  1. It is of some comfort just to see that finally the Thai authorities are beginning to look inward rather than the tired old system of blaming the Farangs for all the ills of the country. Now lets get some changes to protect our purchases, like giving Farangs the right to own limited bits of land so that they cannot be constantly swindled or held ransom to their property by some greedy woman........................

  2. I dont know who came up wiyth this non-sense idea but it is most likely someone who has been getting away with shady business for years but when Farangs come along and do everything properly they then feel threatened,as usual. This proposal is one huge step for mankind-unfortunately it is backwards.....Why not come up with some sensible useful ideas like allowing foreigners to own propery under two Rai,or giving a proper permanent residence where the farangs do not have to run down to report to mummy every few months,or pay to go out of the country every time. There is so much non-sense here one could practically throw a dart at a blackboard and find something more sensible than this proposal.I know I know-if I dont like it I can go home, and that is precisely what I did.

  3. L.Buddh also forbids the slaughter of animals and the eating of their carcasses -but virtually no-one in Thailand ,including the monks, follow that one, although they are very clever at making up excuses why they dont have too.and that should just be common sense-especially for a monk.Flesh eating in the vedic culture is allowed only by warriors before battle to make them more fierce, and they must hunt and kill the animals themselves.Domestic animals could never be killed and eaten,of course we are speaking of a civilized society.

  4. With a spousal visa we are allowed a one year stay but we still have to do 90 days reports.I am married but I was on a retirement one year visa, the imm.officials told me it is better to use the spousal because that leads one to the option of applying for the permanent residence after three years. Also the marriage(spousal) visa money requirement is only 400,000 baht rather than 800,000 Baht for the retirement visa.Cheers.

  5. What about dealing with a jerk of a Real Estate agent-of which Chiang mai seems to have an over abundance of these giggling-airhead- female- stupid but arrogant female so-called agents.

RecentlyI I replied to an advertisement for a building in the OLd City.I was pleasantly surprised to recieve a reply in two days because normally the agents never reply at all once they see the inquiry is from a Farang.Just like when we walk into Home Pro for instance. There are dozens of silly twits who are supposed to be assistants who dont have a clue about anything , lolling about the area giggling and laughing but they miraculously scatter and dissapear l;ike magic as soon as a Farang walks through the door.So In any case this silly girl or woman who is supposed to show me the building is trying to direct me to another building that I am not interested in and I distinctly told her by e-mail that I needed to see the main choice first, so she sets a time and date and sure enough doesnt pitch up, but instead goes to the wrong place and calls me from there, and then becomes all offended when I lightly chastise her for getting it wrong(most likely intentionally since all Farangs are below the superior Thai intelligence)even after two very clear messages from myself to her mail account, and then she tries to laugh it off.I am amazed at the attitude here which we all know is that Thais can do no wrong and Farangs are always wrong. She wouldnt last one day in a genuine estate agency abroad.Obviously she may have some wealthy backers(Father) and she needs everyone to kotow to her, even with all her faults.Sometimes I wonder why I am still trying here,THais are so far behind on everything except patting themselves and each other on the back.Canakya Pandit the great Philosopher says that "Chastisement is pregnant with all good qualities while showing to much love is the cause of the ruination of ones character(in other words it produces too many spoiled brats, hint hint.),like the male priviged youngsters here that feel they can murder anyone with impunity.TIT.

  6. I am always baffled at how easily Thai people in general resort to murderous violence, especially since they are supposed to be non-violent Buddhists,we see these murders so many times.Young people, who have no fear of murdering someone or inflicting very grave wounds ,even on other Thais.Perhaps it is because they are eating so much flesh, against the rules of non-violence AHIMSA. Of course the young people are following a pattern demonstrated by their elders but still it is quite shocking that THais in general can so easily kill another human being.

  7. Of course the teacher is correct. One should not be alone in a room with any female-even wife or sister.Foreigners do not understand this rule of course because they have never ever thought of avoiding sexual thoughts or stopping altogether the actual act of sex.Short to say basically foreigners model is to have as much sex as he can wnenever and wherever he can.

Vedic culture is the opposite-one should limit iones sex life to basically having sex only for producing children.Even Cathilics propose the same rule but few follow. So that is the origin of this rule. One cannot make spiritual advancemet if he or she cannot control the tongue(vegetarian)or the genital.Spirituallif is the opposite of material life.In the spiritual world there is zero sex life as we know it-there is no lust.So obviously if one wants to live there in peace eternally then we have to come up to the standard although most people who populate this hell we are presently in have little desire to get out or even try.Cheers.Read Bhagavada Gita as it is or view youtube channel "excan1" for more info.

  8. What definitely surprised me the most when coming here was to learn that THai monks actually eat flesh(meat)and their excuse is that they cannnot refuse what people give them-what a cop out.No way should any Buddhist eat flesh-AHIMSA-non-violence.buddhas whole mission was to steer people away from eating flesh when there is so much non-vioplent food available.

