  1. The last few times that I had to go to Kap Choeng was great. I was the only foreigner there or only the second in line. Very fast and also closer to my house. Back to the subject of ceasefire, up to now it's been pretty quiet. Waiting for the evening to see if anything is happening. Part of the ceasefire agreement is to not have troop movement but they didn't say anything about resupply.
  2. Just relaying what I personally witness last night while responding to a post.
  3. As it was said before, just before any ceasefire in any conflict the world has seen, there will always be a barrage of artillery fire in order to pound the point that any continuation will be met with greater force. It's a sad truth but real. You asked why I am pessimistic, my answer is that I am not but I am realistic. Something that certain people develop while serving and seeing the harsh reality in front of you.
  4. Plenty of return fire and additional "reminders" from mobile mortars and 155 guns next door to my house. I'd forgotten how it is at night with the mortars. Loud bang at launch but can't see the projectile compared to the 155.
  5. 8:30am and I'm having my morning coffee in a relatively calm and quiet surrounding. Let's give it a full day to see if the ceasefire holds tru or not.
  6. I am willing to cross my fingers and hope that they remain silent but hearing all my neighbors saying that they don't trust khmer people makes it hard.
  7. Yes, route 24 is perfectly safe as I just used it an hour ago to return at Phanom Dong Rak. Just fill up your vehicle before stting off as all the gas stations are closed.
  8. Considering the several shots fired by the battery of 155's next to my home a few minutes ago, I have a hard time believing that both sides will honor the ceasefire... Please prove me wrong dear neighbors.
  9. I doubt the office at Kap Choeng will open anytime soon.
  10. 10am today at Phanom Dong Rak was pure chaos that reminded me of my time in service. Tanks, towed howitzers, APC, support vehicles, the smell of gunpowder, the echo kick from the 155mm making my windows shake, dogs barking in fear and confusion. And I thought it was all behind me.
  11. If they let me sleep past 7 am, it will be a good sign. I'll be able to tend the cattle without looking up at every detonation.
  12. You are indeed correct to point out the distinction. Please forgive me since I have not had a full good night sleep for the past 3 nights as there was people firing artillery shells over my house...
  13. If you agree to a ceasefire, then why am I woken up at 4:30 am with the sound of artillery firing near my house?
  14. The thai roads aren't safe enough with right-hand drive vehicles and you want to introduce left-hand vehicles in the mix???
  15. or driver's Ed...like other countries do... Naahhh, much to simple.
  16. If you are exchanging US dollars or Euros, sure. Almost cheaper than Thailand. It's something that Thailand does forget. Much more tourists are attracted to places that are cheaper and offers more.
  17. The "survey", for lack of a better word, does not mention anything about foreigners. No reason to feel anything about this since it doesn't concern us. Unless you are Thai... I only made fun of the story as, again, it doesn't involve us foreigners.
  18. Can't wait for the thai women survey. This just in; thai women prefer thai men to be min. 180cm, min. 100,000฿ per month, mercedes or bmw car, fair skin, non smoking, doesn't drink, doesn't gamble, takes care of children ( free babysitting)...
  19. If it does happen, Thailand will finally be able to boast that there is 22 good drivers on thai roads. Only there for a few days a year but let's not get bogged down by details.
  20. I had to check my calendar to see if today is April 1st. Who wouldn't after reading this.
