The 6 year rule is the usual limit.

At the moment that has been modified for some or all people and they are letting some go a lot further back than that for some people so they can get the full 35 years needed. I was given the opportunity to go back to make up qualifying years by more than 10 years

    thats very good news

For the UK you go to the National Insurance site for the government. You you will sign in and then you can check your N. I contributions to make up your pension. I beleive you can back pay about 8 years.. It shows you when you have to pay by.. sadly it looks like the cheaper pension contribution will stop this year. Previously you could pay about 175 pounds for a full year's pension, and but they have told me this is stopping and now we will have to pay the full rate. I hope they hold off doing it...  but it will cost maybe 500-600 pounds a year for full NI. You have to decide whether paying the extra years is worth it. If for example if they quote a pension for you of 120 but by paying 10 years you will get 125 you will need to balance the extra amount per week against what you pay.

Another option is to put money into Ltf and RMF in Thailand. You reduce your tax to near zero and can get about 10% interest from it. After 7 years or 55 years of take it out tax free. You can

    Hope this helps..

you can pay back 6 years ...class 2 for 2018/19 only gone up a few pence got my letter from the N I this week

There is no dependency visa. It is either a non-o visa or extension of stay based upon being married to or being the parent of a Thai.

If you were already on an extension of stay based upon marriage you would not be able to  change the reason of being a parent until until you got divorced. After getting divorced you would show the divorce decree to have you current to extension so you could apply for a new one.

If you had a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage it would remain valid until it expires if you got divorced.

Thanks UJ.....I will pass on this info to my friend...

The honorary consulates cannot issue a multiple entry non-o visa now. The embassy in London still issues them with no financial proof being needed.

The consulate in Savannakhet does issue them without financial proof being needed. A few reports of the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City issuing them as well.

UJ...do you need to be divorced from your wife to apply for a dependancy visa for your kids or can you change from a marriage extension to a dependancy for your kids whilst still married...whilst waiting for divorce coming soon ?

When i got mine several years back there was no requirement for head man, only family members of Wife who could confirm where i lived.  All done in one afternoon and walked out with it after paying a 500 Baht tea money fee.   Very useful too as got me on the 30 Baht health list and every time you need to prove your residence for whatever purpose it saves you money and hassle.

glad to hear it helped you to get on the 30b healt scheme....i do the same every year but nobody believes me on here that iam on the scheme, got my last card this july....

    It took long for me...

    steps

    - translate passport and birth certificate in thai. Submit to your embassy. (The translator must be in a list approved by your embassy). And get certification by your embassy

    - submit the certifications to the thai foreign affairs ministry. Get their stamp

    - go to the amphur with documents, get the yellow book and the alien pink card. (The fastest in the steps)

    good luck !

took me even longer ?......the head of the amphur office threw my paperwork away twice as he took a dislike to me ?..i recieved a phonecall from the amphur when the head was on holiday.....and it was done in 10 minutes...but this was months of waiting as i wasnt aware the my paperwork was thrown away moments after i had handed it in ....TIT....

You need to report to the immigration office where you are living. Moving around would require proof of residence every time you changed addresses.

It would be best to establish a permanent address somewhere so that you could do the reports online or by mail when not there.

Ubonjoe....do you have to report to the immigration office where you got your extension from ?

I am trying to understand the way that medical costs for emergency treatment are charged to ordinary (as in wages) Thai nationals. I have had conflicting advice on this, so I thought I would ask the TV community.  I know in days gone by that medical costs were very low due to high government subsidy levels. I think that 30 baht was all that was required from the patient some years ago. I am told this is no longer in place, and Thai's must now pay for their medical treatment. My question is how much are Thai's expected to pay in the case of emergency treatment.

A friend was recently diagnosed with pneumonia and was told she needed 4 days overnight hospital stay. She told them she couldn't afford it, so they gave her a bag of drugs, told her to go home and take care. She has no insurance and works full time in a store, earning around 9,500 THB per month.

