Then the foreign tourists should be made aware of this
Yesterday evening I viewed this live webcam from Koh Samui. I saw many foreigners but not one was wearing a mask.
It's like this all over Thailand.
OMG! ????

You only flaunt your wealth if you've earned your money legitimately ( which is 100% never the case if you're driving around in Lamborghinis). Even some of my friends that are legit Silicon Valley billionaires drive Hondas and Toyotas. In Silicon Valley, people actually look down on you if you're too flashy. It's consider low-status / thuggish / trashy to drive around in a Ferraris and Lambos. You get labeled as a "tool" or "douche bag". In Thailand, people are still heavily under the influence of materialism and actually look up to people that "seem rich" but those days are long gone in America.
The most successful international crime lords live a very simple life, they live completely underneath the radar. You would never know they're wealthy.
One of America's most notorious crime lords, Frank Lucas, got caught because he went out partying one night and wore a fancy mink coat to a night club. Paparazzi caught his image and the FEEB was like "Who is this guy in the mink coat?" and started looking into him. Boom, game over. He would live to forever regret the night he let his model wife pressure him into wearing that mink coat. RULE OF THUMB: Always pretend to be poor, even when you're fabulously rich.
wow you've seen movies. impressive.

We have the own car . That's impossible to leave with speed boat
This problem exists for everyone who wants to use Raja with a vehicle. You have to come early and put your car in the line to get on the ferry. 8AM for 10AM ferry was likely too late after chinese new year. This is a Raja Issue and not a Koh Phangan issue, the same situation on Samui and in Don Sak.
<script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>
Songserm and Seatran both have car ferry.... all close by.... I would try and choose Seatran over Songserm.
Advanced booking would have probably been better, especially as someone pointed out above, it's Chinese New year period ...
Good luck!
Songserm and Seatran have car ferries KPG to Don Sak, really?
No.
You cane buy ferry tickets with Raja ferry online, which many with vehicles do to ensure a space.
yes... 3 days ahead if want to go with vehicle.

Army is back on KPG and seems to check beaches and title deeds of land attached to beaches. Does anyone have details, were there any announcements?

They will lose millions if tourists stop going to Koh tao, so its in their interest to find the real killers, although they may think a fix up will do
No they won't lose millions. How many people have died here and how many fix ups were made? They just have to find someone and the whole thing will calm down. Fix it before high season and tourist numbers will be the same (or lower for other reasons). Fact.

In my opinion the parties are not the main source of the drug problem, shutting them down just removes a popular feature of this - party - island. Some people travel here for the smaller parties too.
People seem to be obsessed with hating the parties and party people, making them out to be drug fueled orgies - if only...
To the haters - it is not as if drugs are sold over the counter at parties! Stop the parties and the same dealers will merely sell more on the beaches and in resorts. Same people, same drugs.
I must admit I do not go to the parties much as I feel my age; the times I have gone I have had a good time and never did I see, nor was I offered drugs. There were many spaced out zombies dancing to the techno music, but they more than likely arrived with their own supply, or bought off the same dealers mentioned earlier.
If the army wants to make a huge improvement here then concentrate on Yabba usage amongst local Thai/Burmese youngsters...
Agree with you regarding the yaba, it's for sure a bigger issue than some tourists taking drugs. However, there are (or were?) enough party's on KPG were you could buy drugs over the counter. Some places even have signs.

too many fat kids? true
too much junk food? true
drink more milk to stay healthy? big big BS! first of all I think at least 80% of Thai don't like milk without flavor, so they would drink sweetened milk! And in general, milk makes people sick, it was made for COWS!! The West still believes we need milk and it is healthy because the big companies made us believe that for xx years. Milk is NOT GOOD for the majority of people worldwide

Looking for not too old houses on Koh Phangan with 2 rooms and internet for around 10,000bt for longterm renting, located anywhere except east coast - any recommendations?

The following situation:
- I would like to sign a contract for a franchise, if possible in my own name, as an individual person without a business in Thailand.
- I would like to run this franchise through another (Thai) company, e.g. by giving them a contract that allows them to use the franchise for a fixed time frame (e.g. 1 year)
- I would then later consider to register an own company and use the franchise for myself.
- The franchise-company doesn't have a problem with this
- I think everythink will work well with this (Thai company) but I don't want to give them the full rights over the franchise to reserve the right to manage it alone if they mess it up.
Is it possible for me as a natural person to sign these two contracts? Note: I will not make any income from allowing the Thai company to use the franchise.
Thanks for any help / ideas!

Any places / beaches you can recommend for fishing on Phangan?

