  1. What is it with American-speak, everything

    either "sucks" or is "awesome."

Pretty narrow-minded viewpoint. So , all ages , educational levels and virtually every American demographic uses "American-speak ? I get as annoyed as anyone at the lack of originality people use in conversing or writing in the US. But, I will say , if I had a dollar for every time I have heard 'awesome' , I'd be on a beach-front property in some exotic locale.

  2. Just go to Tony or May massage in Sukhumvit 23.

    Cheap and good.

    Or Footjoy in Soi 8.

Watch out at May Massage , the male masseurs assume any client is gay and wants some action.

Complete BS ... may have happened to you.

'Any client' maybe means you the client.

I've had maybe 20 foot massages (that is what the OP is asking about) at May's and never had my 'junk' grabbed.

And I am very much the hunsum man ... even the Indian Tailors tell me this ... must be true ... rolleyes.gif

    .

<deleted>...to accidentally get your 'junk' grabbed during a foot massage you need to be a pretty well hung fellow, dont you say?

Absolutely. Like a Budweiser Clydesdale. Well, maybe more like a small circus pony. Hmmm, would you settle for hung like a tarsier, the world's smallest primate ?

In alot of foot massages , they do a brief stretch up the thighs at the end. If I had a Mr Johnson that extended down to my foot , I would be pretty well-known , I would think. w00t.gif

  3. If you live like myself upcountry it can be difficult to find friends, acquaintances can be easier to come by but friends are different,I've been here 4 years although not full time due to work commitments and in that time I have found 1 real good friend.

Also I'm considerably younger than the majority of expats up here in Phetchabun and that makes it harder.

It can be a lonely place for some often turning to drink and in some cases drugs.

I'm surprised by the number of expats who live up here but often speak very little Thai after many years,in some cases their native tongue is German or French and they speak very little English as well, this must make life a struggle at times, especially in the marital home where by neither partner speaks much of each other's respective languages.

Combine al this with a lack of western foods, bars or restaurants as well as very little in the way of facilities such as swimming pools,it all makes for a recipe for disaster.

Many people live reclusive lives surrounded by people they grow to detest, can't communicate with and to top it all they've invested everything they have in building the dream home.

Seeking and finding friends up here can often uncover some very miserable people with very miserable lives.

    Sad but true.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Very interesting. I've always suspected living in Thailand would be much the way you've described it. It's why I am not likely to make the move , although I am already retired. Been to LOS many , many times but I'm always aware of the downsides as I observe everything around me. And , as easygoing as I am ( and a non-drinker ) I have felt some very bad vibes from time to time from the xenophobes.

  4. Follow healthy guidelines in diet and activity and you should be fine.

Find out in advance if people in any potential Condo purchase had been dropping like flies upon inhabiting said property.

Me ? I live dangerously and follow my gut instinct with decisions in life , big or small.

  5. Starbucks need to get over themselves and extract their head from their collective corporate arse.

The only humorous thing Starbucks is hearing Americans rave on about how good the coffee is. Most of the world wouldn't even degrease their car engines with the stuff.

And why are they are so popular then? I don't see any Australian businesses doing as well, do you?

I agree mochefan. I guess the overwhelming success of an American corporation is a big joke. Also, I have barely ever been inside a Starbucks anyway and they're on every block here in America. Just don't care for coffee much. All of a sudden we all RAVE about Starbucks? Hardly. Guess I'll refrain from any stereotypes about the nationality of the OP.

  6. They are in Chiang Mai in huge numbers. The one aspect I dislike most about that is that they are very incompetent riding motorbikes and pose a daily menace to me in that way. They stop in intersections to open and look at maps. They unexpectedly u-turn on one way streets, and in general drive like clueless rubes. A tourist policeman I know tells me that Chinese tourists involved in accidents on motorbikes is a daily occurrence and out of hand. I think we are on the leading edge of a total Chinese invasion over the coming 10 years. They are already buying businesses and land etc in CM and jumping in with both feet. They will not be as easy to fleece as the farang that came before them.................

Interesting and sad that falangs are noted for being easy to fleece , but I think you are right about this. The Chinese are a much more difficult mark , as it is inherent in their DNA to come out financially on top in all business dealings , not matter the origin. Look at how much US debt they hold. Having been in high-tech procurement for most of my working years , I can tell you that the Chinese are the least likely to negotiate a 50-50 deal. They want to come out ahead and will blatantly manipulate the business activity to accomplish this. Not my opinion or not based on a racist mentality , it has simply been my business experience with them.

