It was reported before Thais used it but apparently it can help those people with serious symptoms (was already reported as helpful in China) - probably something to do with keeping viral count lower to help reduce the seriousness for the more seriously sick... or something like that.

Experts i heard of said it will take at least a year to get an anti virus ,so that Thai report of a cure seemed unlikely to me .

Is military rule still in place in Thailand?  Why is the Army giving orders to the media and what is a soldier doing with live ammo on the streets during peacetime.

    No .

The soldier went rouge .Stole a Humvee ,guns and ammo from his base after shooting dead his Army officer superior ,his mother in law and i think a 3 rd person .Then he headed to the current shopping Mall.

  3. Did anyone else notice today in Chiang mai the black circle around the Sun that took up a quarter of the sky with a rainbow around it ? .Happened at 12.15 pm for around 45 minutes .Most people in the town centre were either looking up or taking photos .Never saw anything like it in my 65 years .

  4. Just got back from Savannakhet .Everything went well .Got a M-O Visa  due to being married to a Thai .This is my 5 th one from Savannakhet .Travelled there and back from Chiang mai .Used the Form pdf downloads from here. Here is how it panned out .

1day  .Flew Nockair C.M. to Udon Thani.Stayed the night in Udon . Cost return B1,100  booked around 10 weeks ago .

2 day .Got big bus from Udon to Mukdahan ,early morning  .Took 5.5 hours and cost B200 .Got bus from Mukdahan to Savannakhet B50 .Had $35 prepared for Lao visa on arrival .Stayed night Savannakhet .

3 day  . Went early morning 9 am to Thai Consulate to give my papers .Paid B5000 for visa  .Not many people there maybe 30 or so , Stayed another night Savannakhet. Hotel half way between Consulate and Bus station. Called Dalavanh Guesthouse and cost B932 for 2 nights .Was a 10 minute walk off main road .Booked through Booking.com Reasonable place but noticed Electric shower had no ground wire.Had a/c and fridge and flat screen tv and good WiFi

4 day .  Collected Visa at 2 pm and got bus back to Mukdahan .B50 .When at Mukdahan bus station around 3,40 pm  It was too late for getting a big bus back to Udon so stayed the night at Hotel near bus station Cost B350 .

    5. day . Last day today got big bus from Mukdahan  at 9 am to Udon arrived 2.30 pm ,Got a Nokair flight back to Chiang mai at 6 pm ,

P.S,  Not much changes in Savannakhet from my last visit 15 months before .There is a new 7/11 style shop near the bus station which is handy .Price of a large Beer Lao in the shops was a universal Kip 10,000 ( around B40 ) .I brough Baht notes with me from Thailand and the Baht is accepted there but change is always given in Kip .B100 is roughly 25,000 kip .There are a very few ATMs ,one next to the Thai Consulate if required .Your Thai card should work .There were a few new local restaurants near the Busstation where you could eat cheap .Breakfast can be got at the Avalon Hotel in their Coffee shop for B25000 or roughly B100 .Again i came across some agressive dogs walking down side Sois but they will back down if you wave a stick at them .Its best to get a Hotel with WiFi to keep in touch as your Thai Phone package will only get a poor signal  ,or none at all .The Avalon Coffee shop also has WiFi .

To prepare, to fortify myself for a visit to the Thai consulate, uh, ahem, any recommendations?

    Avalon Residence

Aura Residence, the food although not western was pretty good.

    Pilgrims Kitchen & Inn

the HungHeuang Hotel (around the corner is the Boune Cafe, great western style food)

    Or another?

    I'm leaning towards Pilgrims Inn

The bus station has rooms for B200 .

I married one 12 years ago and when i met her three years before that she could already speak very passable English, better in fact than some of my English friends.

I would add that she did not learn English at Government Schools, where she says the Teachers not only lacked any interest in teaching English but showed no interest or awareness of a World outside of Thailand.   Indeed; until she was 11 years old she thought Thailand was 'The World'  because nobody from her Family or School had ever indicated that there was any other 'World'.    Then one day an old Monk visited the School and showed the Children an Atlas and pictures of his travels to other Countries.  Being a very excited 11 year old she rushed home later to explain to her Dad what she had learned that day but his response was a complete lack of interest, just replying...''Go help your Mother at the Market ''.    From that day forward my Wife was determined to learn all she could about the outside World and to take every opportunity to learn English and Travel 'The Real World'.   In doing so she has freed herself from the constraints of a Country led by a succession of  Moronic Thieves that have no interest in moving the country forward.

Sounds like Ireland where i grew up in the 60s .World History and Geography and Foreign languages or Religion other than Catholism  were not promoted
