a reason why you don't see a lot of vending machines in Thailand .. the cost of labor.

You would probably be better off hiring somebody to take care of other things while also being responsible for selling the occasional snack.

Because labor is so cheap vending machines are not that great of a business and I doubt there are many (if any) willing to place machines at even busy locations and split profits with the location owner as is done in the west.

Taking into consideration low rates for the business rentals in Thailand my guess is that the rent of 1 sq.meter will not be such a great expense to the vending machine owner either.

So even with a cheap labor costs I think that vendys have a good potential in this country....Or do they?..

  8. Hello,

I live at Jomtien with my family. I would like to take a windsuring courses for the beginners to learn how to windsurf.

Does anyone have a good contacts among windsuring comminity or maybe can devote your own time for me for the reasonable price taking into concederation that it's a low season right now?

I already did the beginner course for 3 days so I could remember some basics techniques but I think I will need to start it all from the begging once again.

Please let me know if you have something to offer. Thank you.

  9. stailmanki, sorry but what's the point of your research?

yes, obviously russia and thailand are pretty close in terms of average costs of living. But as you might guess countries like Russia and Thailand, as well as rest of the emerging world - have a huge distinct between poor and rich, so basically your figures does not reflect anything simply for the fact that a half of those russians who are visiting thailand are way above those standard figures. And obviously others might be way below those standards as well.

I can actually say without exaggeration that quite a lot of those russian drunks who seem like rood and impolite folks who use to argue way loud all over the street with the bus driver about 20 bath change, and wasting thousand of baths same evening at a bar, restaurant and gift-shop, are actually earning no less the average Czechs, Poles, Greeks, Spanish and Portuguese at their homeland.

And off course it goes without saying that most of us no matter of nationality prefer to spend money while on a vocation even though prices might be higher than at your homeland.

    So what's your point?

  10. The child should get a non-O visa, and extensions of stay as depenend of one of the parents.

If the child goes to school he can get his/her own ED-visa.

Thank you, but one of the requirements for non-O visa is 500.000 on bank account, is that correct? or is that irrelative to our situation?

And one more thing so that we make things clear: in that case should an infant get an extension every 90 days which will cost 1900 bth same way as parent for their non-ED visa?

So basically an infant must be following the same procedure as adults after all?

  11. Hello,

Sorry if already discussed, pls send a link if so. But I could not finde an answer to that.

What visa type should the infant opbtain if both parents are on non-ED permits?

I know about a rule that kids don't pay for overstay, but its against the law anyway.

So I would like to know about the ligal and correct options for the kids in this situation. Thank you!