I wouldn't quite equate Greenspan and bernanke turning on the printing presses to inflate the us economy with a Chinese tourist haggling over a jet ski hire.

By the way. Who holds the majority of USD debt as a whole, not as single individual entireties?

USA based institutions such as social security and pension fund. Yes the Chinese and the Japanese hold a lot, but of course, Americans hold a lot too.

I think you are right , I stand corrected. One can hardly make the comparison in those terms. I think I may have been implying that the Chinese , as a general rule , look to maximize their business potential for profit , wherever and whenever possible.

This is true of many races and cultures , but I do need to separate the US-China debt relationship from the tourist situation. I completely agree with that. I have many Chinese friends and I am not inciting racism in my observations. I live in the Bay Area of the US , so I have seen a HUGE influx of Chinese over the years and they own and invest heavily in real estate here and control a great deal of wealth in that regard. As far as my doing business with them, I was particularly keyed in on the material purchases to ensure an equitable arrangement , they are very good at negotiating well on their own behalf. Not that there's anything wrong with that , but I was responsible for achieving financial objectives and I had to work harder at this , in some cases, with my Chinese cohorts.

  8. The Chinese are considered the rudest among international tourists. Not a racist opinion , it is a fact and surveys and studies confirm it.

They may have money , but the hospitality trades are to be forewarned of some of the behavior.

Any Thais I've asked have told me that they do not care for the tourists from mainland China. It seems to be that it's ok (tolerable) if someone from the west acts out, but it's inexcusable for another Asian to come to Thailand and act like they are God.

Well, that may be due to how tight they are with money and how little they tip in establishments that expect it ( hotels , restaurants , bars ) as compared to , say US , Canadian or European tourists.

Again, not an intentional racist statement and I would not be able to independently confirm or deny, not being employed in hospitality. However , this is the general word on the street.

I believe the Thais can put up with some obnoxious behavior from falangs and such , if they are , at least , compensated somewhat. Alot of it has to do with age and station in life. There are many "cheap charlie" falangs , mostly younger and less well-to-do. Not my opinion , these are generally considered factual demographic trends and it is understandable to me if Thais wanted to tell obnoxious tourists of any stripe to go pound sand.

Treat a Thai with respect and it is 100% possible you will be treated with respect in return. Treat them badly , in their own country , and you may regret having done so , as revenge is sometimes a dish best served cold.

  9. I cant imagine how anyone can live here for more than a week and not find Friendship supermarket.

    http://goo.gl/maps/XieBh

At the same time I cant imagine why anyone would willingly buy and eat the sausages that are used for hot dogs. What body parts they are probably made of is just too awful to contemplate.

Hey Kitten quit coming off so arrogant and condescending. Nobody likes that BS. Either give a straight answer of keep your trap quiet. Not everyone knows every square inch of Thailand and what's where. Why don't you go post on a health food forum if you disagree with someone wanting a hot dog.

Wasn't the Google Maps link with a photo of the supermarket in question and a box for finding directions to it from anywhere in Thailand straight enough for you? Hard to see how I could have provided more or better information, short of offering to drive the bloke there in my car.

If one reads and answers messages in the Pattaya forum it seems reasonable to me to suppose that the people involved are indeed discussing Pattaya and not Nakorn Nowhere.

As for my comments about the health aspects of hotdogs; I'll say what I like. You dont have to read it and you dont have to agree. At no point did I suggest that people should stop eating them if they want to; it's entirely up to them.

You implied it, genius. I am 100% certain you have no friends anywhere on this planet. News for you : You're not the smartest guy in the room , just the most obnoxious. You need to get your attitude straightened out.

  10. Just go to Tony or May massage in Sukhumvit 23.

I've been to all 3. Tony is cheapest , used to be B99. Watch out at May Massage , the male masseurs assume any client is gay and wants some action. One grabbed my junk during a foot massage and I was not amused. Love Footjoy Soi 8. Very skilled masseuses. More of a classy outfit than most. Was B250 an hour for foot , not sure now, have not been to LOS for awhile.
