  1. As a big bike owner, having completed all of my training & tests in the UK, I would have no problem with having to upgrade my bike license.

Personally, I feel that the scooter & other low powered bike riders are the real risk on the roads. They have enough power to get into many edgy spots, but lack the power to get out.

As Happy Grumpy said, they should allow big bikes on the tollways, as most other countries allow big bikes on tollways/motorways etc.

Thai law currently allows people over the age of 15 to ride bikes up to 110cc on a “temporary” licence

If they REALLY want to make the roads safer, they should abolish this rule, as these riders are no doubt the least experienced, more aggressive and high risk group.

  2. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Premier and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan implied yesterday that martial law would need to be retained following the incident

Who does this attack stand to benefit? Were that thinking that their case for keeping martial law wasn't strong enough?

We can't say for now who is behind this. It could be people who have bad intentions...

How very astute of him. Someone give this man a medal, and a Sherlock Holmes pipe.

No one killed, only 2 injured, and no damage. If the bombers really wanted to make a statement, they would have made sure this was detonated in a public area.

This reeks of a controlled event, which only gives the junta more backing for holding onto power.

Your defense is that red shirt bombers are both intelligent and competent? History proves this to be nonsense.

True... I agree that if this was a red shirt attack, it could have equally been botched, but I don't believe the red shirts have as much to gain as the junta do.

I also think, had it been a red shirt attack, a more political target would have been picked.. i.e. a government office or building.

  4. the Public Health Minister, to come out and say that the proposal was just an idea to tackle the number of traffic fatalities as a result of drunk-driving

Does the Public Health Minister REALLY believe that stopping the sale of alcohol will stop people drinking and driving? If he does, he is completely naive.

Only the supermarkets, and some pubs/clubs would listen to this, if it was decided to go ahead. 95% of the other places would still serve, including all of the local mom + pop's shops.. they already sell ANY time of the day, and ANY day.

How about increasing the punishment for drunk drivers, and then getting the punishments enforced?... Oh yeah.. the RTP are completely corrupt, so they would prefer to fine the driver themselves and keep the money.

Nothing much will change in this country until the RTP are cleaned up, and accountability exists, which, at the rate they are currently going, will be somewhere around 2214.

    Good luck!

  5. Ok.. so in the coming days / weeks / months we should be seeing hundreds of arrests of high ranking officers, and thousands of arrests of lower ranking officers...

    Or...

Is what he is saying code for "We're having a corrupt policeman amnesty, but will be making examples of a few corrupt officers to prove to the world that we are doing something"

Obviously, this is his plan, as he hasn't even mentioned actions / punishments / intentions for the other 99.9% of corrupt officers.

If we don't see the arrests, we'll have the answer!

  6. Love the value that (some/all/most) Thai's put on a human life, i.e. zero.

This is such an ignorant and retarded comment..

Ok.. 'some' I can agree with.. but is this not the same in EVERY country?

'All/Most' - No, you're way off the mark here... You've made a massively incorrect generalisation, which I'm sure the majority of Thai's would find insulting, as would many non-Thai people (including me) who understand Thai culture.

The majority of Thai's respect human life as it's against their Buddhist precepts to kill anything. None of my Thai friends, or Thai people I know over here think anything like this... My girlfriend wont even kill a mosquito, as she believes it's a sin.

Clearly you don't know many Thai's, or maybe you just hang around with the minority who think in the same 'tiny-mind' way as you do..

  7. This is a step in the right direction but I struggle to see the UK Police being given the necessary freedom to independently asses the evidence or to be able to ask serious questions to certain influential Thai's.

I fully expect the Thai authorities to try and do everything in their power to sandbag the investigation and deny any requests which may jeopardise their so far "perfect" investigation.

    I suppose time will tell.

  8. National Police chief General Somyot Poompanmoung reiterated that the investigation had been carried out in a transparent manner, saying that the scapegoat era that saw innocent people charged with crimes may have existed in the past but not under his command...

Come on.. let's not beat around the bush here... It 100% did exist

And I also call BS on his statement that it's not currently going on under his command.

The world is watching, and despite their best efforts to protect tourism / face, the RTP, PM & Government are losing incredible amounts of face internationally, due to the unprofessional investigation and incompetence shown by ALL involved.

Actions speak louder than words, and so far we've seen little action, and too many words.

  9. Thawatchai said that martial law is beneficial to tourism, because it ensures that foreign tourists can be safe 24 hours a day.

Ohhhh <deleted>.. here they go again.. "foreign tourists can be safe" - In light of whats been going on recently.. ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THIS... REALLY?

I wonder if we'll EVER be able to go a week without some stupidity leaking out of a government agency, politician, policeman etc.

I thought Thailand was AGAINST losing face, but it seems, from ridiculous ideas like this (and the countless others) that they actually ENJOY losing face.

If I didn't know better, I would have thought that these plonkers have some kind of bet going - who can come up with the most stupid idea.. winner gets a Benz.
