  1. The Only reason for this upturn is they included Gold exports. Seriously, they think people can't see through that smoke screen? Excluding that from the equation and once again exports have taken another hit due to the Bank Of Thailand ignoring all the warning signs, the pleas from numerous areas of Thai business to reign in the Baht. But Oh No that would put a damper on the Mega rich who control every aspect of the economy and use the Baht as their personal investment strategy

  2. A huge place that has very few Falang customers which is a shame as the beer is excellent but IMO the food is mediocre at best. During the week nights the place is basically deserted but on the weekend it livens up albeit with mostly Thais. Their location is also an issue as without GPS you can get lost as it's way in the back of the Chiang Mai Business Park.

  3. Of course it's going to hurt not only Western tourists, long term Expats but more important the vast majority of Thai people. Does the Bank of Thailand care one iota?? Yeah when pigs fly. Calls from all sectors of the Thai economy to reign in the artificial strength of the Baht have fallen on deaf ears and will continue to do so until this house of cards comes crumbling down at their feet.

  4. Death is going to come to all, it's the ultimate equalizer. My thoughts are easy, I try to prolong my life, my quality of that life by my choices in food, life style and where I live. I ain't gonna go to the grave or oven meekly, they will have to drag my sorry arse kicking and screaming. If I can make if to the point where death is inevitable I want to go back to Ireland and pass there. Until then, look out Thailand cause I'm here to party and kick up my feet.

  5. Dr. Virchiraporn at Chiang Mai Ram is the BEST, she speaks perfect English as she did her residency at Boston General and aside from that fact she knows her stuff. I have been seeing only her for my continual skin issues and just this morning she gave me a clean bill of health for the two surgeries she did on my chest last week. I get a full body examination from her three times a year and at that time she freezes some spots, scrapes some or does a surgery. If I see something suspicious IMO I simply go to the Skin Clinic, request an appointment and never have to wait more a few days. Dr. Amy as she like to be called is head and shoulders above the other Dermatologists in Chiang Mai, IMO.

  6. Never have reported an out of province journey, never have presented my passport when checking in at a hotel use only my drivers license and never had a problem Thai Immigration. I will not comply with a law than on its face is a joke, let them fine me that 1600 Baht if they even catch my law breaking escapades.

  7. And the beat goes on as Sonny and Cher used to sing about. Consumer confidence going down the toilet every month, default on loans rising, export declining, rice crops ruined, tourism declining and of course the artificial strength of the almighty Baht have put Thailand right in the cross hairs of a major economic downturn. It's not a question of if anymore but when.

  8. As this most innane and useless topic continues to have legs I will add my own bit of stupidity.  As July 14 is Bastille Day and on the 15th France plays in the final of the World Cup I have started putting red, white and blue bunting on my beloved Xmax to celebrate these great occassions.  Viva La France.

  9. I would add that if you are going to ride a bicycle in Chiang Mai be it in the city or outside have at least enough common sense to wear a helmet, gloves.  Everyday I see these Western dipsh..its riding wearing only a singlet, shorts, filp flops and worst of all listening to music.  It's not a matter of it but when you are going to regret your stupidity.

  10. The Red Truck boys can piss and moan until the cows come home.  They can try their pressure tactics to individual  Grab drivers, they can drive en mass to their local Phu Yai the bottom line is it will have no effect.  When Thai people continue to use Grab these clowns are fighting a losing battle.  In a civilized country that cares about peoples health and the air quality the Red Trucks and their ar..se hole drivers would be consigned to the garbage dump.

  11. Places that have any type of buffet and are reasonably priced have become packed with Chinese tour groups or individual groups.  If you truly want to see how bad they are go eat at one of these places.  Pushing, shoving, piling their plates with all the seafood and all the time yelling at each other at the top of their lungs.  It's the same at breakfast.  One time was enough for me to avoid making the same mistake.  Thank God these eff...ing Chinese have not invaded Auf De Au.  The day they do is when I will go postal on a group of these tos...sers.

  12. With the loss of the Beer Republic this area lost all its appeal.  Now it's nothing but Chinese, Chinese, Chinese.  They are slowly but surely taking over the main tourist spots in Chiang Mai.  In another four or five years Chiang Mai will be nothing more than a suberb for mainland China.  So far I have been able to avoid their rudeness, their igorance and just bad manners.

  13. Easy to navigate, easy to book, great fares if you know the optimum time to book.  I booked already for a CDX-SFO in late February. No more transiting through Bangkok.  Saved myself a lot hassle and money.  Thanks EVA.