Her bill for the drugs, and other services (X rays, Dr consultation, use of oxygen) while she was at the hospital (Samrong Hospital) for a day (but not overnight) was just over 4,500 THB.

If she deteriorates and requires admission, what is her position regarding payment that she clearly cannot afford. In such circumstances, do they just treat her and require payment over time ?  This situation must be a daily occurrence and I am curious as to the approach taken by the hospitals - hope someone has the answer :)

Farang to the rescue is one obvious answer, but not all Thai's have that luxury.

30b still up and running....i am on it and use it every two months for my on going blood pressure problem in my local hospital and any other problems that might arise.....not covered for any dental work though..i have been registered at my local jungle hospital for 14 yrs now....

" PMTL wanted to move towards a smoke-free future and supported a tax policy based on the principle of tobacco harm-reduction that encourages smokers to switch from cigarettes to less harmful alternatives, such as noncombustible tobacco products, he said. "

And the 5,000baht fine for e-cigarettes is also an encouragement.:stoner:

Its a lot more than 5000b fine for smoking an e cig on the streets of Pattaya as a friend of mine found out to his cost

I think what you mean is...you can use your Thai Drivers license to fly domestically.

This is true, yet it still depends on the lady or man @ the ticket counter.

I've checked in without issue, only to have a friend be asked by the same lady,

on the same day, for the same flight, for a return ticket to the foreigners home country,

as a form of guarantee of sorts; is what was explained to us, when we tried to question the return ticket issue.

My friend had to charge a flight to his home country via credit card,

    at the counter, in order to checkin for the flight he was about to board;

which he could later refund or change dates of departure.

I've had several instances where I pulled out my driver license,

when asked for a passport, only to have the personnel look at the drivers license,

and then still ask for my passport. When I point out that my passport # is on my drivers license,

the personal just look at me crazy, and stated passport please.

People have stated you can have a copy of your passport for most things.

I went to get a residence letter from Immigration.

The I/O know me as a long term residence,

so I thought I could simply get by with a copy of the front page,

and a copy of my current non O visa...

and if any issues came up, I could show them a copy I have on my phone.

Nope sent home to get the actual passport to return and present.

Paid the 1000 bht for the process of the residence letter,

which some also say, can be had for free.

What was the real kicker though, was when I went to the land transport office,

to renew my drivers license with the residence letter.

I asked to make the drivers license, took the test,

and asked if I could also renew my motorcycle license as I had forgot I had to do as well,

    when I checked in.

    Guy @ the counter states

    1. Not say first time I want to make license for car & motorcycle

    2. Need to have two Dr. notes

    3. Need to have two residence letters

I tried to explain I was just renewing the licenses, which I already have,

and why the need for the additional documents, when everything is being made on the same day,

    same time?

    No response forthcoming.

So much for trying to cover my ass with both forms of documentation,

so I may travel with either auto or motorcycle.

Never mind that the Transport office just had a chance to increase the fee's they were about to receive from one person.

Or the idea that one person was simply trying to abide by the law in all the required ways possible.

Meanwhile a friend of mind, travels to BKK, never had a drivers license in Thailand,

    been here for 20 years, but can't be bothered with the formality;

    gets pulled over in BKK.

Police issue him a 500 bht ticket for driving without a license and send him on his way.

sounds about right.....i seem to think people who are employed to do a job dont even know how to do their own job....mind blowing at times....i had a good time in my local amphur a while back...trying to get my yellow book...had to jump through hoops etc...spent 4 hours with a nice lady typing out my information etc etc etc...when finished she handed the paper work to her boss....he looked at me and ripped the paperwork up and threw it in the bin....i asked what was the problem he replied to the lady he doesnt like falangs and he doesnt like me.......any way to get round this problem i was called back into the Amphur office on the Gentlemans day off and his underling signed it all off....

ok your phone number and you can look at my card....i know of another 2 near me on the same scheme....send me your number please...
