  1. Myself and my wife are in the process of buying a new toyota pickup truck. Initially they quoted me a price for 6.990 baht to install a front only camera on the truck. After talking to a knowledgeable individual I realized the price was exhorbitant and cancelled the installation of the new camera by the dealership. We went to a business establishment and they will install a front and rear camera for 3000 or 3500 baht depending on which one we choose. My question is should I just plug the camera into the cigarette lighter or have them wire the camera to my truck? I am obviously not very knowledgeable about this but just want to make sure I don't encounter any problems with the installation of the front and rear camera on my truck. Thanks for any advice.

  2. My limited understanding is the US Gov't can confiscate funds in excess of 250.000 usd on deposit by depositors in a crisis situation based on a law that was passed which addressed ball-ins by financial institutions. What has me a little concerned is I was reading an article recently which stated that funds in excess of 100.000 usd on deposit in a financial institution in the US can be confiscated in a crisis. Is anyone familiar with the current threshold amount and is anyone concerned at all about the possibility of something like his coming to fruition? I guess if one had their money in stocks they would be outside the long arm of the law. In these crazy  and uncertain  times it is best to try and position oneself for any possible situation, however remote it might be, so I am interested in hearing about other folks strategies or investment choices especially in these trying times.

  3. I am hoping to buy a GPS with English language for my travels around Thailand. I also might have to buy another GPS in Thai language when my wife drives. I am hoping to avoid using the GPS on the smart phone and much prefer the one you attach to your front window or dashboard and it tells you when to make a turn etc. Ideally, although highly unlikely that there is a GPS with BOTH English and thai language. If anyone knows where I can purchase a GPS with English I would be very appreciative.  Cheers,  John

  4. I cancelled a flight out of Chiang Mai to New York City on Qatar Airlines which was scheduled to depart on April 1, 2020. I cancelled my flight on March 15 and was told by my consolidator that I would get a 200 usd  refund within 30 days. I called after 30 days to inquire about my refund and was told it would take 2-3 months. I called after 3 months and was told by the consolidator that Qatar is very busy and they have many folks in the same situation as myself and it would take time to get my refund. I am still waiting and forget contacting Qatar Airlines because, even if you can manage to get through to speak to someone, they will say you have to contact the consolidator you purchased the ticket from. I checked my flights on the day I was originally due to fly back to the US and the  flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok was cancelled as well as the flight from Doha Qatar to New York. I don't have much faith in Qatar refunding me the amount that was stated to me back on March 15, 2020 and will be very surprised if Qatar follows through and contacts the consolidator where I purchased my ticket originally to initiate the refund to me.

  5. Can I drive   a car or truck in Thailand legally without a thai driving license? I have a driving license for the US and I would get an international driving permit, so with my license from the US plus an international driving permit would I then be legally able to drive in Thailand? If so does any one know the best place to obtain an international driving permit for Thailand?

  6. My wife has a wood bungalow built out of wood and  one of the beams under the bungalow has been basically eaten away from i guess termites. They have worked their way up to the wood floor and were just starting to go after the wood bed. She brought some stuff which is supposed to kill them and has sprayed it all over where their are signs of infestation. A builder is going to be coming to replace the wood beam and small section of flooring that has been eaten by these bugs, She is also in the process of buying something online which you are supposed to apply to the affected areas and if their are are any bugs there they eat or bring the spray residue back to the other bugs and it is supposed to kill them. I am wondering if there is anything you can apply to the wood to prevent these bugs from being able to penetrate the wood and start to eat it. My wiife said she is also buying something which you are supposed to spread around under the bungalows which repels these bugs from trying to eat the wood. If anyone has any info or experience dealing with this situation and any ideas to combat this problem I would be appreciative of any advice on how best to proceed.  Thank you

  7. Can someone rent a car say in Isaan  (Buriram) and drive it to Chiang Mai and drop it off there? I tried emailing expat auto in Buriram awhile ago to inquired about this but no one ever got back to me. I would like to eventually drive back to Chiang Mai for Isaan instead of taking a bus. Any info would be appreciated.

  8. I was there from March2 to March 5 and it was great. It was fairly busy but, with all the hotels that have evidently opened up to capitalize on the chinese market, some are hurting and I hearda few have actually closed due to not enough business. When I was there it was primarily westerners and almost no one was wearing a mask. We took a speedboat tour to phi phi and 4 islands and there were a lot of speedboats with tourists doing the same thing. We went to Railay which was beautiful and it was very crowded with tourists but you could still enjoy yourself. The air was fresh, the water was very clean and Ao Nang and the surrounding area left me and my wife with great memories.

  9. I have a capital one credit card which occasionally gets  declined when trying to use it on the few occasions I use it during the year> Unfortunately I don't have a smart phone so I can't get a text message from capital one asking me to input a number code they have sent me to verify my identity. On a recent attempt to use my credit card about a month or so ago Capital One declined my card and I had to get money from the bank. Upon returning to my apt I checked my computer and Capital One had sent me an email asking me to verify the transaction that they had declined. I have a flip phone but with a thai phone number so capital one can not send a text message to my flip phone. Short of bringing my laptop with me are their any other ways to use my capital one credit card in the event I get declined by capital one when trying to use my card?

  10. I am planning on renting a car and was wondering if the collision waiver damage  (cwd) in thailand is like in the US. In the US when you rent a car and take out the cwd, if you have an accident or there is damage to your rental car you are covered and there is no out of pocket expenses to worry about. Is it the same in Thailand when renting a car here? Thanks for any info.
