  1. Hello,

I married my partner (he is Thai) almost 3 years ago and took his surname at the amphur, however I never registered the marriage with my embassy (I am British), but seeing as we have a baby due towards the end of this year I would rather like to do this, along with changing my surname officially... Can anyone advise as to how I may go about doing both of these?

    Many thanks :)

  2. Hi :)

I'm hoping to buy a car within the next few months but I was looking for any advice as to the best way of finding a suitable dealer and the best financing options? I'm also trying to decide as to whether I should just get a rather old car paid entirely in cash, or look into financing options on used/new cars... Any pointers in the right direction greatly appreciated!

    Thank you :)

  3. Hi Sunny,

As far as I am aware you can only go on the 4 island trip from lanta, or join one from the Trang islands... I think it is too far for a day trip from Krabi, although there is a '5 island trip' which departs from Krabi, albeit an entirely different set of islands! I've not been on the Krabi '5 island' day trip so I can't tell you much more than that, but I have been on the Lanta 4 island trip quite a few times and highly reccommend it!

  4. So I just realized that I need to visit immigration for my 90 day reporting on 21st Jan - being this Saturday obviously I know that I can hold off until Monday if needs be, but am I right in thinking that I am allowed to report up to 7 days after the reporting day stamp? If so then I could attend any day next week?

    Thanks

just out of curiousity - if I am correct and I have the 7 days after to attend, what would happen if I went later than this (not that I intend to do this - just wondering!!!)

  5. Hi Ladies,

I apologise if someone has posted this question before, but I didn't see it while reading through this thread... So perhaps some of you can help to advise me as to what I should / shouldn't do!...

I used to take microgynon 30 contraceptive pill, I never had any troubles with it, but I stopped taking it about 6-7 years ago as I wanted to give my body a rest from taking the pill for a while.

I would like to start on a contraceptive pill again, however I am easily able to get to a doctor and the 'clinics'/'pharmacies' where I live are questionable (I'm fatally allergic to certain muscle relaxant drugs and anaesthetics, it's incredibly rare, but lucky me, I have it! I always tell my pharmacist clearly when I'm buying something, my husband will also re-iterate in Thai - but she always reassures me that there is no way anyone could be allergic to what she is providing... Twice I have trusted her, luckily only struck by a fairly bad allergic reaction, since then I have certainly learnt my lesson now I always google each chemical component in anything I am prescribed!!!) anyway, apologies for the side story!

    Back to my actual question....

I remember back in the UK when I was going for my microgynon prescription always being asked whether I smoke, and I remember having a blood pressure test every time. Back then I was a social smoker, now, unfortunately I am a daily smoker, trying to quit!

So, given everything I have mentioned above, I would love to hear back from you ladies with some advice as to whether you consider it wise to just start taking microgynon 30 again without seeing a doctor, or incredibly stupid. If not microgynon 30, is there a safer alternative that perhaps I could start myself on for now, or is that not a good idea either?

    Any advice welcomed :)

    Thank you x

p.s. please don't tell me to step smoking - I hear that from myself enough times every day!!!!! ;)

  6. RIP - another sad story :( I hope that we can all have some respect for this young mans family and friends.

RIP lad, lets hope this is something that is gotten to the bottom of, but I have very little hope in that :/

On a side note, they actually used the word 'Caucasian' in the report! I have been here 7 years and 'farang' was the first word I learned in Thai lol, mainly because I heard it everywhere. My gf doesn't even know why Thai people refer to us whiteys with this word, foreigners who are of colour never get this treatment!

Wikipedia has a big long page on the etymology of the word 'farang' - although my husband is adamant it derives from the work 'farangsayt' (French)

No sympathies for foreigners or their families who die in whatever ways in the resort areas of the Southern Provinces. Despite all the past incidences and reports and negative news in the media about these Southern areas, , they still come , so its their own fault when something happens.

All of Southern Thailand!? Seriously? What about the incidences, reports & bad news from the rest of the country - or world? Comparatively Southern Thailand is pretty darned safe I would say.

  7. Presumably, as you live in Chonburi you may go to Soi 5 Jomtien.  I did my 90 day yesterday.  The lady on the counter (number 4) was very pleasant with good English.  She was exceptionally efficient and I was out in under 10 minutes. Finding a parking spot took longer than the reporting.

Woops! I really need to update my profile location - I'm no longer in Chonburi! Sorry to waste your time, but hopefully it helps someone else - and thank you anyway!

Immigration have been, in general, getting stricter about satisfying that a marriage is genuine. I'm just guessing but that might be the reason why they wanted to see your husband on a second occasion after the application was made. It doesn't sound like anything to worry about.

I assumed as much, next year I'll definitely be taking him both times to be sure... But do you think in your opinion that I should bring him along to the 90 day reporting as well?
  8. Thank you.. He didn't come last year when I collected the visa approval so I assumed he wouldn't need to this year either - hence my confusion... But as far as I can remember (I've not visited for a 90 day report in ages as have been doing them online!), when I go for the 90 report I don't go through to the officers at the back, it's the front desk who manage it, so surely his being there wouldn't even be noticed? If I remember correctly that is!

  9. I apologise if my question sounds dumb, but I would just like a second opinion before going to immigration for my 90 day report (non O based on marriage visa).

So, last time I was at immigration (collecting the visa extension approval stamp) the officers told me that I shouldn't do the online 90 reporting, and that next time I should bring my husband with me... Perhaps he was referring to collecting the approval stamp rather than attending the 90 day check-in... So, my question - do I need to bring him to immigration with me for my upcoming 90 day reporting, or not? (It's a long trip hence his preference for staying at home instead!!!!)

