  1. Hey! Here's a novel approach to your "problem", invest in education, technology and infrastructure so you can stop relying on tourism. But no, the bubble has poped and the tourist that you heavely rely on have left the sinking boat and you cling to this idea that if you create a "war room" you will discover the magical thing that will bring back tourists. Let me get a tissue so that I can wipe my palm before smaking it on my forehead.
  2. Having not seen said video, did she perhaps say how she will highlight cultural awarness? Will she use English or Chinese or Russian or French or... Maybe she will use international sign language... I know a few of those but I am told these are questionable.
  3. Can I get my wife on that list???
  4. Eliminate the 1000 and 500 bills, sure, no problems. Most high rolling criminals deal with bitcoins anyways. It won't affect them, only the local criminals or those that receives their tea money in a neat envelope. Who it would really piss off is all the tourists who don't have a Thai bank account. Unless the have a plan to let tourists use their own countries debit card in stores, restaurents, hotels, etc. Most likely be the end of small tourist dependent operators.
  5. Most simplest answer, the temples can be declared as UNESCO Heritage Sites and as such, UNESCO will give some money earmarked as "reconstruction and upkeep" funds. That's for the temple areas. As for the casinos/scam centers...that's illegal money conveniently cleaned by the casinos going into various corrupt officials and some nasty Chinese triad protected by the CCP.
  6. Stop blaming the French. That chestnut has been roasted to death already. Fact 1.: France drew the first border in 1863 Fact 2.: Final refinement of the border in 1907 Fact 3.: France left Indochina in 1954 That's nearly 50 years of time to bring up the matter to the french admin while they still had an office in the country. Why did Cambodia not say anyting during the first draft? Why not say anyting during the final refinement? Plenty of time to say something between the final refinement in 1907 and the french leaving in 1954. It's like trying to sue your house painter 25 years after the job is completed and throwing eggs at his truck when he laughs at your face.
  7. After a fairly quiet Saturday, got woken up bright and early today with artilery fire next door to us in Phanom Dong Rak. I wish these talks will lead to another ceasefire but I'm not holding my breath. They may agree to a ceasefire but what garantees does Thailand have that Cambo will not start to plant landmines again...
  8. A few things I miss from living in Europe (or Canada in my childhood) is certain food in abundance and cheap, certain drinks and the long summer nights. Don't miss the short winter days or the cold that comes with it.
  9. Evacuation orders have been given but many cannot leave as they have to take care of livestock and get their fields ready for the next rice planting season. For some, it is their only means of revenue. Most children and old people have gone to shelters or families living further away from the front line. Besides, Phanom Dong Rak is a pretty big sub-district.
  10. I see that he is no longer "former" president Trump. Guess someone woke him up from his afternoon nap in the oval office. https://aseannow.com/topic/1381561-thai-pm-anutin-prioritizes-national-interests-in-trump-call/
  11. Update from Phanom Dong Rak, heavy artillery from both sides this morning. Started at 05:30...again. I just love waking up with a bang.
  12. I just saw a troop trasnport and a mil ambulance pass by just now with 1 thai canon firing half an hour ago. Maybe it's just lunch time for both sides.
  13. About a quarter of the folks in my village remained behind to take care of their cattles, such as my wife and I. Last evening was the first time I could see the shells tracing through the darken skies and the occasional diffused flash of impact. Reminded me of my time in the military. Kind of surreal to see normal people going about their daily lifes while hear the artilery firing nearby. If I may, my take on all this is that considering that Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia were part of the French Indochina, only Cambo seems to complain about their border. I think that is because they really want to get their hands on all the temples. By claiming full ownership of these temples and registering them with UNESCO, this will grant them access to funds to be used for restorations. But I can give you three guesses as to where that money will go and the first two guesses don't count. IMHO
  14. Can confirm here in Phanom Dong Rak that as of 05:35 this morning, there is no ceasefire. Just got woken up by the sounds of artillery firing.
  15. I was thinking more along the lines of "wishful thinking".
  16. Former? Did something happened that we were not made aware of or is it just a mistake by the writer?
  17. Consumables (wires and gas) are easy to find as they use the standard MIG wires (non-flux) and Argon gas for welding or compressed air for cutting. Wire reel can be bought at any stores that sells MIG welders. Or, as I did, buy it on Lazada for a cheaper price. As for the lenses, I imagine that since these are Chinese products, a quick search on Lazada or Temu or Alibaba should be enough to get them at a good price. If you are only going to weld 3 or 4 things a year, better to go to a welding shop. A good laser welder will cost you more then 150k baht initially. That's a pretty expensive toy if it sits in a corner all year long without being used...
  18. Considering the war has been going on for more than two years, I'm surprised this hasn't happened earlier given the country's "neutrality" and the acceptance of Russian nationals to enter Thailand.
  19. Government waisting good money on a farce campaign. Might as well use that money to warn people about lightning strikes or so called "safe" thai sidewalk or going to see your fav at Soi 6, Pattaya or charging your phone near your bed or, heck, breathing... It's scaremongering at its simplest form over something trivial and easy to rectify if the government really wanted to.
  20. Greater chance of dying by being electrocuted by a faulty (insert appliance name here) or by walking the "sidewalk" or playing golf or... Better to allow e-cigarette and control them by government regulations instead of making them illegal and uncontrollable.
  21. Kind of them to add English as I doubt many Thais will pay them which leaves the rest of us to pay. Of course, all this is moot if they can't enforce the laws.
  22. Stores are closed. Will have to wait until tomorrow to go to Prasat.
  23. Sorry to hear that it's still going on. My side of Phanom Dong Rak is pretty quiet. All the 155 and mortars have pulled out already. The only military vehicles I've seen are transport, small and medium size. A few of the small stores have opened up again. Will check out the Bakdai village to see if the 7/11 and CJ mart are open.
