  1. If cheap is your main concern by all means opt for Korea,China Eastern and a few others but be well aware you will face long layovers and may even have to overnight. Those so called travel shops that advertise low fares do so without adding in all the taxes and fees. The old bait and switch game at its finest. If you have the flexibility book your flight at least 80 days ahead and no more than 90 days you will find that that is the window when most of the airlines will reduce their international fares. Check out Eva Air and China Air fares on their own websites as they always seem to have the matching fares of Kayak, Expedia, Orbitz.

  2. Excuse me but you did Specify a car rental here in Surin, is that correct? You indicated that you have rented before from the FC but now because they told you that only 3 vehicles available for rent you want to look outside Surin. <deleted>!! Are you expecting an Avis or Hertz agency out in the boonies? Get real and either rent in Bangkok or suck it up and deal with those you have previously used. Just my two cents.

  3. Unfortunately the "best " place to get a decent meal with a lot of choices here in Surin has suffered a major drop with the closing of Starbeam Restauant. The FC is now nothing but a former shadow of itself. Redacted menu, higher prices and the same sub standard health issues. For those on a budget the choices have been limited to the Green Mango, Coffee Corner, the Green Terrace. Going up a bit on the price point you can't go wrong with Sydney Seasons or Lorenzino's. There are a few other options but IMO they aren't worth the bother.

  4. Heading up to C.M. next week for six days and I don't wish to intrude on the friends I am visiting. I am also considering trading in my 2012 Honda PCX150 here in Surin when I get back. I understand that a rental of the Honda Forza 300 is something I can do in Chiang Mai. Renting one of these will kill two birds with one stone as I can be free of imposing on my friends while at the same time test riding the Forza. So,my question where to rent, with whom, and daily rate. Thanks very much for helpful responses not those that want to be sarcastic.

  5. You are fighting a losing battle if you think that a Thai lady will change her mind about whitening her skin simply by showing her the dangers either by a video or an article even written in Thai. These skin products advertised on Thai television are garbage and since there appears to be no regulatory body to investigate the claims made it's open season on the stupidity of these women. Mind you there are skin products out there that will lighten the skin but they are very very expensive and are primarily made in Japan. For a cheaper and even healthier alternative may I suggest you encourage your lady friend to take a daily 500mg. Tablet of Gluthiatone. Gluthiatone is actually a dietary supplement that aids the liver functions but one of it's side effects is to lighten the skin of Asian women. Before I allowed my Thai wife to begin taking this pill I asked my Dermatologist if it would be safe and did it work. Yes, on both counts. You can purchase Gluthiatone at GNC shops throughout Thailand. Be sure she takes it alongside a Vitamin C pill as that combination seems to produce quicker and more noticeable results.

  6. Through trial and error I also learned how to "game" Air Asia and have been very happy with the results. It does take time and patience but in the end you do come out ahead. Even when circumstances prevent me from taking those flights I have booked well in advance I don't sweat the small amount it cost me as there was no way I would have been able to get that low of a fare from another airline. In a few cases, for instance, Air Asia have cancelled my flight after I have already determined that I would not be able to fly regardless and I have been given a full refund. Air Asia may not be every bodies cup of tea but my own experiences have been nothing but positive.

  7. Is it a stabbing/burning type of pain that seems to go away when you are standing and moving about? Does the pain radiate outward from neck, across your shoulder and down your arm? I suffered this type of nerve/muscle injury on two occasions due to my incorrectly form when doing military presses with free weights. I had injured some muscle tissue and as it became more inflamed it contracted around the nerve bundle that radiates from your upper spine/neck area outward. Almost impossible to sleep at night despite the use of Ambien and muscle relaxers. The pain did subside eventually as I followed the Doctors orders and took the necessary inflammatory medicines. I too thought at first I had done some serious nerve damage but all tests proved negative. As for a hospital recommendation in Bangkok my go to choice for the past three years is Saint Louis Hospital. Great service, great staff and a price that won't break the bank.

  8. A real pity as Starbeam was head and shoulders above the rest of the other places in Surin that catered more to the Farang community. Not even a close call IMO between Starbeam and the FC. When you factor in the owners policy on smoking only outside it was the go to place for an afternoon of relaxation, conversation and libation. I can't see those other places picking up much of the trade from Starbeam given their track records.

  9. I set up a savings account for her separate from the household account. I told her if she does not touch the money and shows me that proof I will augment that savings account every month for two years. If she dips into the fund then no money for that month will be added. This account is her nest egg and it's up to her to manage it properly.

  10. I was all set to buy a New Superscooter but when I was on a holiday in the U.S. I stopped by a local Honda motorbike shop in San Francisco in early June and lo and behold there were two new CTX,S. one with the Manuel tranny and the other with Auto tranny. Gorgeous bike, IMO, and the price for the model of my choice was a reasonable $8990.00. I did some checking later and found out these are made in Thailand. I checked at a few of the bigger Honda shops here in Surin and Buriram but they are useless and had no clue what I was referring to. Even attempting to show them the model on a website got me nowhere. My question is this, is this new motorbike now in the showrooms either in Bangkok or Pattata and what is the price here in Thailand?

  11. I arrived back from a two month holiday in the U.S. and while there I had completely forgotten about the upcoming Manchester United match on the 13th of July. Up here in Surin I have been unable to get any feedback about buying a ticket at this late date. I imagine the match is sold out but is there a chance that some tickets are still available? Would it be worth the time and effort to show up at the Stadium and hope there are some "scalpers" plying their trade? I am P.O.ed at my own stupidity for forgetting the match in the first place.

  12. My wife really has her heart set on an Apple I-Phone 4. I am going to San Francisco at the end of March for a visit and can get a new phone there for only 12,000 Baht. The problem is my wife is not proficient enough in English to use this to it's fullest capabilities. We have been told that if we go to MBK, head up to the 4th floor there are shops there with people who can change the language to Thai on the phone, jailbreak and unlock the phone. Is this information correct or are they blowing smoke up my arse? She has told me that the prices here in Thailand are too expensive, a first I believe for a Thai wife or girlfriend and she does not want me to buy here one in Thailand. I want to surprsie her for her birthday so any information about this would be appreciated. Thanks very much.