Just thought someone might be interested in it...
- Left Thailand in beginning of June > Passport still more than 6 month valid > no problems (not a suprise for me as I knew my 'old'/1st passport was not cancelled)
- Entered Cambodia without any problems
- Left Cambodia without any problems
- Entered Thailand (Don Mueang) at the end of June > Passport less than 6 months valid > No Problems at the immigration.
So I saved almost 4 passport pages

Try coconut oil. works fine for me. Somebody told me that they can't sting/bite you then because their wings will immediately be soaked with the oil on your body. Your can also spray water with sugar inside but I think then you have to deal with ants>_>

Opened this morning (31st).
This is a BigC market, smaller than the standard big C.
Some import from france, like cheese, delicatessen...
Meat looked good and fresh, fishes as well.
All together they are not in the same league as tesco, the shop is clean (even though it was full this morning)
No KFC nor Mc Do and no food court.
if they keep it like that, tesco has to worry about it's futur
Yes, Tesco can definitely close if BigC stays like that and Tesco doesn't improve! BigC has more things (including some relatively cheap cheese and wine), looks more clean and (!) it doesn't stink! But lets see how it looks in a week
There is one big disadvantage: The motorbike parking space is quite confusing and I fear there will be many accidents if they take away the guy who was handling the 'traffic' today!
I was told that KFC is still under construction (Right side of the market when you come in). On the left side there will be Mr Donut but nobody talks about a Mc Donald's anymore...

Thailand is only concerned that your passport will cover you period of stay. But other countries could be very strict on that.
It would cover my period of stay so you think it should not be a problem? (lets not talk about 1st and 2nd passport...)
THe passport is still valid more than 6 months when I enter the other country.

And I said issued as a replacement. A second passport is not the same as a replacement for current passport.
Sorry. I didn't read properly.
Why did you apply for a new passport, if you applied for one to renew the old one then it is cancelled by your Government.
And since you say NEW PASSPORT, then this is the case.
Some people have two passports, but this is a different case and does not apply to you, as you renewed.
As I explained why I need two passports I hope my country didn't report my old passport as invalid Actually I use the 'old' one so I guess I should not have any problems.
Does Immigration check the 6 months very thoroughly? I will arrive on DMK if that makes any difference and it will be about 5 months 2 weeks left...
-
Normally if you have an extension you have to go to Immigration to have the stamps moved into the new passport, as the old passport is immediately cancelled by the issuing authority. Therefore your re-entry permit has been cancelled too. The stamps in the new passport cover about 2 pages.
90 days from the day of return into Thailand, remember that day is Day 1.
A Visa does not get transferred by an Embassy or Consulate.
sorry, my fault, of course the immigration has to transfer the visa.
You can be expected to be arrested upon trying to use that old passport for travel if you have a replacement from most any country I am aware of. When issued a replacement passport your old passport is recorded as invalid. If you try to leave using both passports you will be directed to return to immigration where extension was obtained to transfer stamps. So I would not try using and just get your extension transferred now.
Why? My Passport(s) are owned by the country I come from and as long as they issue more than one passport for me, nobody can arrest me for that. There are several reasons why one might need more than one passport and it is not forbidden. (Of couse you will normally not get 2 passports and you will have to state why you need more than one, otherwise the issuing authorities will stamp the old one invalid).
So Thailand (or any other country) definitely can't arrest me for travelling with a valid passport, no matter how many other passports I might have.
Back to my initial question, is the immigration strict about the 6 months?
-
I have to leave the country and already have a re-entry permit but when I come back, my passport will expire within 5 months. I already have a new passport but I would like to use the old one until the current extension expires.
What do I have to expect, will I be able to enter the country with my old passport? (maybe if I can show my new one and tell them I'm on the way to the embassy to transfer the visa??
Another thing is that I have to register at the immigration while I am gone (xx day report). Does that mean I have to go to the immigration directly after I came back or after xx days after I entered the country?
thanks for any good advice

Yes, all other conditions remain the same and you'll still need Thai employees it's just the number of Directors (bosses)that change.
Doesnt the 4 Thai employee rule per WP apply under a Partnership limited apply as well ?No, it can be a Partnership Limited as opposed to A Company Limited (only requiring two directors or partners, 51% Thai 49% western). As for the 2 million baht you will still need this amount but, the actual amount can vary a little depending on where you register. Sorry I don't have any links all my knowledge is from 33 years practical experience
That leads me to another question: I read an article about new foreigner restaurant that opened here and the 2 (farrang) owners said they were not able to hire 8 Thais for their small restaurant and that is why they now have to go to the border every 90 (!) days!?!?
Does that mean it is possible to make a company and hire less than 4 Thai per foreigner if you don't require an extension?
I never heard anything that you can do this but just in case, what would that mean for the situation I described?
Sad to hear that one of the nice guys on Koh Phangan died yesterday