Besides that what I was also surprised with was how clean the Thai people are.

  9. Yeah!!!!!Little wonder tourists are beginning to avoid the Country, besides all the political non-sense perhaps they are just a little tired of being targeted for, sometimes imagined offences while out riding on their rented scooters etc.etc.just like I was last weekend.I refused to pay the tea money and was given a ticket, while the Thai rider I had just followed through the intersection was immediately excused after she handed the good disgraceful Officer something.I went to the brass and guess what he said, although we give him credit that he did excuse my fine and returned my license,he complained that the tourists were renting scooters while not having international drivers licenses, and therefore were driving illegally and therefore open to being targeted.Dumbfounded I replied hey Mr.,what do the tourists know when they come here and rent a scooter,no agency ever mentions that they require an Int. drivers license and should wear a helmet etc.etc.That is the responsibility of the rental agency to check first that the foreign renter has the proper license before they give him the scooterReally friends -that is so Thai, this twisted thinking, and really unbelievable that a top official of the police could trot out such rot, that it is the tousrists fault, which justifies the Police to continue raking in the money by targeting the Foreigners whom they know will not have a int.license, because they were never asked to produce for one and also didnt know they needed one because they were never informed. And the Tourist agencies dumbly profess wondering why tourists are dumping THailand. The Tourists like myself will dump Thailand more and more until the non-sense stops and the Govt.begins taking responsibility for the corruption and non-sense that is perpetrated by the ROYAL Thai Police.I am c ertain that the King himself would not be be proud of his Royal Thai Police who constantly belittle themselves by shamelessly taking tea money and soft -targeting unsuspecting Tourists who are just following the Thais lead in many cases.Put That in your pipe and smoke it.

  10. Leave -make some good money then come back,if you are not business minded or experienced in business by now(45)then you better make money in the way you know in your home country. If you evenyually marry the girl you wont have any problem bringing her to live with you and she can also make some money there with you.

  11. Hey Dude-if she is not pushing it why would you,are you daft or what??She most likely knows it is not your child or she would be after you for money right now.Just drop it and find a new girlfriend-God knows they are not hard to find in Thailand..

  12. Here is a good 0ne for the tourism Minister-today as I was out on the motorbike I followed a Thai lady on her motorbike across a road where appearently that was not allowed-she was two seconds ahead of me when a traffic policeman stopped her-very quickly she handed him something and left-he turned to me immediately and proceeded with the normal BS that I would have to pay Baht 500 -pen poised to write but waiting for me to say "do I pay here or at the police station".I refused to pay him so he wrote the ticket.Poicemen are supposed to be showing a clean example to the public since they are in power-instead they are dirtier than the normal public-go figure,This is not the end of the story.Monday I will go down to speak to the big boss.If they are serious about stopping corruption and the unfair targeting of foreigners visiting Thailand then why do they not have some corruption hotlines established in every major center.Being unfair to tourists will certainly drive them away, especially when they are targeted like this.In any normal country temporary tresident tourists should be forgiven for not knowing the local laws and given a warning-instead they are targeted as easy marks here in Thailand.and that to me is totally unacceptable.

  13. Hi Mate-I have done exactley the same thing last year and it was not a pleasant experience.First off as you say one would expect to not have to pay duty-after all the website says so that if one is married and you have been out of the country then duties are excused.

So off my goods went from Canada in a 40 ft.container so when I arrived in Thailand I went to see my old buddy at the clearing agencey and he wouldnt touch it.Hesaid you WILL HAVE TO PAY_no other way-no matter what the Govt.website says and he advised me to go to the Govt.customs aoffice myself which is what I did,and yes, they just keep coming up with another arguement and moving the goalposts-do you have a work permit etc.etc.so much non-sense so finally I realized the situation,as my friend at the agency said and I just asked them nicely to do the best they could for me under the circumstances. They took 1100 Dollars US for their services(???)and numerous other nickel and dime charges which had me running up and down for three hours. Finally the time came to go down to see the container clearing-they x-rayed the container and demanded it be opened because I had two old bicycles which my thai friend wanted and bicycles are not allowed. Then the demands for money to open the seal from the local mafia-I watched many Thais paying 20 Baht but of course they demanded I pay 200 Baht ,which I refused-eventualkly I gave then forty and they didnt cause much of a commotion.Fortunately I met one creepy guy at the customs documents and he led me through everything all the while trying to scam me out of more money for this and that.

So all told -if you can get it done door to door good on ya but I really have doubts about that, being a farang and all you are open game for all the scammers in Thailand-including the Government.Actually I regretted doing it but alas-hindsight is 20/20.

I had my forty ft.container delivered to Chiang mai and that was another $800 and they didnt have a yard so we had to offload on the main highway. What an ordeal,as are most things one tries to achieve in THailand.I have just recieved the license for my private tuk tuk-THREE YEARS after first applying and still they have no shame.