    Thanks [emoji4]

  10. Hi all,

Last month I went to my local immigration office to apply for a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage, everything was fine and sent off to Bangkok. Now I am back to collect my visa on the last day stamped (30days later) but they said that they haven't go my paperwork back yet. I asked them what I should do and they don't know, either they can keep my passport and I return again at a later date, or I can just take my passport and go home... Anyone else ever had this? It all seems a bit strange to me. Any advice?

    Thank you

  11. You apparently do not have a non-o visa to renew. You have a one year extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai you applied for and had issued at an immigration office.

You will apply for a new extension at your local immigration office. You can apply for it up to 30 days early up to the last day if you want to. The fee is 1900 baht.

You will need the same documents you had when you applied for the first one.

Here is general list of the requirement. You may need more or less dependent upon the office where you must apply.

Unless you are applying at Bangkok you will need 2 sets of copies attached to 2 TM7 application.forms.

Proof of 400k baht in the bank for 2 months by way of a letter from your bank and your bank book.or 40k baht income.proven by a income letter from your embassy.

Copies of your passport photo page and every page that has any stamp or visa for Thailand on it. Copy of TM6 departure card.

Marriage certificate and a updated Kor Ror 2 marriage registry.

Copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card.

Photos of you and your wife in and around the house. One must show you both with the house number shown in it. The number of photos needed varies by office.

Map to your residence from the nearest main road or street.

Proof of residence if not living where your wife's house book is for.

Some offices may want witnesses when you apply.

Final question (hopefully!!!). What is the difference between an updated Kor Ror 2 and the original Kor Ror 2? I still have the original from when we got married, will this be sufficient?

    Thank you... again!!!!!

  12. Finally - success! Just in case anyone else finds the same problems and comes across this post in the future, this is what I discovered ...

Thai PayPal only accepts debit/credit cards from the following banks :

Bangkok Bank, Krungthai Bank, and Kasikorn Bank.

To receive transactions with any Thai bank is fine - you just need to link and verify the account by doing the following :

    1. Log in to your PayPal account.
    2. Click Profile near the top of the page.
    3. Click My money.
    4. Click Add my bank beside “Bank accounts.”
    5. Enter the requested information and then click Continue.
    6. Review your information and click Save.

To confirm your bank account, we’ll send 2 small deposits (each between 0.01 and 0.99 THB) to your bank account.

The deposits should appear in your bank account in 4 to 6 business days. You can review your bank statement or contact your bank to find out the exact amounts of these deposits. With this information, you can complete the confirmation process online.

    Here’s how:

    1. Log in to your PayPal account.
    2. Click Profile near the top of the page.
    3. Click My money.
    4. Click Update next to "Bank accounts".
    5. Click Confirm bank account.
    6. Enter the exact amounts of the 2 deposits. For example, if the amounts you received are 0.12 and 0.07, enter 0.12 and 0.07.
    7. Click Submit.

I hope that this information helps someone out someday - thanks to everyone that helped me out here :)

  13. I'm pretty sure (it was a long time ago) that to receive payments you should be linking your bank account number rather than your card number to PayPal.

My PayPal is linked to my Bangkok Bank account and my Be1st card (which CAN be used for online payments).

Thank you very much to you and everyone for all the advice - I hadn't thought of that! I'll give it a go in the morning and let you know how I get on :)

  14. I am not going to try and put down a fellow equally lonely BM lurking here for a bit of companionship on a Saturday night. But you do say:

I have friends who have the same type of card as me, from the same bank (Thanachart) and have set it up without any problem at all.

    So did you ask them?

555++ I rarely know what day of the week it is, and to be honest with you, PayPal is not the hottest topic of conversation right now, so how would I know that they have successfully linked Thanachart and PayPal without asking? Sorry to be a smart-ass ;):P

  15. I've been trying to set up a PayPal account that links to my Thai bank account, primarily for the purpose of receiving funds. It would be useful if I could also transfer/make payments, but just receiving is fine for now.

I have tried the following (all of which failed) :

    1. Adding my Thai Account to my existing PayPal account (previously linked to a HSBC debit card from the UK)

    2. Creating a new account and trying to add my Thai bank account

    3. Creating another new account using the Thai PayPal site and an e-mail address that was created while I was in Thailand, the account was still not accepted.

    4. Contacting my Thai bank to ask whether it is even possible to link PayPal to my type of card (as I can not make online purchases etc.), they said it is fine for receiving payments through PayPal and should just work and that I should speak to PayPal about it. I spoke to PayPal and they told me to speak to my bank. Endless circle of passing back and forth with no one able to actually tell me why it won't work.

Can anyone offer me any clues or help at all? I have friends who have the same type of card as me, from the same bank (Thanachart) and have set it up without any problem at all.

    Thank you :)

  16. I'm coming towards the end of my first year on my Non-O Spouse Visa.

I assume that the visa renewal is fairly straightforward, but I thought it best to double check to be sure so that I don't turn up at immigration and find out I'm back at square one!

I would be very appreciative if someone can provide me with answers to the following questions :

    - The visa renewal should be applied for at my local immigration office (the same one that issued the current Non-O), is this correct?

    - When should I go to apply for the renewal? Is anytime up until the final date ok? Or does it have to be a certain amount of time before it expires?

    - What (and who) do I need to bring with me?

    - How much does it cost?

    - Any other important details I'm missing/should know/remember?

Thank you in advance everyone biggrin.pngthumbsup.gif

  17. You need to drive south from Krabi about 60km, past the airport, Klong thom etc. then you'll see a big sign for Koh Lanta (turning right). Follow that road and just before you get to the first ferry stop at the ticket office. After the first ferry just follow everyone else through Lanta Noi to the second ferry (although the bridge opens on the 22nd so you might be able to cross that instead of a second ferry).. Then you'll be in saladan - the port town of Lanta Yai. It's fairly straight forward, you should be fine :)
