The Miracle Season seems to be starting in Ao Nang/Krabi today.

Any idea what it is?

Just a made up marketing name or is there some substance behind it?

In the spirit of the miracle season can we expect Indian tailors to ignore us or maybe find a parking space in Ao Nang?

Or is it the big one with JC coming for a quick visit??

It will be great news when the hospital opens but it makes me wonder where the "unrivaled accommodation and world-class facilities" in Krabi are?

Hi I did all as your self here, but think later on you will do better to get him registered for a UK birth certificate in Bangkok and have it recorded in UK to. Its not too difficult Just the Child's Thai birth certificate( translation needed), Your UK birth certificate (original) . It will save you a lot of grief later as to N H, NI and many other things, go for it.

I have just returned from a trip to UK with my son and I can confirm what 7by7 posted: it is unnecessary for the things you mention (if N H means NHS ......)

Slightly off topic, but is Bangkok the only place to get the TB certificate or can it be done in other cities?

If you are applying 3 months before you go make sure they dont start the visa on the date you apply or you will lose 3 months.

No problem whatsoever assuming you send off all the stuff the form requires, I did it for my son last year.

Also got his Thai passport which was very efficiently done.

Obvioulsy he couldnt sign his name so the Thai passport office wanted him to 'sign' with his thumb print.

But we didnt want him then to suck off all the ink so they took his big toe print on the application form and this shows up as a completely useless smudge on his passport.........

Great stuff.

In case you are interested, he used both passports on a recent trip to the UK.

Just to clarify:

To attain an A1 level of English the following scores are required from a TOEIC examination:

Listening - 60

Speaking - 50

On my wife's official score report it doesnt say where she took the test.

Is the official score report enough or will something stating where the test was taken be required when applying for a visa?

The way I understood what the Embassy can do was pretty much how 7by7 described it.

How would you go about getting it legalized and what does the Embassy actually need and/or do?

Just to clarify, my wife is Thai and the marriage is registered at the Amphur.

You apply with the documents I stated and for you an English or German marriage certificate, Thai one is no good.

I need my Thai marriage certificate translated because I am applying in the UK rather than Thailand, right?

No visa fee, just fee for administration, most of the documents are not required, i.e flight tickets, hotel bookings.

Is this right:

Under this directive I could apply straight to the Embassy with an email similar to yours.

Then the Embassy would/should have to deal with it directly thus cutting out VFS and the fees.

I wouldn't need to show a translated marriage certificate or have a translation certified.

Also no need for flights, hotel bookings etc as you mentioned above.

Are you applying using the EU Directive about Freedom of Movement.

The plan is to apply next year in UK through VFS the German Embassy outsource partner.

But I want to get any necessary documents translated and certified over here in Thailand before we go to UK.

How would I do it and how is it different using the EU Directive about Freedom of Movement?

I will try to find out if they need the translation in German too.

Would much rather my child to be born and raised in australia... no offense or anything, but i know thai hospitals are good and all.. but the quality of life is way differnt in my side of town to Bangkok...

Where the child is born won't make any difference to it's rights or upbringing.

I wouldn't use the public hospitals but private Thai hospitals are first class.

I am starting to look at getting a Schengen visa for my wife to visit Germany, from UK, with me next year.

I am a British citizen and we married in Thailand.

We are currently in Thailand but will go to UK next year.

At some point we will have to go to Germany.

If possible, we would like to get the marriage certificate requirements sorted out in Thailand as my wife has heard that the Embassy in London can't/won't do any certification.

Does anyone know:

Does the original marriage certificate need to be certified/notarised/stamped by the Thai Government/Foreign Office?

If so, would the Thai Embassy do this in London?

Will an English translation of our marriage certificate do or does she need a German translation as well?

Additionally, does either translation need to have any official approval/certification other than being done by a recognised and approved translator?

And again if so, would the Thai Embassy do this in London?

Since moving to England and marrying me an EU National, my wife has applied to the German Embassy twice to obtain Schengen Visas, both time we have submitted the list below.

This time, I did however include our flight itinerary as last time we never went to Germany and I didn't want them to get narky with us. (as a friend of mine had a snotty letter attached stating that they must travel to German if they obtained a German Schengen and if they didn't they might not get another)

I did this earlier this year and these are my answers to your questions from my experience (sorry, some aren't helpful):

1. I live in Thailand, although we will be staying at my mums house during our trip. I have a note from mum, with a copy of her passport. Now when filling out the family visit application form online, I am not presented with an option to click she'll be staying with her "mother-in-law". Should we change visa type, or just add myself (I am sponsoring my wife on this trip)?I made it clear in the sponsors letter I wrote where we would be staying. No need to change visa type for this.

2. I'm only able to obtain copies of my apartment contract here in Thailand, rather than the originals. Will this cause a problem? Sorry, I don't know

3. Do we need to translate our Thai marriage certificate into English?

Yes, as far as I know

4. My wife owns some land. Is it advisable to translate the land ownership document into English? My wife didn't translate her document.

5. Should my wife include her birth certificate, and if so, should we get this translated? My wife didn't include hers.

Haven't been for a year or two but it never used to be a problem in KL if you just want a single entry tourist visa.

I don't know where this thread ended up with regards to visas, and just in case anyone still needs to know, you definitely need a marriage certificate for Hull, Birmingham and London.

Is this the maximum stay allowed for short-term family visitors to the UK?

I found this on the UKBA website but it is referring to long-term visit visas: "you can only stay in the UK for a maximum of 180 days during any 12-month period"

So, if the GF leaves UK on August 15th 2012 at the end of her 6 month visa and 6 month visit she would be able to apply to arrive again in UK on February 15th (or whatever 180 days is precisely after 15/8) 2013 and stay again for 6 months?

This isn't actually our plan, just trying to work out a 'from when' date.

Sorry to bump my thread but Beano mentioned I should provide evidence that my Mother's boyfriend's house where we'll be staying has sufficient space to accommodate us when we visit - I couldn't find anything on the home office site to what kind of evidence I can provide. Photos or something else?

I would always suggest providing as much information as possible.

However, for my GF's successful application we simply included a letter from mum inviting us to stay, saying there was plenty of room and describing the house (numbers of rooms etc).

No proof of ownership, ID or anything else.

In fact, it wasn't even the original letter but a print out from an email as the original letter never arrived in Thailand.
